Nicholas POV
I sat in one of the chairs, my gaze fixed on the theater door that Monica passed through on a gurney.
“Sir you have to eat something and change your clothes,” one of the bodyguards injured when I arrived said with a sharp tone.
I tore my gaze from the door and fixed it on him, worry etched on his face “Do you think she will make it?” I asked, tapping my feet anxiously on the floor.
“Sir let the doctor do his job. Leave everything to the doctor and hope in GOD that she will make it” he said.
“What’s your name?” I said curiously, staring at him with eyes filled with interest. He seemed calm about the situation and I wanted to know how he was doing it.
“I’m Paul sir” he replied.
“Where are you from?” I asked.
“I’m from over here but my dad is from the US” I could see the reason why he was so good at speaking English though his accent was slightly different.
“Do you think her operation will go well?” I asked worriedly, already losing patience and holding myself from barging through those doors and checking up on Monica.
“Yes, I believe it will go well. I believe GOD will make it smoothly”
“GOD?” I asked, shocked by what he said.
“Yes GOD. Don’t you go to church?” He asked.
“No I don’t and I don’t believe in GOD,” I said, getting bored by the discussion. I’ve always wondered why people believe someone or something they don’t see.
“Why don’t you believe in GOD? He is our creator and loves us so much. He_”
“I don’t want to hear it” I yelled, rising to my feet as I stared daggers at him “Where was this GOD when my mom died? Where was he when Monica was kidnapped when she almost died while delivering my kids and when a mysterious tumor suddenly appeared on her brain” I said angrily.
I went to church when I was young but stopped when my mom died.
“Sir I don’t know what you might have gone through in life but GOD never left you. He was always there_”
“Always there to watch me almost lose my wife. Always there and he watched my mum die” I said, cutting his words short “Don’t speak about GOD again” I said sternly.
I walked out of the hallway and made my way out of the hospital. “Where are you going, sir?”
“I’m going to change,” I said and he instantly ran to where I was, walking behind me as we both left the hospital.

“Hello sir, are you ready?” Paul asked the instant he picked up my call on the second ring.
“Yes, I am” I replied. I had left Monica in the hospital and came back home to shower and get new clothes. Throughout the showering, I couldn’t help but think about her.
Were they done with the surgery? Was she awake? Would she remember me? What about I get there and I hear a different story about her?
These questions filled my head and I rushed out of the shower and put on my clothes as fast as possible.
“Should I come upstairs, sir?” He asked.
“I’ll get down soon,” I said on the phone and took the phone from my ear, hanging up the call.
I wore my wristwatch in my hand and combed my hair neatly. I took a last look in the mirror and was satisfied with my look.
I needed to look nice and presentable so that if Monica opened her eyes, she would find me good-looking and attractive.
“Let’s go,” I said and Paul instantly started the engine. I boarded the car and he started moving to the hospital. Seeing the shops across the street, my eyes caught a flower shop.
“Stop” I ordered, my gaze fixed on the flower shop I saw. The thought of getting flowers for Monica passed my head and I decided to get one. I needed to impress Monica. “I’d love to get my wife flowers,” I said and stepped out of the car.

“Such beautiful flowers. I’m sure Mrs Monica would love them” Paul said, a smile across his lips as we both stepped out of the shop.
“Sorry,” I said as I bumped into a man dressed in a black hoodie and trousers. He just turned and continued walking, not saying anything.
Just as I was about to take a step forward, I saw a knife on the ground and I suspected that it was his “Hey you forgot this” I said and the strange man instantly around, walking towards me again.
He grabbed the knife without a word and walked away. The strange part was the black gloves he wore. He looked suspicious and strange.
“Who was that?” Paul asked, his face on the retreating back of the man
“Just some strange dude who bumped into me and dropped a knife” I replied and his eyes widened in fear.
“A knife? Sir, are you hurt?” He asked, his eyes roaming my body.
“I’m fine,” I said, shifting my gaze from the strange man to Paul “lets get going,” I said again and we both highlighted the vehicle, making our way to the hospital.

It’s been forty minutes since we arrived at the hospital and Monica still wasn’t out. I sat on the chair, my gaze on the door as I awaited the nurse or the surgeon to step out but no one did.
“Was a brain surgery this long? I hope she is okay” I muttered under my breath as I sighed in exhaustion.
Soon I saw some men walking toward me with large steps and I wondered who they were.
One of the men stopped in front of me and showed me his ID card, saying something I didn’t understand.
“Was? Wie?” I looked at Paul in confusion. His eyes held shock and fear.
“What is it? What are they saying?” I asked, panic seeping into my heart as I stared at the three men who had handcuffs in their hands.
“They say that you’re under arrest for murder”
“What!” I exclaimed, staring at Paul in disbelief. “Murder? I didn’t kill anyone” I said but Paul was just speechless.
The men just came behind me and put the handcuffs in my hand.” let go of me” I yelled but they paid deaf ears.
Just then, Monica was being rode out of the theater and I stared at her pale white skin “My wife, I need to be with my wife until she wakes up” I said, half begging and half yelling as they rode Monica in a gurney past me.
Paul said something to the men and they replied. I hated the fact that I couldn’t hear what they were saying.
I was supposed to be by Monica’s side. I wasn’t supposed to be in handcuffs. I didn’t do anything.
“They said you have to follow them to the station,” Paul said, his eyes filled with shock, fear, and confusion.
“But I didn’t do anything. What am I being arrested for? I need to be with my wife. She needs me. I need to stay by her side”, I said, and Paul spoke to them again but the look in their eyes told me they weren’t going to listen to him.
They began dragging me out of the hospital like a criminal. I struggled to stay behind, my eyes fixed on Monica.
Tears filled my eyes as I saw the nurse ride Monica around a corner while the men dragged me out of the hospital.
I promised her I was going to be by her side when she woke up. I promised to be the first face she saw and I even bought her flowers. How do I get the flowers to her?
“Monica” I yelled, struggling to get myself off the hold of these unknown men who dragged me ruthlessly out of the hospital
