“Agnes, where are you? I have great news to tell you!” Ansel was particularly excited and called her as soon as he heard the news.
“Go ahead,” Agnes replied softly, already guessing what it was and genuinely happy for him.
“Such big news must be shared in person! Saying it over the phone lacks ceremony!” His joy and excitement were palpable even through the phone.
Ansel eagerly asked, “Where are you? I’ll come find you!”
Ansel’s voice was so loud that Lisa, who had stopped behind Agnes, could vaguely hear the conversation on the other end of the phone.
So she sneaked out to chat with another man?
“I’m busy right now,” Agnes replied softly.
“Where are you?” Ansel pressed, “At your mom’s or your sister’s place? I’ll come find you. Are you at the office? What’s going on?”
“None of those. I’m at a friend’s house. I have plans tonight,” Agnes emphasized again.
“You can tell me about the award over the phone. Congratulations.”
A friend’s house??
Isn’t it her boyfriend’s house?
Lisa seemed to understand something suddenly. In her red evening dress, she stared at the back of the girl in the black dress in front of her.
After saying congratulations, Agnes hung up the phone and put it on silent mode. Sometimes Ansel really acted like a child.
Sure enough, after she hung up his call, he called again.
Agnes saw it but decided not to answer this time because if she did, he would insist on seeing her.
“Did your boyfriend call?” Lisa asked with a sarcastic tone.
Agnes was slightly startled but quickly regained her composure. She smiled and turned around, meeting Lisa’s large, blinking eyes as if caught red-handed, feeling a bit smug.
“You’re not Tom’s girlfriend at all. Why pretend?” Lisa wanted to find a breakthrough to confirm her suspicions.
Meanwhile, Tom Fritz, who was in the living room playing chess and chatting with his mother, noticed Lisa had gone out to the yard.
He frowned slightly and got up quickly without saying anything to his mother, striding outside.
He was indeed eager to protect his girlfriend.
Agnes saw Tom walking towards them and smiled as she looked back at Lisa seriously.
“I don’t know why you say that, but I understand how you feel tonight. I’m sorry, but no matter how kind I am, I can’t give up the man I love.”
Lisa was infuriated, her face alternating between red and white.
“You’re not good enough for him!”
At that moment, Tom Fritz arrived behind her. He heard what she just said and felt very displeased!
Tom quickly moved to Agnes’s side. When Lisa saw him, she suddenly felt uneasy and inexplicably guilty.
“Lisa, you know better than anyone why you’re here at this manor. This wasn’t my idea,” Tom Fritz said gently.
“This is my grandmother’s doing. Although I don’t know what she told you, my stance has always been clear.”
Lisa understood his stance; his grandmother had asked her to be patient and leave fate to time.
So although she appeared calm, there was a trace of embarrassment inside her.
“But since you’re here, Fritz Manor welcomes you,” Tom Fritz continued hospitably.
“Tomorrow I’ll arrange for my assistant to show you around Arkpool City’s famous sights.”
Then he gently put his arm around Agnes’s shoulders and looked at her indulgently, changing his tone completely.
“Dear, it’s getting windy. Shall we go inside?”
“Okay,” Agnes responded with a smile, cooperating perfectly.
As Tom Fritz walked past with Agnes in his arms, Lisa felt a mix of emotions. A gust of evening wind blew by, making her feel even colder than before.
