Nelson was sitting in the lounge area, looking at the table where a few folders were placed. He casually picked one up to read, and she immediately tried to stop him. “You cannot…”
Nelson interrupted her, “What’s your name?”
“Charlotte Johnson.”
Nelson didn’t pay much attention and quickly forgot it. He found the information about Vanco and started flipping through the pages rapidly, memorizing everything as he went.
Charlotte had never encountered such a situation before. She felt a sense of duty to protect the office since Jaquan had left her in charge.
Taking a deep breath, she mustered up her courage. “Mr. Oconnor, whatever you are, I don’t think you have the right to go through these things.”
Her words were righteous, but her expression looked like she was facing a great ordeal.
Nelson closed the folder and looked at her with amusement. “Where’s Jaquan?”
As if on cue, Jaquan walked in with a group of people behind him. He looked up and saw Charlotte’s back and a vaguely familiar figure.
He had only seen such a figure once in Ylosea.
Jaquan gestured for his people to leave and walked over with a serious expression. Naturally, he took Charlotte’s hand and pulled her back, smiling: “Nelson, don’t scare her. She’s timid.”
Nelson closed the folder, his expression indifferent, “Looks like I should congratulate you, Jaquan.”
“Just a personal assistant. She seemed like a good fit, so I kept her around. Her name is Charlotte.”
“She’s introduced herself.”
Charlotte leaned closer to Jaquan and whispered, “But I didn’t know him.”
Jaquan chuckled, patted her back reassuringly, said something to her, and she nodded obediently before turning to leave.
As she closed the door behind her, she gave Nelson one last look, her face serious.
Jaquan was usually gentle and calm. She thought his achievements allowed him to do as he pleased, but it was the first time she saw him so wary of someone.
All the information about Vanco was laid out in front of Nelson, meticulously detailed.
Jaquan stood against the light in front of Nelson and scoffed: “Nelson, it’s rare to see you these days. You come to Scott Group just to extort us?”
Nelson was always straightforward and laid out his intentions clearly.
He wanted Jaquan to let Vanco off the hook.
Jaquan laughed after hearing this and asked, “Why? As far as I know, Oconnor Group has no interest in Vanco.”
Nelson’s expression remained calm, “Someone begged me desperately. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gotten involved.”
Jaquan relaxed and said leisurely, “I thought you had someone new in your life and wouldn’t feel guilty about that person anymore. Does Callie know you’re doing this?”
No wife would be happy about their husband doing such things for another woman.
Nelson absentmindedly played with a pen, “Just tell me if you can or can’t.”
“If you want me to let go, there are conditions.” Jaquan smiled slyly, his eyes full of calculation.
“Not for free. The project Shamar handled, I will give three percent of its quarterly profits to Scott Group.”
That was quite a significant return.
“Just for Vanco? If you want it, Nelson, it’s yours.” Jaquan smiled nonchalantly.
