Monica’s POV
It’s been thirty hours since I last spoke with Uncle Karl, Aunt Ella, Fiona, Anthony, and Mom. It was hard making this decision but I decided to go ahead with the surgery.
Fiona was right about one thing. I was going to lose my memories but I was still going to be around the people I created those memories with and who knows, I might regain my memories.
I sat on the white sheet hospital bed in a blue dotted pattern hospital gown as I wrote in my book.
I was going to have the surgery in less than two hours now and I knew the fate that awaited me so that’s why I’ve decided to write about everyone and everything I know.
Dear Monica, if you’re reading this, it means the surgery went well and you lost your memories. You wrote this down when you were in the hospital so you could remember those who you love and those who love you.
Firstly, don’t treat Nicholas like a stranger when you wake up. He is your husband and the best any woman can pray for. You have two beautiful kids who have beautiful blue and gorgeous eyes.
Writing the last part about Mason and Macy’s eyes just made me smile as I remembered my kids.
I still wasn’t comfortable with the fact that I was going to forget everyone around me but I’ve come to you accept it. I stared into thin air as I thought about what I should write again and something dropped in my mind.
Three people you should stay away from are Ethan your ex-husband, Mia your stepsister and ex-husband’s mistress, and Greg, your husband’s brother. They are all dangerous and are after your life.
Aunt Ella and Uncle Karl are people you can trust. Anthony is your husband’s best friend and lawyer and he is also someone you can trust too. His wife Fiona is also a good person and your friend.
Lastly, again, don’t forget Nicholas your husband. He is the father of your kids. His parents are late but he takes Uncle Karl and Aunt Ella as parents. He is very rich and loves you so much. Love him back and stay very close to him. He cares for you and will never hurt you. You can ask him for anything.
I hope you treat our husband with love and care.
With love, Monica.
I sighed in relief as I stared at the book with sad eyes. I hoped my future self would treat Nicholas and learn to love him again.
“Hey I brought you the ice cream you said you wanted” Nicholas walked into the room, turning around and using his left leg to shut the door.
I quickly hid the book under my pillow as soon as I saw him. I didn’t want him to know what is was doing because I was somehow embarrassed about it. If he saw the book, he would read it and tease me.
“Thank you,” I said, every sadness in my body evaporating and running out the window as I saw the man who had always been by my side.
“Tasty?” He asked.
“Yes,” I replied, leaning and placing a kiss on his cheeks “Thank you,” I said again.
“You do know that you’re not supposed to be taking ice creams right now,” Nicholas said, his gaze fixed on me
“Yes I do but I can’t help my cravings. I want ice cream” I said, and he looked at me worriedly “Don’t worry too much, I’ll be fine,” I said.
“How are you feeling about everything? Are you ready for the surgery?” Nicholas asked, worry etched on his face as he gazed at me with a mix of sadness and deep affection
“I don’t want to go ahead with him but I have to. I have a turmoil of emotions in me right now. I feel sad and nervous and scared and_”
“Everything is going to be fine. We’ve come this far baby. We came this far because we were strong together. Thank you for taking this surgery. It meant so much to me” Nicholas said, his thumbs caressing my cheeks.
I closed my eyes to his touch, trying to memorize his touch. If there’s anything I can’t lie about, it’s Nicholas’s touch. I will always yearn for and enjoy his touches.
I held tightly onto Nicholas’s hands as the nurse rode me on a gurney to the operating theater. “I’m scared honey,” I said, my heart racing against my chest as the nurses rode me faster.
“Hey, no need to be scared. I’m going to wait here until you wake up. I’m here for you. Just relax and think about me. Don’t think about anything else but me” Nicholas said, walking beside me and following the nurse who rode me on the gurney.
“Promise to be by my side when I wake up?” I asked, tears gathering in my eyes.
“I promise,” he said, wearing a sad and weak smile.
The nurses suddenly stopped and said something to us, his gaze on Nicholas but we couldn’t understand because they weren’t speaking English.
“What did she say?” Nicholas asked the bodyguards who walked closely behind him.
“He said you can’t move past this red line. That you will have to wait here” the guard interpreted and figured this was the time to say goodbye.
“I’ll see you soon. If you’re scared think about me” Nicholas said then leaned forward and pressed his lips against mine, a passionate soft kiss filled with so many emotions I couldn’t even explain.
As soon as he raised his head, the nurse started the gurney again and our hands lost connection. I felt a sense of loneliness wash over me as they rode me to my room and placed my bed under a very bright light.
“Handschuhe und Anasthesie bitte” I heard the doctor say but I couldn’t understand anything he was saying.
He turned to me with a bright and comfortable smile on his lips “Hello Mrs Monica. I’m the surgeon that’s in charge of your operation today. Please relax and don’t be scared” he said and I was shocked that he could speak English so well.
Soon I felt a sting on my wrist and I knew I had just been injected. My thoughts drifted to Nicholas and I couldn’t help but smile at the funny memories that came to my mind.
“Nicholas” I whisper under my breath, trying to memorize the name in my head “Nicholas,” I say again, my eyes becoming heavy, forcing me to close them “Nicholas” I whisper again, centering my thoughts around the man who has been nothing but supportive.
