Caras pov
After the “Den” saga, where I was almost caught by the hoodlums. I had dedicated my time and everything to listen to Debby and train under her.
After she accepted to teach me everything she knew about the cupbearers.
Yes, I have accepted Debby being a cupbearer, and I guess I understand her reasons for not telling me.
Surprisingly, I have not seen nor heard from Mark. It was a little weird that he mysteriously disappeared after that night. I didn’t blame him, though, for whatever that happened. It was my fault for taking the “Dens” booze, thinking that I could handle it.
“Cara are you concentrating?”,
Debby’s voice reached my ears, causing me to wince in pain. Ever since the incident that Debby termed as me shedding my omega skin to transition into an alpha, I have been having this overwhelming sensation at times, where it was like I was hearing too much all at once.
And at times, I mistakenly broke a vase with my strength. I have been under training secretly, as I had made Debby promise not to tell brian, and thankfully, she had kept her promise.
“Cara, Cara,” her consistent shouting my name, brought me back thousands of times since today.
“Are you feeling alright? You know you don’t have to do this. You are going a lot right now, and you deserve your rest” she said with pity and understanding look in her eyes.
“No, nooo, it’s fine, I really need this”, I said, motioning to the patient I was treating.
Every day after the incident, i have been helping Debby in the pack clinic, tending to the sick, and sometimes doing some harder stuff but under debbys’ supervision. And I won’t lie it has really helped me from thinking about my problems, especially Brian, who I try as much as possible to avoid anything relating to him.
I had promised myself that I won’t let whatever people think of me affect me again. People like him, and since then, he has not come to the cabin nor check up on me. A part of me is disappointed at the thought that he no longer thinks about me nor wants anything to do with me. Even after trying to convince myself that it was for the best.
“Okay, if you say so, go and wash the medical instruments and dispose of the water” Debby told me what to do before leaving me with the patient
We had just patched up a girl who was severely wounded on her hands when she was training. I have noticed her recently in the clinic coming for one thing or the other.
“So, what’s the story this time,” I asked her about her injuries while giving her finishing touches to her bandage.
“Oohh, it’s nothing, I got it from training,” she said in a hurry, as if it was a normal thing.
“Garreth has been tough, huh?” I asked, propping her
“Huh?… you mean the Beta General?” she asked with curiosity, stammering in her speech.
But I waved it off with a warm smile. One of the things that changed after the incident was my training instructors, from Garreth to Debby, after I accepted to learn from her. Surprisingly, Brian didn’t put up a fight, and like that, Debby took over my training.
“it’s fine. All good,” I said to the girl who was beaming from ear to ear observing her hands. As if her hands were an alien.
“Thank you so much, I have never seen a nurse so gentle as you are” the girl said with looks of praise and adoration in her eyes.
I blushed a little, suddenly feeling a little shy. It’s not every time that you are thanked when you do good for people.
“Than…k you, what is your name?” I asked her. She would be like seventeen to eighteen years old.
“It’s Jessica,” she said, still looking at me with reverence.
“Okay, Jessica, I think you are all done, and in a few days, you should be able to get back to training.” I told her
“Thank you, cara, for everything” she said as I was about to leave the small room
I nodded, watching her leave, joyfully almost bringing tears of joy to my eyes. The satisfying feeling of making someone happy coursed through my body, lifting my mood completely.
I stood outside the clinic, still staring into the thin air before I felt a presence coming towards me even before I turned.
It was one of the nurses, Julian. I remembered she was the one who took care of me when I was rescued from Ryan.
“Hey, I noticed you have been staring out here for a while” she said with a dotting tone.
Ever since I started following Debby to the clinic and started learning the act of healing from her, I have been able to use my powers secretly to mend deep broken bones, and cure some certain inner diseases that ordinary people won’t be able to see, or find out.
It was one of the perks of being a cupbearer, debby had explained to me.
And in so doing , it has made the nurses and many of the patients I had treated to like me the most. always commending me. I had a good relationship with them
“I am fine”. I said, cleaning invisible tears,” it’s just a memory”, I lied. We stayed in quietness for a while before she spoke up
“To be a healer, Cara is not always how people see it, we healers tolerate a lot of stuffs from different people, but we don’t let it define if we should stop or continue to help people”
“The feeling of stopping one’s pain, seeing the hurt and misery disappear in their eyes, seeing them smile again…, that is the true reason why us nurses do our job”
Julian said with a profound look, she was the second most respected nurse after Debby, and even though she is just a normal wolf with no special power, I could tell she is a really talented nurse.
And I respected her for that.
Suddenly, the loud blaring alarm of the mafian wolf pack rang through the pack, catching everyone off guard.
I froze in shock. The noise was too much for my already sensitive ears to handle. I immediately shielded my ears, enduring the excruciating pain. Why was the pack alarm suddenly ringing in the middle of the day? I wondered in shock.
Chaos reigned as the pack turned into a beehive of activities, Julian had disappeared in the middle of the chaos, ordering the nurses to prepare makeshift beds and backing orders like a soldier general. lots of wounded pack members troped in the clinic, causing the air around to be heavily filled with the scent of blood. I spotted Debby and made my way to her.
“Debby, what is happening? Why are there lots of injured pack members?”
“Cara there is no time. Grab whatever you can and just follow me”, she said in a hurry
“But I don’t know…like what is…happening” I asked hysterically.
“We are being attacked” she answered before disappearing down the emergency room.
