Caras pov
The sound of my footsteps echoed throughout the quiet night. I have been running for what seemed like forever to me, but it won’t have passed an hour.
Yeah, I had slipped past the bad guys in the Den using Garreth teachings and training. I have escaped them. I sighed with relief.
The mention of the name of the place almost made me puke at a corner. That place was an infested place, the proper name a slave market. I couldn’t imagine something like this could exist, and no one is talking about it, turning a blind eye as if it’s normal.
I looked around my surroundings, but now the moon was already half gone, signifying it’s late in the night. I staggered like a drunkard. I struggled to get my bearings, but it was like everywhere was doubling in my eyes.
I walked aimlessly and with nowhere to go, everywhere was devoid of people to ask for help. mafian wolf pack was a very big undeveloped pack, which means a lot of back alleys and hidden spots here and there.
I was officially lost.
As I was trying to keep my eyelids from closing in exhaustion, I heard the rustling of leaves nearby, causing me to jerk up in fear.
“Whoops… there” I slurred, still fighting the alcohol in my system.
I waited for a moment, but there was no reply, only the passing sound of rats. I felt relieved, I had thought for a moment that it was the hoodlums from the Den.
The hoodlums, I thought, “Hahaha,” I laughed heretical on the night before I could hold myself, “what did I just do?” I held my mouth in horror, waiting to see if anyone was coming, but no one came.
“I will stay here tonight. Tomorrow, I will ask for help, then sneak into the cabin, with no one noticing” I thought, getting ready to succumb to my tiredness
“Well, well, well,, if it’s not the bitch” a very familiar voice came from one of the darker spots, causing me to jerk up in fright, as I know the owner of that voice.
“I have been caught. They have found me, the hoodlums are here!”
One by one, they appeared, tall, muscular, and bare chested. The guards stood in a single line before the stout man came out from behind, with a twisted smile.
It took a moment for me to make out how horrible my situation was. “But how?”
That was the big question, I had run onto this alley alone. I lost them a long time ago, but surprisingly, I had run straight into their trap.
The stout man, seeing the confusion in my face, burst out in laughter, “hahaha, you think you are smart, running away and thinking I the lord of the Den won’t catch you troublemaker”.
I tried several times to tap from the power inside me, but nothing, it seemed like I encountered a block every time I tried. Coupled with my mind being foggy.
“This is bad” I said to myself, I was surrounded this time for good. Behind me was a dead end and in front stood the man with his lackeys. I was as good as dead meat.
“What do you want, I can give it to you” I asked the man, catching him and his laughing guards off guard, that’s what i wanted, a distraction, as my eyes darted around, looking for a way to escape.
“You!!” the man said angrily this time, ” you can’t fool me twice today and go scot free, I will make sure you suffer for not minding your business. Get her!!”
He commanded his guards, who were now moving forward. My lungs threatened to break through my ribcage. It beat with fear and adrenaline, louder than ever.
“This is it,” I said, bracing myself for what was to come.
I blamed Debby for not telling me someplace like this existed, and Garreth the loyal fool for not having mentioned a word to me, and Mark, even till now I didn’t know where he went, he was the one that dragged me into the Den. I smiled bitterly
But before anyone could make another move, I heard a familiar voice cut through the tension.
“Is there a problem here?”
I turned just in time to see Garreth standing at the edge of the alley, his eyes cold and unyielding as he stared down the man and his guards. The man hesitated, but for a moment before he laughed,
“And who are you, mind your business, you fool”
“Leave the girl alone, and maybe you might have the Jaws to laugh” garreth said in a cold tone that sent shivers down my spine.
“Since you don’t know how to mind you business…” the stout man motioned for one of his men, who ran with blinding speed to meet Garreth.
I gasped in surprise. He was fast, unnaturally fast, and I immediately realised that I wouldn’t have stood a chance, facing one of the talk off four. They underestimated me. That was why I was able to escape.
But to my surprise, Garreth looked uninterested, even bored, even as the sickening crunch of his fist connecting with the first guard Jaws rang throughout the alley, followed by teeth clatter the ground.
Time seemed to stop for the tout man and his lackeys, their jaws dropping in shock.
“He is the beta,” one of them said suddenly, breaking the silence,
“Like I said, this is your last chance before I change my mind” Garreth growled, this time with a ting of his aura leaking out, enveloping the man with his lackeys who were shivering in fear.
“Do you know who I am? You will regret this, I promise,” the man said in a fearful tone, backing away, before disappearing with his lackeys into the shadows.
Garreth walked up to me, his expression unreadable. “What the hell are you doing here, Cara?”
“I…i” I started to explain, but the words caught in my throat. What was I doing here? I had followed Mark, thinking this would be a harmless way to relax and get away from his annoying self, but I hadn’t expected to find myself in a situation like this.
Garreth sighed, shaking his head. “Let’s get out of here before you cause any more trouble.”
But when I stood up from where I was squatting, I suddenly felt lightheaded, causing me to stagger, falling face flat on the hard ground.
But strong arms caught me before I reached the ground, ” what the fuck did you do cara” Garreth cursed in annoyance.
Making me giggle sheepishly, I enjoyed this small victory of seeing him annoyed not that he was angry with someone but annoyed at being in this place by this time of the night.
“I guess I had a little boo.. szz” I said, my voice slurring in the influence of the alcohol.
Looking at him closer he was actually a very handsome fine man, his cheekbone was highly defined, and the way his mouth pouted made him kinda cute.
“I don’t have time to be a babysitter, I’d rather be somewhere else than here looking out for you” he said, hustling me up bridal style,
“You know you are cute, like a cute angry puppy…yes that’s what you are…”
You better stop talking before I do something stupid, his deep voice reverberated inside me, making me giddy like a little girl.
Oohhhh, yes, you are a cut dog, running my hand down his chest. For a moment in my half conscious state, I saw something dark flicker in his dangerous gaze, but I don’t care.
“Where are you taking…me, are we going to your…bedroo…, oohh yes, you are Brian’s loyal…”
I felt something hit my head. The last thing I saw was Garreth panting heavily with confusion on his face as he sniffed the air. before everything became dark.
