Monica POV
THREE DAYS LATER
Everything has been going fine and smooth and the doctor said I would get discharged today.
Ethan has been so caring and supportive and I was beginning to get comfortable with him. I was excited to that I was going to see my kids and I was excited to leave the hospital.
“Have you packed your bags?” Ethan asked, intruding into my thoughts as I turned around to look at him
“Yes, I have,” I said, zipping the bag and taking a step to the side so he could see the zipped bag.
“Okay. I’ll carry that for you” he said then took his bag in his left hand and held my hand with his right hand “Let’s go home” he uttered, his voice calm but I could hear the excitement in his voice.
We took the elevator and just as we arrived on the first floor, the elevator door opened revealing two men who stood right in front of the door, staring daggers at Ethan
“You imbecile” a punch landed on Ethan’s cheeks and I gasped in shock, staring at Ethan who was already on the floor.
“Oh my God, are you okay?” I asked Ethan, sqwatting to his side and staring sadly at his mouth which was swollen and red.
Someone grabbed my hand harshly, forcing me to stand up and I shifted my gaze from Ethan to a light-skinned man with blue eyes “Get away from him. He is dangerous” the man said, dragging me from Ethan.
“Get away from me” I yelled, taking my hands off the man’s hand and going back to Ethan to help him up.
“Honey don’t go with him. He is a bad man. You can’t follow him. You can’t be with him” the man said but I ignored him, not sparing him a glance as my heart ached for Ethan who played on the floor in pain
“Darling, are you okay? Should we go see a doctor? ” I asked, staring at him with worry in my face
“Darling?” The man behind me said, his voice slow and filled with shock “Honey stay away from him”
“Monica” I heard someone call and I looked at the man who came along with the man who punched Ethan.
“You know my name” I asked, staring at him in shock.
“Yes. We are friends. I am your husband’s friend”
“He is your friend?” I shifted my gaze back to Ethan and asked.
“No he isn’t” he answered and I frowned. Was this man trying to lie to me? He said he was my husband’s friend and Ethan said he wasn’t his friend so who was telling the truth?
I didn’t care but just helped Ethan up to his feet. “I think you need to treat your wound,” I said, staring at Ethan’s side of his mouth which had a small cut.
“No it’s fine, let’s just get out of here,” he said then grabbed my wrist and I walked behind me.
“Where do you think you’re taking her to you bastard?” The blue-eyed man landed another punch on Ethan but he was quick to dodge.
“She is my wife and we are going back home together,” Ethan said to the man who harshly held my wrist before.
“Your wife,” the man asked, a ridiculous look on his face “Are you okay? You’re taking my wife with you and you’re calling her your wife?” The man asked, glaring at Ethan who didn’t even tremble under his gaze.
“Your wife? I’m not your wife?” I said, staring at him coldly. “Darling who is this man and why is he calling me his wife?” I asked Ethan who wore a smirk on his face but I paid no attention to it
“He is your ex-husband darling. The man I told you about who cheated on you with his housekeeper and_”
“You bastard” the other man who I think is my claimed ex-husband’s friend rushed to Ethan and landed another punch in his stomach.
I walked up to them and aggressively turned his shoulders so he could look at me. As soon as he looked at me, I raised my hand in the air and landed it on his cheeks “Don’t ever hit my husband again. He is not a punch bag” I said, glaring at the man with hazel eyes who stared at me in shock.
“Monica, did you just slap me because of your ex-husband? This bastard who has been nothing but a thorn in your flesh” the man yelled, his eyes filled with hurt and shock at the same time.
“He is my husband and not my ex-husband. That is my ex-husband” I said, pointing at the blue-eyed man who looked at me in shock, standing frozen on his spot
“What has that bastard been feeding you huh? This is your husband and that is your ex-husband” the man said, gritting his teeth and glaring at me “Nicholas fucking say something” the man said, his gaze on his friend.
The blue-eyed man just stared at me with hurt in his eyes. I couldn’t look at him anymore because I felt guilty for some reason. What was the reason? I had no idea. I just felt guilty
“Nicholas” I muttered under my breath and that name rang a bell in my head. I somehow remembered saying that name when I woke up but my husband said the bearer of that name was my ex-husband.
Is this man telling the truth? Was Ethan my ex-husband or my husband? My head had started hurting from too much thinking and I just decided to brush off the thought.
Ethan was the man I knew as my husband and If there’s anyone I should be believing, it should be the man who was by my side when I woke up.
Ethan was the first man I saw when I woke up. He was by my side like a true husband should be when his wife is hospitalized.
If this other man who was claiming to be my husband was my husband then where was he when I woke up? Everything just didn’t add up.
“Don’t listen to them, darling. They are liars and manipulators. Don’t listen to anything they say” Ethan said, standing to his feet and holding my hand gently.
I looked at him and concluded that if there’s anyone I should believe here, it should be Ethan.
“I won’t listen to them. I don’t trust them. I trust only you” I said and carried the bag that had dropped on the floor when Ethan was punched “Let’s go,” I said with a small smile on my face.
We walked past them but just as I was about to walk past my ex-husband, he held my wrist gently, making me pause on my track “Please honey don’t do this. I’m your husband and that man you’re following home isn’t your husband. Please come back to us”
I stared at his eyes and felt a connection to him, a connection I couldn’t understand. I felt sparks and I instantly retracted my hand back, avoiding his eyes. My heart started racing and I felt drawn to my ex-husband.
What was this feeling? I had never felt this way towards Ethan. Why was I still attracted to my ex?
This wasn’t a good sign and I needed to leave as soon as possible. I didn’t like the attraction I felt towards this man.
“I’m sorry but I don’t know you. I’m not your wife and stop calling me honey” I said and held tightly to Ethan’s hands as we both walked out of the hospital, Nicholas’s hurtful look still in my thoughts.
