She then turned to look at the man beside her, her voice still gentle, “Tom, the teacher had something come up last minute, so we rescheduled. We’ll discuss the comic collection tomorrow. Sorry, I didn’t get a chance to tell you earlier.”
Tom Fritz looked at her, surprised that this girl had agreed to his grandmother’s invitation just to accommodate him. Their gazes met, both smiling at each other, and Tom felt quite moved.
Agnes always felt a strange sense of admiration when she looked up at him. She was both clear-headed and not; she poured all her affection for Mr. Cat onto this man that afternoon.
“Alright.”
Tom Fritz’s expression was gentle as he looked up at his mother.
“Mom, please ask Jona to prepare some clothes and daily necessities for Bubu.”
“Okay.”
Jane smiled warmly, feeling very satisfied with Agnes based on her own intuition. The first impression between people is crucial.
Yes, she liked this girl from the first glance; her graceful demeanor gave Jane a very comfortable feeling.
“Come on, I’ll take you to the study,” Tom Fritz said, trying to avoid having her surrounded by the elders. After bidding farewell to his grandmother, he put his arm around her shoulder and led her towards his study.
Agnes wasn’t sure if her earlier response was correct or what Tom thought about it. It wasn’t until the study door closed that the elder looked at her daughter-in-law and asked quietly, “Did you give her the bracelet?”
“Yes, Mom,” Jane replied with a gentle smile.
“Consider it a meeting gift.”
“You approve of her?”
“Yes,” Jane nodded.
“I trust my son’s judgment. This girl is good-modest, reserved, and polite.”
The grandmother said no more. Since Agnes was willing to stay, as long as they slept in the same bed tonight, it would prove their relationship wasn’t just an agreement. That phone call must have been a misunderstanding.
Hiding behind a nearby door, Lisa felt another wave of disappointment wash over her. Why hadn’t things gone as she expected? She had tried so hard to stir things up; in another author’s story, she might have succeeded in ruining things. How did she end up helping every time?
What was Grandma planning? To see if they shared a room and bed to prove their relationship?
Lisa sat on her bed with a heavy sigh; it seemed she was completely out of luck.
In Tom Fritz’s private study, the lights were bright, and he locked the door behind them. Agnes felt inexplicably nervous; in this small space, it was just the two of them.
“Sorry for agreeing with Grandma earlier,” she explained softly.
“I saw Lisa hiding behind the door; her eyes told me she wanted to cause trouble.”
“The one who should apologize is me,” Tom Fritz said as he looked at her.
“I’m the one who caused you trouble.”
He then walked towards the window.
Watching his back, Agnes bit her lip slightly; what made her nervous wasn’t his character but her uncontrollable racing heart and flushed cheeks-she didn’t even dare look at his face.
Agnes didn’t know what was wrong with herself; the more she tried to control it, the more obvious these fluctuating emotions became, especially when she looked into his eyes.
Tom Fritz opened the curtains.
“I really didn’t expect Grandma to make such an invitation. But don’t worry; I’ll handle it with you. Please trust me.”
Of course she trusted him; if they had to share a room, with his character, he would definitely give up the bed for her.
“By the way, your mom also hopes I can bring my parents over for dinner tomorrow before our engagement,” Agnes said as she looked at him.
