Chapter 471: He Was Sick

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-11-18

He had considered that Callie had a past, but when he faced her past directly, his once calm heart was thrown into turmoil, something he hadn’t anticipated.
Thus, he understood better how heartbroken she must have been when she faced his past.
By dawn, everything was finally settled. He sent everyone back to rest and drove himself back to Paucaster Villa Complex.
The rain had stopped, and the air, not yet polluted by exhaust fumes, was very fresh.
He felt dizzy and somewhat uncomfortable.
It was too early; the people at Paucaster Villa Complex were not yet awake.
The man first checked the master bedroom. Callie was sound asleep, clutching her phone tightly, likely having stayed up late worrying about Regan.
After not seeing her for a few days, Nelson gently brushed Callie’s hair aside as if she were a treasure, took her phone away, and tucked her in properly.
He refilled the water cup on her bedside table and quietly closed the door as he left.
Callie was a light sleeper; he didn’t want to disturb her. He went straight to the guest bedroom, took off his coat, and quickly fell asleep.
The dizziness felt unnatural.
When Callie woke up, she noticed something unusual. The car keys on the bedside table were Nelson’s. Had he returned?
She couldn’t explain why, but perhaps because of his help and warmth last night, she immediately got out of bed and walked barefoot for a couple of steps. The warm feeling of the carpet spread from her feet.
She stopped, went back, and obediently put on her shoes.
She had a habit of walking barefoot, and every time Nelson saw it, he would scold her, even in front of the servants, making her so embarrassed. He was very tough on her.
Callie searched around, thinking Nelson might be in the study, but it was empty.
Was he not here?
Or had he left again?
To be honest, Callie didn’t think much more about it. She even felt a sense of relief.
She still had some unresolved feelings about what happened that night.
She opened her phone to find a message from Isaac saying that Regan had been found. She had caught a high fever from being in the rain and was unconscious but had been sent back to the Ellison family.
That day Ahmad had called Isaac, who was also covered in mud, to scold him, “You should know when to stop.”
After running around all night, Isaac felt a mix of emotions-mostly absurdity. He pulled up a corner of his mouth in a wicked smile.
Knowing Regan was safe, Callie felt relieved. She wanted to visit her but hesitated due to her own identity and some “stand-in literature,” making it hard to take that step.
She sat on the balcony drawing.
Nancy was cleaning today. When she reached the study and noticed the guest bedroom door slightly ajar, she pushed it open out of curiosity and saw Nelson lying on the bed asleep.
Startled, she walked over and softly called him, “Mr. Oconnor, why are you sleeping here?”
Nelson didn’t respond. Nancy instinctively touched his forehead and was immediately frightened.
“Someone come quickly!”
The result was a circle of people gathered in the guest bedroom.
Nelson woke up directly.
He saw Ben applying medicine to his wrist, preparing an IV drip.
Seeing him awake, Ben glared at him: “How many days have you not slept? Are you trying to kill yourself?”
Nelson’s eyelids lifted slightly; even in illness, his gaze was sharp.
He closed his eyes. “It’s nothing serious. A good sleep will fix it.”
Ben retorted bluntly, “A high fever of 39. 1 degrees is nothing serious? You must be Superman.” He deftly inserted the needle into Nelson’s vein with a slight sting.
Nelson was truly exhausted and smiled bitterly, letting Ben do as he pleased.
