LATER THAT DAY
“What did you just say??” Dad screamed out angrily while Andrew could only shiver at his spot.
Dad had finally remembered to ask Andrew about the multi million dollar deal he was supposed to finalize and Andrew couldn’t stall any longer so he had to tell him the truth.
The air in the room was very tense as dad looked like he would explode any time soon. Andrew gave me me a signal to talk to him on hus behalf. I didn’t want to at first but then I recalled his medical test result.
The doctor said he was stressed and I should help to reduce it or it might cause an high blood pressure. Him bursting out at Andrew could affect his health amd I didn’t want that to hapoen so I walked up to dad and sat beside him.
“Dad please calm down. Just take a deep breath and let’s talk about this in a more civilized manner.” I said as I patted his back as a way to appease him and it was working. He was slowly calming down.
“But Cathy, haven’t I been calmed enough? This isn’t the first time he’s ruining my company and dragging my name.. our name in the mud..” He said, referring to us both and I noticed the embarrassed look on Andrew’s face.
“Dad, you can’t really blame him if the contractor doesn’t want to work with us any anymore.” I explained like I didn’t know what had really happened.
“Who else do I blame except him? All these happened because he wasn’t competent at all and he made us loose a multi million dollar deal. This is the first time this is ever happening to us.” Dad complained as the tone of his voice increased again.
“Dad just calm down. You know the doctor said you shouldn’t stress yourself. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to bring a deal that would pay more than this lost one to you.” I promised.
“I know you can unlike this incompetent fool.” Dad muttered as he eyed Andrew angrily. Andrew had no place to hide him from dad’s hateful gaze so he could only bow his head in fear to avoid dad’s eyes.
“But at this moment, I can’t afford to clean up after his mess anymore. He has already cost the company so much after the failed business trip so he has to stay at home for a while.” Andrew lifted his head in shock and fear when dad said that.
I felt my insides churn in excitement. “What do you mean by he has to stay at home?” I asked, I wanted to know if what he’s saying is what I was thinking.
“I meant that I don’t want to see him anywhere near the company for the time being. He’s exempted from all activities at the company and his salary would be withheld till further notice.” Dad answered and I nodded in understanding.
This is great news. I don’t have to be scared of running into him in the company anymore and he can’t even access anything there. Plus, his salary has been held back and that makes him penniless for now.
One down, one more to go.
“Please Catherine, can’t you just talk to him for me? Try to convince him and he might let me back into the company.” Andrew pleaded anxiously.
As expected, the only person he would run to at this moment for help was me and I was definitely not going to offer him any no matter how hard he pleads with me.
“Dad’s words has already been finalized, I can’t change his mind now.” I answered.
“You can. You’re the only one he listens to wholeheartedly.”
I sighed tiredly as he was beginning to stress; “Look Andrew, I wish I can help, really but there’s nothing I can do. Dad is really mad at the failed business trip so I can’t make him more angry than he already is by pleading for you. Do you want him to to ban you from the company forever?” I asked and he shook his head profusely.
“I thought so too so just wait it out. When he has calmed down, he will let you back into the company. Just don’t try to provoke him more.” I advised like I actually cared about what he was going through. I tried so hard to hide my happiness when I saw how helpless he looked.
The only thing he could do was nod his head in understanding as the realization that he had lost already, hit him really hard.
DYSON’S CORP
I sat with analyst recommended by Nicholas, discussing a new investment plan. My voice rang with confidence as I used my memories from my previous life to guide the team in investing in the AI industry and future blockbuster movies.
My firm tone and precise analysis impressed the analyst as he smiled occasionally in approval to my proposal. After the proposal, I returned back to my office where my assistant was waiting for me.
She informed me that the equipment for the business project we were having with the pharmaceutical hospital had arrived early and needed final budget calculations.
I stared at the files and meticulously calculated the equipment costs and budgets. I found one piece of equipment costs nearly ten million, making the treatment fee exorbitantly high.
I massaged my neck tiredly. The burden of the health care costs was too much. I was about to resume my calculations when my assistant gave me another file.
“What’s this?” I asked in confusion as I stared at the foreign information in the paper. It wasn’t linked to what we were doing.
“A worker in the finance team saw this a few days ago. I think you should take a good look at it.” She answered. I reviewed the file and my brows furrowed when I got to a very suspicious part.
I signalled my assistant to leave before I read it again. I noticed that every project that had been carried out in the company had a significant ‘service fee’ that was paid to one particular company.
It was the same papaer company that Amara was been laundering part of the company’s funds to. I checked the pharmaceutical file and saw the same ‘service fee’ written there.
That’s the reason the treatment fee was so high. The company has been paying this fee to a company with a registered capital of just five hundred thousand for the past two years.
My eyes flew across the file and I saw that the company’s registrant was Christopher Marsh. Marsh… that’s a name in Amara’s family. This is definitely evidence of Amara’s fraudulent activities.
I mean, it isn’t a coincidence that the ‘service fee’ that was being paid to this company started when Amara joined the finance team which was two years ago.
My heart raced as I glanced at the file again, this is a big proff to bring Amara down but I can’t act yet. I need to tell Nicholas about my discovery and discuss the next step to take with him.
