Sometimes, you just have to make a choice, even when there isn’t one.
Business is never without its tricks…
Marilyn smiled helplessly, “Alright.”
It was obvious that Nelson had been moved by her tonight. It seemed like he was taking advantage of the situation, but in reality, he was offering help.
After a moment of silence, her gaze fell on his damp clothes, and she blurted out, “Do you want to change your clothes? I can dry them for you. You might catch a cold.”
Nelson looked at her, his hand vibrating with a call from Callie.
Marilyn’s smile faded, “You should go.”
Outside, the rain continued to pour.
Without a word, Nelson walked out while saying, “For matters regarding Vanco, contact Anthony.”
The reason he stayed to talk so much was because she hadn’t mentioned anything about the past here.
It was her beautiful dream, but his taboo.
Marilyn stood at the entrance of the room, feeling the hot water gradually cool down. She heard Nelson close the door behind him and then the sound of his car starting, which slowly faded away until it was drowned out by the rain.
Marilyn felt her once racing heart slowly calm down.
She turned around and slowly opened the wardrobe in the room.
She had prepared herself mentally, but she didn’t expect to see various clothes still hanging inside, spotless and well-maintained.
Men’s shirts and suits, women’s T-shirts and dresses, all neatly placed together, like a family’s wardrobe.
Marilyn felt a pang in her chest. These clothes were Callie’s size. She had been here too…
Her heart ached so much that she could hardly breathe. She clutched her chest and squatted down, her eyes almost bloodshot. Callie again!
The next day.
The top floor of Scott Group was a display of opulence. When Nelson pushed open Jaquan’s office door, a woman was sitting at his desk reading a book.
The book lay open on the desk, and she sat upright like a high school student, reading line by line. She didn’t notice anyone had entered.
First impressions suggested she was an unassuming woman, not particularly beautiful but with a unique aura that made one want to keep looking at her.
Nelson withdrew his gaze at the right moment and knocked on the door.
The woman looked up, her eyes confused. Seeing this extraordinary man, she froze for a moment before standing up and speaking in a cool voice, “Who are you looking for?”
Nelson didn’t answer.
She quickly explained, “Mr. Scott is out. He might be gone for a while. He asked me to wait here…”
Nelson found it interesting. A woman who could be left alone in Jaquan’s highly confidential office was no ordinary person.
He asked directly, “Who are you?”
The woman hesitated and stammered, “I’m Mr. Scott’s new assistant.”
“Assistant?”
Nelson’s appearance could be described as strikingly handsome, yet he exuded an otherworldly aura, as if untouched by the noise of the world-a rare combination of physical and inner beauty. A man with such an aura making it to the top floor without hindrance was no ordinary person.
The woman dared not look at him directly, “Personal assistant.”
Nelson understood and picked up the book she had set aside. It was a complex economics text.
She felt overwhelmed by his unique presence, “Would you like something to drink? I’ll get it for you.”
The girl walked around the desk without any fear, holding the book in her arms. Her long dress swayed gracefully as she moved with poise and courtesy.
Nelson watched her and inexplicably found her familiar, “Hot water will do.”
She quickly brought it to him, “I don’t know your name yet.”
“My last name is Oconnor.”
“Mr. Oconnor.”
