” No.. No. Tell me you are joking; this is a prank!” Luna Mavana yelled, racing out of the prison room, wishing it was not true.
Her breath sulked up in her throat as she heard the cries and whimpers behind her, and her body snapped back in disbelief: the maids were now crying in front of her.
Her body felt numb from disbelief, refusing to accept the unbearable truth.
She shook her head and took a step back, “I honestly do not find this funny, I fell for the prank, where is he?” Her voice cracked.
She felt as though nothing was real, including the maids’ growing cries, their dejected expressions, and the eerie quiet that pervaded the room.
“No, this is not possible.”The pain was choking her, and her mind was denying the harsh truth.
“I need someone to slap my head; it is a nightmare.” Her voice trembled as she whispered.
Alpha Damian’s and her parents’ laughter, smiles, arguments, encouragement, and joyful times filled her mind.
She clung to denial because she could not accept the reality.
Her personal maid stepped forward and apologized, saying, “I am so sorry, Luna Mavana.”
“How is he dead? I excused myself so he could get his treatment in his room. He is a strong man, and he is not dead.” She yelled, and the maids’ cries echoed through the air.
Her body shook with terror, and she felt lost, falling into shock and grief.
She wished someone could come and wake her up from her dream.
The truth seeped into her soul, and she realized, “He is really gone.” She screamed, the realization crashing down on her and leaving her gasping for air.
She yanked her hair pin out, allowing her long hair to fall freely down to her waist. Her hand gripped it tightly as she choked on her tears.
” Aaaaaaargh!” Her scream pierced the air, a raw and painful cry that sent chills down the spine.
Her scream echoed throughout the pack house, and The Alpha’s mother, who had been restless in her room, rushed out, her mind reeling and racing with various ideas.
Her steps came to a halt as she saw the sight in front of her, from the maids’ wails to Luna Mavana’s display.
“What happened? Why is everyone crying?”The Alpha’s mother inquired, looking around perplexedly.
Luna Mavana jumped up and darted towards Alpha Damian’s room, twisting the door knob impatiently before stepping in.
Her eyes scanned the room, her mind racing.
And she saw him. Alpha Damian, lifeless on the bed.
She froze, her gaze fixed on his motionless form.
“I apologize, Luna; I did my best!” The royal doctor’s apprentice spoke while covering Alpha Damian’s eyes.
Her legs trembling, she slowly backed away before collapsing on the ground.
She crawled to his side and pushed the royal doctor’s apprentice away.
She yanked off the clothes that had covered his body up to his neck, her hands grasping his lifeless, pale fingers.
Tears streamed down her cheeks, her breathing became shallow and slow, and her heart pounded hard against her chest.
Her hands quivered as she clung to his still-warm fingers.
She called, “Damian.”
The room was silent, with only the throbbing sound of her racing heart and the steady breathing of the royal doctor’s apprentice.
When she realized he had left, her body shook and convulsed with sobs.
Her loud cries echoed throughout the room; she arched her neck and buried her face in her lap, still clutching his hand as she cried.
“I am sorry to say this, but the pack members are waiting outside.” A voice came from the entrance, but Luna Mavana was unable to hear him.
Grief and anguish consumed her, and the only sound she heard was muffled because she was already lost.
The sound of her broken heart obstructed her hearing.
A light nudge on her shoulder jolted her out of her funk, and she looked back to see who it was.
“You stupid person, what did you do to him?” She yelled, standing up to the royal doctor’s apprentice, who shifted back in shock.
“You were supposed to treat him and not kill him.” She bellowed, her gaze darkening as she made slow strides towards him.
“What are you talking about, Luna? I just did as I was told. I know nothing…. ” His words stuck in his throat as he realized what he had just blurted out.
” What were you told?” The Alpha’s mother inquired as she entered the room at the same time the statement was made.
Her cheeks were lined with dry tears, as were the unshed tears that welled up in her eyes.
“It was just a slip of the tongue,” the royal doctor’s apprentice explained, his eyes flickering with a nervous smile on his lips.
“Shut the crap and say everything you know right now!!” Luna Mavana ordered, her voice sending shivers down his spine.
“A guard informed me that my presence was required in the palace, and he handed me a bottle containing some liquid substances..
I just did what they said the Royal doctor ordered; the reaction was strange when I injected it into his bloodstream, but Gamma Loan told me to keep going; I had no idea the liquid substance was poison, I swear.” He confessed, his knees collapsing beneath him.
Luna Mavana could not believe what she was hearing: “You mean Gamma Loan instructed you to keep injecting?” She inquired, her heart racing.
“Yes, but I am not sure if he was aware of the content.” He said it with a straight face, and there was no remorse in his voice or tone.
” I felt it, saw it, and chose to ignore it. I said there were five guards, but the Elders insisted there were only four. These stupid old pigs killed my son.” The Alpha’s mother yelled, the weight of her negligence consequences sagging her shoulder; fresh tears welled up in her eyes and flowed uncontrollably.
Luna Mavana, on the other hand, looked over at her mate’s lifeless body, shaking her head with pity because he was not even given the opportunity to mark her before dying.
Her face hardened, and she turned her gaze back to the royal doctor’s apprentice, her eyes blazing with rage.
“They will pay for this treacherous act, all of them involved.” She vowed, her voice tinged with venom.
“Where are the Elders right now?” Luna Mavana questioned, her attention drawn to the Elders because she believed the plan originated with them.
“I-I am not sure, but I think they are outside, addressing the wailing pack members.” He stuttered, sensing the rage dripping from her words.
“Guards,” she yelled, and three guards who had previously tortured Beta Drake of the Crest pack rushed in.
Their heads arched in a bow as they stepped inside.
“Take him to the underground cell, and make sure no one can get to where he is. His life is in your hands, so whatever happens to him.” “I, Luna Mavana, will wipe off everyone in your family.” She ordered. The three guards nodded in unison as they bent over to pick up the apprentice, who was wriggling out of their grasp as they stepped outside.
The Alpha’s mother, still in tears, approached Luna Mavana.
“I am really sorry.” She spoke softly, her lips trembling. “I should have listened to my suspicions, protected him, or opposed the Elder’s decision.”
“It is not your fault, Mother,” Luna Mavana said, hugging the Alpha’s mother.
“I need to step outside, to address the pack members.” Luna Mavana whispered and moved away from the Alpha’s mother with a slight bow.
As she stepped outside, all eyes shifted to her, and the pack members greeted her with a bow.
She furrowed her brow and stepped onto the pavement where the Elders were standing.
She strode up to the Relation and the Civil Elder, her presence commanding fear.
They quickly wiped the slight smile off their face and put on a sober expression.
“We are very sorry, Luna Mavana.” The Relation Elder mumbled in a pitiful tone, but Luna Mavana saw through the ruse.
“Your presence is not needed here; you should be mourning inside.” The Relation Elder added,
The wails of the pack members gradually faded into murmurs as they all wondered what kind of rule that was.
“Silence,” she interrupted, her voice cold and emotionless.
The Elders fixed their gaze on her, stunned by her audacity.
“I will address the pack members and deliver the goodbye speech.” She stated, causing murmurs among the pack members and confusion among the Elders.
The Relation and civil Elders stared at each other, stunned.
The Relation Elder cleared his throat, putting his rage aside as he moved closer to Luna Mavana.
“I am afraid that is not possible,” he replied. “According to the Pack’s constitution, it is the Elders’ responsibility to address the pack and -”
Luna Mavana’s glare silenced him, revealing her rage.
“What if I abolish the law and remove you as an Elder?” Luna Mavana answered.
