THE NEXT DAY
My peaceful sleep was disrupted when I felt something bright shining above my eye. I opened my eyes but shut it back almost immediately as the bright light of the sun penetrating through the curtains hit my eyes.
I turned to face the other side and stretched my body before sitting up. I yawned tiredly and was about to stand up when I realised that I was naked. Conniption gripped me immediately as I wondered why I was naked.
“What happened?? Why am I naked?? Did Andrew take advantage of me last night??” Theose were the questions I was asking myself till I took a good look at my surroundings.
This isn’t my room. I was still lost staring around when a migraine hit me followed by all of the memories of last night. I held my head in pain as they all came rushing at once.
After the migraine had stopped, my fear turned into relief and happiness immediately. I had been scared thinking Andrew had done something to me. I thought more about what happened last night and a wave of embarrassment suddenly hit me.
I never knew I could do that to Nicholas of all people. I did enjoy it though. I know I wasn’t in my right mind last night but I don’t regret what had happened. If I was given the chance, I’m pretty sure I’d do it again.
I wrapped the blanket around my body and stood up from the bed. My legs felt really wobbly because of what had happened last njght but I managed to search around the penthouse but couldn’t see any sign of Nicholas. Did he leave?? In disappointment, I retired to the room.
I was about to pick on my phone that was on the bed stand and call him when I saw a small note on it. I didn’t notice it there before. I picked it up and read all its contents.
A small smile curved on my lips when I saw what was written there. He apologized for leaving early explaining that he had some important things to do at the company.
He also asked about how I was feeling and reminded me to rest if I wasn’t really okay. Then he told me that he left me new clothes to wear and asked me to call the room service if I was hungry and needed anything.
The last part of the note warmed my heart the most. ‘I love you Catherine’ it read. I felt the butterflies in my tummy flutter around and I giggled happily. I love you too Nicholas.
I dropped the note and proceeded to prepare a warm bath for myself before taking my bath. By the time I was done, I was feeling too sick like I did when I woke up.
After dressing up, I called in sick at the company, saying I’ll resume tomorrow. Thinking about working today made me more tired. I just wanted to use the whole day to gain back my lost energy.
As time went by, the nauseating feeling I was getting from being drunk last night died away so I ordered some food. Minutes later, I heard the door bell to the penthouse ring.
When I opened the door, I didn’t see the server. I only saw my food, resting on the trolley outside my door. I didn’t think much about it and pushed the food in before entering back into the room.
I was about to take a bite when I heard my phone ringing. I picked it up and a frown appeared on my face when I saw Andrew’s name flashing on the screen. I didn’t know why I did it but I picked the call.
Andrew didn’t wait for me to say anything nor did he extend a ‘good morning’ greeting and started ranting immediately.
“Where are you?? Why didn’t you come home last night?? Do you have any idea about how hard it was for me to be alone in this house in my state??” His loud and reproaching voice was giving me a headache.
I wasn’t in the mood to explain anything to him so I cut the call while he was still talking. He called again and again but I placed my phone in silent mode so he wouldn’t disturb me, then I proceeded to relish in the sweet delicacy in front of me.
Later in the afternoon, I was feeling much better so I returned home with Fiona, the bodyguard Nicholas had gotten for me. When I stepped into the house, I saw my father but there was no sign of Amara and that made me happy.
“You’re back.” I said to dad, drawing his attention to me.
“Yes, I decided to come back early.” He answered.
“I see but what about Amara??” I asked feigning curiosity.
“She’ll be back in a few days. She’s still receiving treatment.” He answered.
With a concerned face on; “Are her injuries that bad?” I asked again.
“Not really, she’s recovering so you don’t have to worry about her.” Dad answered and I nodded in understanding.
I was about to head into my room when; “What happened to your face?” I heard dad ask and turned back in confusion. What’s wrong with my face?
I was about to answer when I noticed him staring at someone else, Andrew. Andrew was obviously startled by his question but he was quick to lie about what really happened.
I didn’t think it would profit me now if I explained what had really happened so I kept quiet about it. I was about to take my leave when I heard Andrew call out to me.
I rolled my eyes angrily and turned to face him with a faux smile. “What’s it??” I asked.
“Who’s that lady?” He asked back as he pointed at Fiona.
“Oh… I have been meaning to ask. Who’s she?” Dad asked too.
“She’s my bodyguard.” I answered.
“Your bodyguard? Why would you need a bodyguard?” Dad asked in confusion so I explained what had happened with Larry, the man that wanted to take advantage of me last night.
After I finished explaining what had happened, dad was really furious. He slammed the table agrily, stating he would cancel the collaboration with the pharmaceutical company.
My heart almost skipped a bit when he said that. I didn’t want all my hard work to go in vain all because of a nuisance so I convinced dad to just assign a different person for the project.
Dad reasoned with me and agreed to my decision. I gave him small smile before leaving for my bedroom. Fiona stayed downstairs like I ordered. I was about to enter my room when Andrew pushed me aside and entered before me. I breathed in and out deeply as I tried to hold back my anger.
“Why did you end the call this morning??” He asked as he folded his hands around his chest. He really wants to do this right now?? Alright then.
“What about you? Why did you give the necklace you gifted me to Amara?” I asked back, anger written all over my face.
I notice how he started to panic, his eyes flickering as he tried to come up with a reasonable explanation and that almost made me laugh out loud. I’ve gotten him where I wanted.
Pretending to cry; “I was ready to forgive you but what you did hurt me deeply. Why would you gift her something that’s already mine. Do I mean that little to you??” I asked.
“No.. no.. I didn’t…” He was talking but I cut him off.
“You’ve changed. You’ve changed from the person I used to know and I can’t handle it anymore. Let’s break up and go our separate ways.” I said.
Andrew was too stunned to speak as he was not expecting that I would make such a direct request. He had always been thinking that I love him so much that I can’t bear to live without him.
“I’m so sorry. I never knew that my action would make you feel this way. I did it with an honest reason in mind.” He apologized as he tried to come closer to me but I moved away.
“What was the reason?” I asked and he went mute immediately.
“You see, you can’t even answer that simple question. You know what, just leave.” I ordered but he did the opposite and pulled me into a hug immediately.
“What are you doing? Get off me!!” I ordered but that only made him pull me closer.
“I’m so sorry my love. You know what, I’ll get you a better and more expensive gift than the ruby necklace.” He said and I stopped struggling immediately.
“How? That ruby necklace was so expensive.” I said.
“I’ll do anything for you my love. Don’t worry about the money, I can afford it.” He answered making me smile.
I knew that he had little money in his account because of the pickpocket that took his credit card in Miami. The only way for him to get that amount of money he’s looking for is through Amara.
Amara certainly wouldn’t want to give that huge amount of money if she knows he plans to spend it on me. This will surely cause a fight between the two lovebirds and I can’t wait for it to happen.
