Love you back

Book:Revenge On My Ex Husband Published:2024-11-19

All through, my eyes were solely on Nicholas. He had been quiet since the doctor broke the news about my miscarriage. Was he suddenly having a change of mind??
“They did this to you, didn’t they?” Nicholas suddenly asked.
“Huh??”
“They made you lose the baby.” He said since I didn’t understand the question.
I stared at him silently, not knowing what to say. How was I supposed to tell him that my own husband murdered his own child right in my belly?? It seemed like he understand my silence so he didn’t ask any other questions.
Rather, he suddenly pulled me into a hug. I went stiff immediately since I wasn’t expecting it. Within seconds, I had already calmed down and I hugged him back.
After minutes of being in each other’s embrace, we pulled away. He placed his hands tenderly on my cheek and stared at me with a gaze no other guy had ever done. A look filled with love and tenderness.
“I’m so sorry for what you had to pass through Catherine. It must have been so hard for you.” He muttered. I was genuinely surprised by his words. I thought he would be mad.
“This is the last time you’ll ever pass through such things. As long as I’m with you, I promise to let them pay for all the did to you.” He swore as he pulled me into another deep hug.
“I’ll stand by you till my last breath Catherine.” His words made my heart melt. No one except my father had ever made me feel this safe. His words were so reassuring that I couldn’t help but fall deeper into his embrace.
We pulled away for the second time and stared at each other silently. I don’t really know about him but I was lost staring at his gorgeous eyes. Even though his face and body held no expression, his eyes always gave him away.
I was able to tell whatever he was thinking through his eyes. Right now, be looked happy, sad and mad at the same time. I wonder why.
“Catherine..” He called as he held my palm in his.
“Hmmm..”
“Why don’t you divorce your husband?” He suddenly asked.
“It’s not that easy.” I answered.
“How so?”
“I tried it once and it didn’t really end well.” I muttered with a sigh as I recalled how he almost choked me to death when I mentioned the word ‘divorce’ to him.
Nicholas’ eyes darkened in fury; “He hurt you?” He asked. There’s no use in lying to him as I had let him in, in most of my secrets. I smiled softly before nodding.
I noticed how his teeth clenched against each other. “Have you tried to tell your father about this?” He asked again.
“I can’t… yet”
“Why not?” He asked in frustration.
“My father trusts Amara so much so he wouldn’t believe until I show him some evidence.”
“But you said you caught them on your house’s surveillance cameras.”
“I did but that’s too easy for them. If they were just sleeping together, it would be better but they are also trying to ruin my father’s company and I don’t have any evidence of that yet.” I explained.
“So you intend to keep suffering in silence??”
“No, I intend to play their games till I have enough cards to bring them dowm.”
Nicholas stared at me silently like he was thinking about all I had just said. “Alright, if that’s how you want it to go, I have a few suggestions.”
“What is it?” I asked, suddenly eager to hear what he had to say.
“If you want this plan of yours to work, you’ll have to share everything with me. Whether big or small.”
“Deal!”
“Also, I’ll assign a guard for you. Your security matters.”
“Sure!! And also, I’d like to run some tests on myself.” I suggested.
“Tests? Why? Is something wrong?” He asked in concern.
“Not really. It’s just that I’m afraid that I might be infertile.” I announced.
I said that because in my past life, I wasn’t able to take in after loosing my child. Since my miscarriage wasn’t natural, I just need to take a few test, just to be sure.
“Alright then, if that’s what you want.” He said in understanding. He didn’t really seem disappointed by the fact that I mentioned being infertile. He didn’t mind.
“Also, another test for my father.” I added.
“If that’s what you want, consider it done.” He said.
I didn’t trust my family’s doctor enough to run the test on my dad. Amara might find out and she wouldn’t let him do it. Nicholas is the only person that I can trust with this.
We kept on talking for a few more minutes before we heard a small cough. We pulled away from each other and I was finally able to see who it was. It was Liam, Nicholas’ assistant.
“What’s wrong?” Nicholas asked in a displeased tone. Why was he mad?
“You have a call.” Liam answered as he pointed at his phone.
“Can’t it wait??”
“I’m afraid not. It’s really important.” Nicholas groaned in frustration before he stood up. He turned to face me.
“I’ll be right back.” He muttered as he gave me a small smile before leaving the room with Liam.
Within a few minutes, Nicholas came back into the room. I noticed how his face had a very serious expression on even though he tried to mask it with a soft smile.
“Is something wrong?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“It’s fine. Just company issues.” I nodded my head in understanding even though it was quite obvious that it’s more serious than that. If he wanted to tell me what really happened, he wouldn’t have given me this excuse so I decided not to pressurize him.
He sat on the chair close to my bed and picked up his phone. I watched him silently as he pressed on his phone with a very serious expression. The door to my ward was opened again and Liam came in.
“The flight has been booked. We’re to fly to New York in thirty minutes so we need to head to the airport now. ” Liam announced before he left the ward.
“Flight?? Are you leaving?” I asked in surprise.
“Yes, it was a last minute decision.” Nicholas said as he stood up from his chair.
“Wait, let me escort you to the airport then.” I said as I stood up from the bed swiftly.
“There’s no need. I’ll have my driver drop you off at your home.”
“But I insist.” I said stubbornly.
“You heard what the doctor said. You need all the rest you can get. I’ll call you when the plane lands.” He said, leaving no room for any argument.
“Alright then. Have a safe flight.” I muttered, trying to mask how sad I felt. His lips curved up into a small smile and he hugged me one last time. He pulled away and placed a soft kiss on my forehead.
“Bye Catherine.” He muttered before he left the ward.
I stood in silence as I watched him leave. I touched the spot on my forehead that he had kissed and I smiled. I had already vowed to rectify a lot of mistakes I made in my past life, including how I treated him. In this life, I’ll make sure to love you back Nicholas.
