Lisa didn’t try to guess her grandmother’s thoughts. She affectionately linked arms with her, firmly believing she was the most beautiful leading lady tonight. She planned to accompany her grandmother downstairs and astonish everyone.
Tom Fritz held Agnes’s hand as they walked into the grand, luxurious living room. On the leather sofa, Williams and Jane sat side by side. Hearing footsteps, they looked up at their son and the girl he brought home. The two young people stopped in front of the sofa. Everyone’s expressions were calm, and their gazes converged.
“Dad, Mom,” Tom Fritz began seriously and formally, “I brought my girlfriend home.”
At this moment, the grandmother hadn’t come downstairs yet. Jane smiled and looked at the girl beside her son. With clear, bright eyes and delicate, beautiful features, she gave off a very comfortable feeling.
“Her name is Agnes, but you can also call her Bubu.” Tom released her hand, glanced at her, then put his arm around her shoulder.
Agnes, carrying a heavy responsibility, smiled at the two elders on the sofa and spoke gracefully, “Hello, I’ve often heard Tom mention you both. Meeting you today is just as I imagined.”
Williams looked at her kindly and asked, “How does Tom usually talk about his parents?”
Perhaps he doubted the truth of her words or wanted to know his impression in his son’s mind. In any case, he asked this question in front of his wife and son.
Tom Fritz remained calm. Agnes smiled and replied, “A gentleman with a warm demeanor.”
This eight-character evaluation surprised Williams a bit but also pleased him. However, he didn’t show it; he still sat upright with an air of authority.
Tom Fritz genuinely admired Agnes’s ability to handle the situation. The curve of his lips became more attractive.
“Auntie has an elegant and gentle temperament, like an orchid,” Agnes said as she looked at Jane. “So even though it’s our first meeting, I feel a sense of familiarity.”
“Hello, Bubu,” Jane smiled as she called her name and then glanced at the staircase corner but didn’t see the elderly lady coming down. She thought for a moment and then spoke up, “I have a question for you both.”
“Please ask.”
“Since you are together now, why didn’t Tom bring you home earlier?”
This question made Tom Fritz realize that his parents were suspicious. Agnes turned to look at the man beside her, leaving the question for him to handle.
“Bubu, you answer,” Williams said gently as he focused on the girl.
Agnes’s smile remained sweet. “Because we haven’t been together for long.”
“How long?”
“Less than two months.” As soon as Agnes finished speaking, Lisa appeared at the staircase corner with Mrs. Fritz in a bright red dress. They walked downstairs together.
Everyone in the living room looked up at this scene. Tom still had his arm around Agnes’s shoulder; they stayed close together the entire time, appearing very affectionate.
Tom was satisfied with Agnes’s answer because shortening the time would have confirmed his parents’ suspicion that he had asked her to help out.
Jane was shocked by Lisa’s outfit-why such an extravagant dress? It wasn’t even an evening party. She had even applied glittering makeup that made her eyes sparkle brightly.
