Before leaving the country, she had to complete all her work.
From start to finish.
Rosalind had been looking down for several hours, and by the time she lifted her head, it was already two o’clock in the morning.
Her neck was sore from the strain, forcing her to take a break.
She instinctively checked her phone and noticed a message from the taxi driver. Worried she might not find his WhatsApp later, Rosalind had already noted his contact information.
Wayer City Taxi Driver: “Heading to Jingtown for work?”
Although puzzled by his question, Rosalind replied, “Yes, going to Jingtown on a business trip.”
After sending the message, she remembered it was very late; the driver must have been asleep by now! People his age typically don’t stay up late.
After stretching for a bit, Rosalind returned to her computer, only to find that the driver had replied on WhatsApp!
She checked again; indeed, it was two-thirty in the morning.
Wayer City Taxi Driver: “Oh, have a safe trip.”
She smiled helplessly, feeling a warmth in her heart.
Despite their strange acquaintance, the driver seemed genuinely kind! Feeling the goodwill of a stranger was truly a different experience.
“Thank you! I’ll tell you all about it when I get back.”
She put down her phone with a sigh.
It was too late to finish her work now; tomorrow she had meetings to attend and contracts to review. Plus, Lion mentioned that the investment firm would be sending a lawyer; she had to be vigilant, energetic, and not appear as if she had just woken up.
First impressions mattered.

On the other side, Ulric, clad in a dark robe, stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, phone in hand, rereading the screen over and over.
Had the conversation really ended just like that?
Why did it always seem that just a few words from him could end the discussion?
His fingertips touched the screen, yet he hesitated and sent nothing.
By now, Rosalind was probably asleep.
Ulric set his phone down and turned to fetch a bottle of wine from the cabinet. His sleep quality had deteriorated; without a bit of intoxication, he couldn’t sleep.
Just as he grasped a wine glass, his phone rang.
At this hour, it could only be his parents.
He poured the wine before answering, “Mom.”
“Have you been making things difficult for Sirena at the company?” his mother asked.
Ulric frowned, “If W Group starts parachuting people in, we’ll never establish any rules.”
“But Sirena is not just anyone; she has done so much for W Group,” Audrey argued vehemently on Sirena’s behalf, almost as if Sirena were her own daughter. “She shouldn’t just be parachuted into the legal department; it would be normal if it were the board of directors! It’s not about the so-called rules. If it were Rosalind parachuting in, you’d be applauding!”
Ulric’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of Rosalind.
Just hearing her name seemed to exert a magical influence over him.
“What does Rosalind have to do with this?”
“Then tell me, who are you marrying this time? You announce your marriage without even discussing it with your parents. Have you considered the company? I’m sending Sirena back to help you!”
