Monica’s POV
I sat beside Ethan in his jet but I still couldn’t get over that hurtful and longing gaze that man gave me earlier in the hospital.
His blue eyes were so beautiful and filled with sadness and hurt. Shivers run down my spine whenever I remember the chills I felt when he touched me.
Ethan said he was my husband but ever since I woke up, I didn’t feel any sort of connection with him. Ethan’s touch was empty but that man today who claimed he was my husband had a way of making my heart race.
“Darling,” I said, shifting my gaze from the window to Ethan who wore a charming smile on his lips. His smile was charming but it didn’t make my heart race.
“Hmm”
“That man today at the hospital who is he?” I asked, curious to know about him. There ought to be an explanation for why I felt that way towards someone I believe is my ex-husband
Ethan’s smile slowly disappeared and his brow knitted deeply on his forehead “What about him?”
“Well, he seemed…. off” I said, stammering on my words.
“Forget about him. He is a nobody” Ethan said but I was satisfied with his reply. I wanted to know more.
“Then why was he calling me his wife? Why did he call me honey?” I asked Ethan whose frown became even deeper
“You’re asking too many questions,” Ethan said, his voice sharp and I frowned at him.
Was he hiding something? Was it that hard for him to just give me an explanation? What is there to answer my questions?
These thoughts filled my head as I gazed at Ethan whose frown slowly discipated as he sighed in frustration.
“I’m sorry,” he said but I took my hand from him, losing the contact I had with him before as I stared back at the window with a frown on my face.
“he is_”
“I don’t want to hear it. I’m no longer interested” I said, interrupting him.
“Darling come on, don’t be upset. I just don’t like talking about Nicholas. He has done so much to sabotage our marriage. He is a bad man” Ethan said, explaining further and increasing my curiosity about the man.
“Nicholas is his name?” I asked, looking back at Ethan
“Yes, Nicholas Sterling is his full name,” he said.
“Nicholas said I am his wife. Is that true?” I asked, staring intently at Ethan, searching for the truth in his eyes.
“Of course not. You’re not his wife. You’re his ex-wife. You’re my wife” Ethan said, his tone confident and sharp.
“Then why was he looking so hurt when we walked past him? He looked like he knew me so well and we had a thing before_”
“Darling” Ethan called out, his voice sharp and serious, and when I looked at him, his serious face turned into a happy one “You don’t have to stress yourself over anything about Nicholas. He is your past. Forget about what happened today” Ethan said, staring lovingly at me as he caressed my cheeks with his thumb
“Okay,” I said, faking a smile as I stared at Ethan’s excited face. I leaned back on my seat and focused my gaze on the window, staring at the clouds, lost in thought.
Nicholas’ blue eyes still lingered in my head and the sparks I felt when he touched my hand still lingered in my head. I don’t know why but it was going to be hard to forget about my ex-husband.

“We are finally home” Ethan announced the instant we arrived at the living room, his hands widely opened as he took firm steps forward. “Welcome home darling, welcome back home”
I smiled at his cheerful attitude as I looked around the living room but I couldn’t even remember a thing.
I noticed there weren’t any wedding pictures or any pictures of me and Ethan together.
My eyes scanned the living room and yet nothing. “We don’t have pictures together?” I asked, looking around and trying to see if I could see any pictures.
“Oh that ” Ethan started, his eyes scanning the living room as well “I emmm_” he said again, stammering on his words and I found his behavior strange.
“Where are our pictures? We can’t be married and not have any pictures together right?” I said again but he avoided my eyes and I suspected he was thinking of what to say.
“Ethan, are you back?” Someone yelled from the stairs, carefully threading down the stairs as she walked towards us “What is this bitch doing here?” The lady asked, her index finger pointing at me and her gaze fixed on Ethan
“Bitch?” I said with a frown, staring at the short nightgown she wore
“Oh darling meet, Mia my sister,” Ethan said, forcing a smile and I frowned even more.
“You never mentioned you had a sister,” I said, staring at him confusingly
“Your sister? Are you nuts?” The lady yelled, glaring at Ethan.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mention it, darling. It slipped my mind” Ethan apologized but I was skeptical about what he said.
The lady seemed shocked that he called her his sister which meant Ethan was lying and there was more to the truth.
I just faked a smile and stretched my hand towards his sister “Hello I’m Monica”
“Yeah oh course I know you, you’re my sister,” the lady said and I narrowed my eyes, staring at her suspiciously.
“Sister-in-law” Ethan quickly chipped in “She met you were her sister-in-law” Ethan added.
“Okay it’s nice to see you again sister,” I said and she looked at me in disgust and disdain, refusing to shake hands with me.
My hands slowly fell to my side as I decided to keep my hands to myself.
A memory suddenly hit me like a brick and I shifted my gaze back to Ethan “Where are the kids? Are they sleeping? Can I see them? Are they upstairs?” I aske, excitement seeping into my heart as I imagined how it would be to hold my kids.
“The kids” Ethan repeated, raising his eyebrow as he looked around and scratched his head
“Yes, the kids. Where are they?” I asked again.
“Oh, darling the kids aren’t here. They are at Nicholas’s place. I will take you to them tomorrow” Ethan said and sensed something off about what he said.
Today has been a long day was me and I’ve met so many people that I can’t even remember.
I was exhausted and curious and I wanted nothing more than to lay my head. From one face to another and my head was aching already.
“All right Tomorrow”, I said then took the stairs but paused as I remembered something “Where is my room?”
The look on Ethan” face made me conclude that something wasn’t right somewhere and I was going to get to the bottom of it.
