The thing she most feared had happened. She saw the man she liked helping to support another woman. Ying Xiaoxiao did not know how to describe her feelings.
She felt stifled, frustrated, and a little breathless.
Her eyes moistened involuntarily, but she still managed to squeeze out a smile and say, “You two are back.”
Hearing her voice, the two who had been talking softly raised their heads and looked around. When they saw her, they were stunned.
Corey was the first to react. “Why are you here?” he asked in a surprised voice.
Ying Xiaoxiao shrugged. “I called you and you didn’t answer my calls. I thought something might have happened to you, so I came over to take a look.”
“Didn’t answer your calls?” Corey frowned, fumbling in his pocket. He smiled apologetically at her. “I’m sorry. I forgot to bring my phone.”
“It’s okay.” Ying Xiaoxiao smiled, but her eyes were not smiling.
She shifted her eyes to the woman in his arms, a tinge of coldness flashing rapidly across her eyes. There was a derisive smile on her lips. “You stood me up tonight because of her?”
Hearing this, Corey at last remembered his promise. He gave her an apologetic smile and explained, “I didn’t deliberately stand you up. Halle didn’t feel well, so I took her to the hospital and forgot my date with you.”
“Halle?” Ying Xiaoxiao raised her eyebrows, a look of derision hovering in her eyes. “How lovey-dovey, him calling her that.”
Sensing astutely her displeasure, in Corey’s arms, Xu Halle hurriedly shifted her feet sideways, trying to free herself from his embrace.
But she really did not feel well. Her knees wobbled and she reeled. Fortunately, Corey was alert and caught her again. “How are you feeling?”
When she saw Corey’s anxious expression and concerned voice, jealousy and displeasure surged madly in Ying Xiaoxiao’s heart.
Ying Xiaoxiao’s entire countenance fell as she glared coldly at Xu Halle.
Xu Halle grabbed Corey’s arm and barely managed to steady herself. She gave him a weak smile. “I’m alright.”
Then she raised her head, looking into Ying Xiaoxiao’s cold eyes. She was alarmed and instinctively tried to let go of Corey’s arm, but the moment she did so, she found herself lifted into the air.
It turned out that Corey had picked her up by the waist. She watched his handsome face with wide, astonished eyes.
She heard his gentle voice as he said, “Let me carry you in, so you won’t fall again.”
His gentleness made her heart flutter. She lowered her eyelids to conceal the emotions in her eyes and gave a soft, assenting murmur. “Thank you.”
In Ying Xiaoxiao’s eyes, this scene was like a knife stabbing into her heart.
It hurt; it really hurt.
As Corey brushed past her with Xu Halle in his arms, he seemed not to have seen her.
She heard Xu Halle’s soft whisper saying, “Xiaoxiao, I’m sorry.”
“Sorry?”
Ying Xiaoxiao snickered, her eyes full of mockery. She turned and walked towards them.
Corey was struggling to open the door, a key in his hand. Ying Xiaoxiao walked over and directly took his key.
“Let me do it.”
After that, she opened the door. Corey carried Xu Halle in first, while she followed closely behind.
Corey put Xu Halle gently down on the sofa, then he turned his head to look at Ying Xiaoxiao. His slender brows were raised slightly. “Why aren’t you going home? Won’t your father complain about you being out late?”
Ying Xiaoxiao answered indifferently, “What can he say? I will just tell him I was with you.”
Then she walked over and sat down beside Xu Halle.
She looked at Xu Halle’s pallid face and frowned slightly, asking with concern, “Halle, what’s wrong with you?”
