An accomplice

Book:Revenge On My Ex Husband Published:2024-11-19

After returning home from my dinner date with Nicholas, I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about the financial data and what Nicholas had told me to do. I mended to find more evidence about her really fast now that she’s not in the company.
If Amara had exploited the cooperation loopholes of Dyson’s corp to pocket money, it would definitely involve more than one person. From the cashier to the finance director, even my father himself.
I needed to carefully consider my next steps so I wouldn’t get caught in the web. With a furrowed brow, I pondered how to delve deeper into the family company’s internal affairs, especially those involving Amara’s secrets.
I knew that to avoid arousing my family’s attention especially dad’s, I needed to adopt more covert methods. First, I need to find out who’s working with Amara.
I was in the finance team for days and couldn’t find any evidence of her fraudulent activities but all of a sudden, one evidence appeared. Maybe I wasn’t careful enough. It is quite obvious someone’s helping her and I need to find out which it is so I can know who to trust.
Matilda, her right hand lady isn’t in the conpany anymore as she had been fired after that incident with Andrew so Amara would have hired someone else.
Who could it be?? Everyone in the finance department didn’t look suspicious to me and they all welcomed me into the department after my efforts to make the warm up to me. I doubt it’s one of them.
I was still trying to figure out who’s Amara’s accomplice when I suddenly recalled the worker that approached me that day. Jude Clayton was his name if I remember correctly.
On his ID card placed around his neck, it said he was a Manger in the finance team. That’s really weird because I didn’t see him once when I was at the finance team.
He must be a new worker but how did he get to be a manager so fast? Also, he’s the only one that had obvious malice against me so I’m sure he’s the one working with Amara.
I messaged my secretary, to send me Jude Clayton’s work profile. Within few minutes, she sent it to me. As expected, he was a new worker. He was transferred from one of our branch to work as a manager here.
It’s really suspicious that a mere worker from a branch would be appointed to work as a manager in the company’s headquarters and not the other way round. It’s obvious someone helped him here.
For now, I don’t have tangible evidence about his crime so I have to find one, but how? It’s not like I can walk up to him and ask if he’s working with a fraud and stealing money from the company.
I need something that would help me catch him in the act and a small bug can do the work for me. I searched online and eventually found the right bug for the job.
Overlooking the hefty fee, I paid for the bug without hesitation as I needed it urgently and then I completed the order. I knew time was of the essence, and I needed to grasp some key information quickly.
Soon, there was a soft knock on the door. I answered softly and Fiona came in with a small parcel in her hand.
“A package came in for you.” She announced as she gave it to me. I muttered a small ‘thank you’ and I signaled her to leave before proceeding to unwrap my package.
As expected, it was the invincible bug I had just ordered. It was designed so meticulously that it was small enough to be hidden anywhere. I took out the manual and read every detail carefully to ensure I could operate the device proficiently.
?The next day
After purchasing the bug last night, I was finally able to have a good night sleep. When I woke up, it was already 6am in the morning. I did my usual morning ritual and put on my working outfit.
After that, I arranged my suitcase and carefully placed the bug in it before leaving my room. At the dinning, I saw dad seated there and enjoying his breakfast so I joined him.
We talked a little about unimportant stuffs and about the company. I had the urge to tell him about my findings but was quick enough to suppress it. I need to take it slow.
After eating, I tidied up myself and bid dad goodbye before leaving. At the company, I set to work. I went straight to the financial department. When I got there, I was greeted by all of the workers there.
When I was asked about the reason I was there, I lied that I wanted to see their manager Jude Clayton. They directed me to the team he was in charge of and I was showed his office.
Luckily, he wasn’t there yet so I took that as my chance to do what I had planned to do. I was about to open my suitcase and bring out the bug when the door to the office was suddenly opened from the outside revealing Jude.
“Mrs. Ellison.. what are you doing here??” He asked with a surprised and confused gaze. I almost rolled my eyes when he asked that question. He still won’t stop calling me Mrs. Ellison.
“Good day to you too Mr. Clayton.” I greeted as I faked a smile on my face. He smiled back and entered into the office.
“You don’t need to smile if you’re not comfortable in doing so. I’ll still attend to you either way. Afterall, you’re the most hardworking person in this company.” He muttered, mokery laced in his tone.
“Okay.. what’s your problem with me?” I couldn’t help but ask, seeing the way he has been really hostile with me.
“Me?? I don’t have a problem. Why would I have a problem with the Chairman’s daughter?” He asked.
“Seems to me like you do. Just say what it is!!”
“Even if I tell you? What would change?” He asked.
“Nothing, afterall my family owns this conglomerate so I as the heir would never have any problem with a mere worker like you.” I said in order to spite him and it worked.
The smile that was plastered on his face had completely disappeared. “Wow.. you really think us mere workers are below you right?” He asked, unable to hide his anger.
“I didn’t say anything like that.” I muttered innocently.
“But that’s what you meant. You asked what my problem is with you? This is it. You act like you’re innocent, like you’re hardworking and perfect but in reality, you’re just like the rest of them.”
I folded my arms underneath my boobs and leaned closer to him. “Really? How so?”
“You do nothing but enjoy the work of we mere workers. Your wealth increase daily but we only have to live on our little paychecks that can’t even help us live a decent life.”
“If you’re not okay with what you’re receiving here, why don’t you go work in a place that will help you live that decent life that you so wish for?” I asked.
“You think it’s easy to get a job out there? Well, I can’t blame you for thinking that way. Afterall, the only reason you have this job is because of your father.” He muttered.
Wow… what a hypocrite. Like someone didn’t help him climb up the ladder to this place. He’s one of the people I laothe the most in life. A person full of pretense and also greedy. He reminds me of Amara and Andrew so much. No wonder Amara made him her accomplice.
“Now, if you would excuse me, I have a job to do.” He muttered in a dismissive tone and turned his back on me.
I took that as my chance and brought out the bug, placing it at a corner in his desk. At that moment, Jude called out my name, startling me. The bug nearly slipped from my hand.
