OLIVIA
“So you don’t think giving up isn’t an option?” I asked Adrian. He seemed to be making sense lately. He might as well have the perfect solution to my problem.
“The solution is right there in front of you. It’s you who has refused to see it,” Adrian came up with yet another word of wisdom that caused my brain to shut down.
“I don’t follow.
What exactly are you talking about?” I forced myself to ask. I couldn’t keep the question to myself anymore.
“Oh, Olivia.
There you go again.
You missed the point.
Think, Olivia. You’re always running out of line,” Adrian fumed. He was unable to withstand my naughtiness anymore. If I were in his position, I would do worse.
“I think I know what you’re talking about now,” I snapped my hands as a thought flickered across my face like a flash. With a move too fast, I grabbed it before it would pass me by.
“I would plead with Rene to let me move in with them. That way, I can monitor the affairs of the company.” I suggested.
“That made sense.
With your presence in the house, Rene won’t dare anything stupid knowing that you’d be watching,” Kate endorsed my suggestion.
I wasn’t moved or bothered by her support. The only opinion that counted was Adrian’s.
“I am waiting for you to speak. Do you think that was a brilliant suggestion, or I was just bluffing?” I focused my attention on Adrian and neglected Kate.
“Sounds like a good plan. Although, I still have my worries,” Adrian opined. His opinion was somewhat complicated. I didn’t know how to react to it.
“Can you please explain? I don’t seem to be getting it,” I pleaded with Adrian. There was no point pretending to know when I was clueless.
“What would you say to Cyril when he asks about your apartment? As it stands now, he doesn’t want to set his eyes on you, let alone see you move in with them.. You might as well start thinking about your game plan,” Adrian analyzed my situation so perfectly as though he were a football coach.
He sent me back to my dashboard where I spent most of my time chewing my nails as though I were starving. I perceived it to be an easy task, yet I was still stuck with my thoughts.
“You might need me to assist you on this one. Night is fast approaching, and you must act faster before it becomes too late. The next few minutes can’t be predicted,” Adrian weighed in and offered to help.
“Please don’t.
I would rather figure it out myself. I have to learn to start making my decisions without external help. What if you are not there to help me? You are not going to be there with me forever, are you?” I politely declined his offer to assist me.
“I simply told him that I got robbed, and I required someplace to stay until I could afford one. I would also plead with Rene to let me run the company. She has no experience whatsoever with the affairs of ruining a company,” I spoke without a pause to avoid missing out on the idea. The thought came like magic; it wasn’t deliberate.
Adrian was speeches
I guess my utterances hit him at the right spot he never expected.
Without waiting for his opinion, I knew I made so much sense.
“Perfect!” He applauded me.
“That was the sweetest piece I’ve ever heard. Your confidence has increased tremendously and I am excited about it. You made it seem easy when it appeared to be difficult,” Adrian added. He won’t stop praising me as though I were some goddess of beauty.
“Do you suggest I go speak with Rene immediately?” I spoke with so much excitement.
“Go girl.
Don’t sleep on it,” he winked at me. Adrian winked at me. Before he could speak further, I stepped outside the car straight to the hospital.
On the verge of entering Derek’s ward, I paused with speed to rethink my decision.
Derek doesn’t want to see me.
Going back to the ward might be suspicious.
“This was supposed to be a perfect plan. I would rather not ruin it with my nonchalant attitude,” I said to myself and diverted to Doctor Escobar’s office. He is in the next position to help me out.
Being Cyril’s Doctor gives him the edge over everyone. Even Cyril wouldn’t dare question the presence of Escobar in his ward.
“Olivia, you are still here? I thought you’d gone home already?” Escobar was stunned by me in his office.
“Home?
Where’s the home?
With everything that’s been happening lately, I doubt if I still have a place called home. What’s the difference between myself and those homeless kids roaming the streets?”I wailed. I couldn’t fight back the tiny tears gushing down my eyes.
I was so troubled to the point where I forgot to knock. Knowing my situation, Escobar wasn’t upset at me.
“Please be seated, let’s talk about it.
What’s the issue this time? Is it something I could solve?” Escobar asked with seriousness. He took my situation so dearly as though we were related.
“I would rather remain standing to talk about it.” I refused without making it seem like I was being rude to him.
“I need to speak to Rene. Can you please fetch her for me?” I pleaded with Doctor Escobar. I had the urge to go down on both knees just to demonstrate my seriousness.
“I don’t think that will be possible to accomplish.” Escobar nodded his head both ways to decline my request.
“And why is that?
You did that before.
I understand the pressure I’m putting on you. I want to assure you, this would be the last time,” I assured him.
“That’s not even the point. The problem isn’t Rene, but Cyril, your husband. Ever since Rene came Into the picture, he refused to let her leave his sight for a second,” Escobar explained in clear terms. I understood everything perfectly without stress.
“This is becoming embarrassing.”
I sighed.
“Is there a specific date for his recovery? I can’t deal with Rene’s madness anymore. I feel like crushing Rene to death with my bare hands,” I prepared my fist, ready to launch a strike on Rene’s pink face.
