Monica’s POV
I paced in the living room as I waited for Nicholas to arrive.
Three people you should stay away from are Ethan your ex-husband, Mia your stepsister and ex-husband’s mistress, and Greg, your husband’s brother. They are all dangerous and are after your life.
These words rang in my head as I suddenly realized that I’d been living and trusting the wrong people all this while.
“Hey, I’m here. What’s wrong?” I heard Nicholas’s voice behind me and I turned around to look at the man who was my husband.
He is your husband and the best any woman can pray for.
These words rang in my head as I looked at the man I felt guilty about some days ago because I slept with him.
The man who was deeply hurt when I went home with Ethan and the man who always looked at me with love and care in his eyes
“Are you my husband?” I asked, unsure of the first word I should be saying.
“Yes, I am. Is that why you called me here? You don’t look good honey, you look like you’ve seen a ghost” he uttered, walking towards me and standing very close to me.
“Why can’t I remember anything?” I asked, feeling defeated and exhausted by everything
“Because you lost all your memories but your body didn’t lose itself. You Brian might have forgotten me but your heart and your body recognized me” he said, his voice soothing and calm
I walked away from him and took the book from the couch. “This was delivered to me this morning. Did you know about it?” I asked, stretching the book towards him and he took it out of my hand
Opening the book, his eyes scanned through the contents and I saw a cute smile appear across his face “You wrote this?” He asked, fixing his gaze on me.
“I don’t know but I think so. I can’t remember” I said sadly, not liking the fact that I lost all my memories and forgot about everyone I loved.
“It’s your handwritten Monica. You wrote this but I had no idea about it. It seems like you hid it from me” Nicholas explained and I sighed, crashing on the couch as many thoughts ran through my head.
“So this means that you’re my real husband and not Ethan,” I said.
“I told you before but you didn’t believe me,” he said, raising his left eyebrow
“Mia also mentioned this two days ago but I thought she just wanted to scatter my marriage. It seems like everyone has been right about Ethan. I’ve been a fool for_”
“Hey hey hey,” Nicholas said, taking my hand in his and I also felt a spark as our skin made contact “You’re not a fool. Don’t ever call yourself that again,” he said then leaned forward and placed a kiss on my cheeks.
I smiled shyly as I took my hands off his and turned away “You’re beautiful like you always have been” he said, staring at me adorably and I couldn’t help but smile even more, blushing too.
Now I finally knew the truth, I didn’t know what to do anymore. I was living with Ethan who was my ex but I was supposed to live with Nicholas who was the one who made my heart skip a beat.
“What do I do? I’m right in the lion’s den living with the lions. Should I leave? I can’t stay with the people who want to hurt me.” I said worriedly.
Nicholas just moved closer to me and wrapped his hands around me. “Just stay still, I want to hold you like this,” he said, my head under his chin as he played with my hair.
I wrapped my hands around his waist too and breathed in deeply as his scent filled my nostrils. I felt safe and comfortable with him but with Ethan, I felt empty and didn’t feel any connection.
“I’m glad you finally know the truth. Everyone has been worried that Mia or Ethan were going to hurt you. They kept screaming that I should bring you back home but that was a difficult task because you seemed to trust Ethan more than I” Nicholas said.
“I’m sorry,” I said, feeling more guilty “Though I lost my memories I feel secure in your embrace. The first time you touched me after the surgery, I felt like I’d know you but I doubted it. I’m sorry if I ever made you cry” I added
“Oh yes, you did. I didn’t just cry, I wept. I couldn’t focus at work for days and I kept thinking about you. My heart ached whenever I thought of the possibility that you will never come back to me” Nicholas said and my heart sank.
“I’m sorry. I promise not to hurt you ever again” I said and he broke the hug and cupped my face in his palm.
“You don’t need to promise anything. The fact that you believe that I’m your husband is enough for me” he said with a loving and mesmerizing gaze.
“But what do I do? I think I should follow you back home where I belong. I don’t feel comfortable on this roof anymore. I think we should get my things, get the kids, and go home together” I said but Nicholas shook his head from side to side
“No we shouldn’t do that,” he said, disagreeing with what I had previously said.
“No?” I asked “But why?” I added.
“No, we shouldn’t leave yet. Let’s watch them closely. I’m sure Mia isn’t happy with the fact that you and Ethan are together and I know she will do all she can to get rid of you. I also suspect Ethan was behind the fact that I was put in prison back in Germany”
“You were thrown in prison,” I asked in shock, staring at Nicholas “Why?” I added
“That’s a discussion for another day but I want you to still be with Ethan. I need evidence against him. He is the reason why I wasn’t the first person you saw when you opened your eyes after the surgery and that little event scattered a lot of things” Nicholas said and I gasped.
I never knew he went to prison. I didn’t know Ethan was behind it. What sort of person was Ethan?
“You’re going to stay with Ethan and gather as much evidence as possible. I won’t let Ethan go Scott but in the meantime, we will be meeting in secret places and lastly, please be careful” Nicholas said then engulfed me in his comforting arms
If Ethan was this dangerous then I needed to be careful with him. I was going to pretend as Nicholas instructed and carefully do my thing in this house.
