“23…”
The old man muttered the number to himself, calculating in his head, “Our Tom is 12 years older than you?”
As he figured this out, the old man couldn’t help but frown.
Even Williams and Jane fell into contemplation; this age gap was indeed… significant!
Lisa smiled as she glanced at the old man, noticing the worry on his face, and secretly felt pleased.
“Grandma, in today’s society, age is not an issue.”
Tom Fritz tightened his arm around the girl’s shoulder. He looked at his parents and reaffirmed his choice, “If there is no love between two people, even if they were born on the same day of the same year, they wouldn’t live a happy life together.”
Hearing this, Agnes felt a moment of daze. How could he be so overwhelmingly confident?
She pressed her pink lips together slightly and turned her head to look up at him.
Seeing his perfectly chiseled profile, with such a serene and handsome demeanor, those pale lips and that gentle, jade-like temperament made her want to take a few more glances.
The old woman’s gaze fell on Agnes’s face; she had always been good at judging people.
The girl was a good girl, just too young, and her profession didn’t match her precious grandson.
“At 23, do you understand what love is?” Grandma asked.
Agnes came back to her senses and looked at the old woman again.
“Grandma, of course I do!”
“Then tell me, what is love?” The old woman turned to Lisa before Agnes could answer.
“Lisa, you first. What is love?”
Finally, it was her turn to speak?
Lisa wore a sweet smile; her big eyes seemed to have layers of eye shadow, fluttering brightly.
“I believe love is love at first sight. It’s the feeling of being moved; it’s wanting to be together and willing to become better for each other.”
Mrs. Fritz was quite satisfied with this answer.
Then the old woman turned her gaze to Agnes.
“What do you think, Bubu?”
“Grandma, matters of the heart are hard to explain with words,” the girl said as she turned to look at the man beside her again.
“Love should be between two people; one person’s feelings don’t count as love.”
This remark subtly slapped Lisa in the face!
Was she saying Lisa was one-sided?
Lisa’s heart skipped a beat. Although she maintained a faint smile on her face, there was a hint of indifference in her eyes when she looked at Agnes.
At this moment, the butler approached respectfully.
“Madam, dinner is ready.”
The old lady snapped back to reality and looked at everyone.
“Let’s go to the dining room. We can chat while we eat; no need to be too formal.”
“Be careful, Grandma.”
Lisa still acted very considerate as she held onto the old woman’s arm, though her red evening dress was indeed quite flamboyant.
As Jane and Williams passed by their son, Jane gave Agnes a gentle look; their eyes met briefly.
Agnes couldn’t sense any dislike from Jane’s gaze.
Since entering the house, Tom Fritz had kept his hand on Agnes’s shoulder. Now he held her as they walked toward the dining room.
For Lisa, seeing Tom care so much for such an ordinary girl made her feel very jealous inside.
But what could she do?
As she had just said herself, love is between two people.
The dining room had a French design with warm tones but minimized traditional French elaborate carvings. It used simple plaster domes that complemented the round dining table and bright tiles, adding layers to the space.
Tonight’s dishes were also particularly sumptuous and exquisite, meeting the standards of a wealthy family’s banquet.
“Let’s sit here, Bubu.”
Tom Fritz was especially attentive, making Lisa envious. Even though she sat beside Grandma, she still felt insecure about her position.
