Cara’s povs
Alpha Alexander emerged from the darkness, his eyes blazing with fury.
He was the one that saved me from the feral rogue leader, but…but how did he know that we were outside here, or was he following us…
Alpha Alexander’s silhouette fully came out of the darkness. He had shifted back into his human form. Only spotting a trousers with no top, his bare, well sculpted chest on full display as the moonlight illuminated his sharp features.
I could see his tattoos snaking up his muscular arms and chest, almost as if they were moving on their own. For a second, our eyes met, and my heart skipped a beat. There was something raw and intense in his gaze, but it quickly faded when he turned his attention to his sisters.
“What were you two thinking?!” Alexander yelled, marching over to them. “You could have been killed!”
“We were just training,” Emily muttered, looking down at her feet. “We didn’t know there would be rogue wolves so close to the border.”
“That’s not an excuse!” he shot back, his voice laced with disappointment. “You both know the rules. You’re not supposed to go near the borders for any reason!”
He then turned to Emily, and his voice dropped, becoming even more dangerous. “And you, Emily, you know better. You put yourself, your sister, and Cara in danger. I’m beyond disappointed.”
I stepped forward, unable to watch him scold them any longer. “It wasn’t their fault,” I said quickly. “I’m the one who dragged them out here. Blame me, not them.”
Alexander’s piercing eyes shifted to me. “This has nothing to do with you, Cara. They know the rules. They chose to disobey.”
“But they were just trying to show me around. I insisted on coming,” I argued, trying to take the blame. “I didn’t want to sit around doing nothing.”
Alexander stared at me for a moment, and his expression softened just a little. “You’re trying to cover for them,” he said quietly, as if he could see right through me.
I swallowed hard, refusing to look away. “Maybe I am. But it’s the truth. Don’t punish them for trying to help me.”
He studied me for a moment longer, his eyes searching mine before letting out a frustrated sigh. “Fine,” he muttered. “But this is the last time. Understand?”
Emma and Emily nodded eagerly. “Yes, Alpha,” they said in unison, their voices trembling.
“Good. Now, get back to the packhouse. Both of you,” he ordered.
They glanced at me with grateful smiles before rushing off, leaving me alone with Alpha Alexander let out a deep breath after the sisters left, his shoulder slagging, he seemed down, like somebody that had a lot on his plate. The anger had faded from his eyes, replaced by something else. something I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
“Having to look after two sisters can be a hassle sometimes,” I said with a nervous laugh, trying to lighten the mood.
“What are you talking about,” he asked with a serious look on his face.
“I didn’t get to have any sisters but know that they love and adore you, they couldn’t wish to have a better brother and Alpha except you, you are doing great” I said coming closer to him.
I thought he would mask his feelings like how alphas do. They think showing how you feel is a weakness. but I was not ready for his next words.
“Being with them I must admit is a lot, and the worst thing is I don’t know what I am doing, whether I am training them well or I am caging them the most,” he said with a low voice.
I smiled. The feeling of not knowing if you were doing enough was all too familiar to me.
“You are doing great,” I said, giving him a smile.
“Thanks , cara”
I nodded. We stayed like that, with only the silence of the night. This was a rare moment, especially for someone like him. He needs to savor the moment.
“I know what you did” he began after a short quietness, jarring me out of my thoughts.
“Huh, what do you mean”
“You trying to cover for them, there is no way you could be so reckless like that”
“Then you don’t know anything about me then” I said
“Do I…” he suddenly looked up, staring at me with an unreadable expression, but I stubbornly refused to back down.
“Yes” I said in defiance
“You shouldn’t have been out here,” he finally said, softer this time, breaking eye contact. “It’s dangerous.”
“I can handle myself,” I replied, but the tremble in my voice betrayed me. The adrenaline was fading, and reality was starting to set in. I had been so close to death, and I wasn’t sure how I managed to defeat that rogue leader, if not for the powers… they had returned at the last moment, but I couldn’t let Alexander know that.
“You fought well,” Alexander said, taking a step closer. “Much better than I would expect from someone who’s just started training.”
I shifted uncomfortably, hoping he didn’t notice how tense I was. “I got lucky,” I said, trying to shrug it off. “The training sessions with Emma and Emily have been helpful.”
He gave a small, amused smile. “You’re stronger than you realise, Cara. And braver than most Alphas I know.” His gaze softened, and I could see something in his eyes that made my heart race even faster. “You don’t hide your feelings, and you speak your mind. That’s rare for an Omega.”
I looked away, unable to handle the intensity of his stare. “I’m just trying to survive,” I mumbled. “I’m not brave.”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” he said, stepping even closer. I felt his hand brush against mine, and a shiver ran down my spine. “You’re one of the bravest people I’ve ever met.”
I opened my mouth to say something, anything, to break the tension, but no words came out. The silence between us grew heavier, and I felt my heart pounding in my ears. I couldn’t deny that his alpha’s aura was messing with my senses. It was normal. He was an Alpha, and I was just an Omega. His strong will was influencing my own, trying to bend it unconsciously.
I stepped away from him, trying to create a little space between us as my senses were going overdrive, not to talk of my wolf that was already screaming in my head to submit.
“Look at me,” he whispered, lifting my chin with his finger. “You don’t have to be afraid.”
“I’m not,” I lied, my voice barely a whisper. “I’m just…”
“Just what?” he asked, his voice softening even more. There was something vulnerable in his eyes now, more complicated.
“I’m just trying to figure things out,” I admitted. “I’ve a family I am looking for, that and other complicated things, I just don’t want any other distractions.”
His hand held mine, and for a moment, even as I tried to pull away. He only tightened it the more. “Cara,” he began, his voice trembling slightly. “I know we’ve only just met, but… there’s something about you. I can’t stop thinking about you.”
My breath caught in my throat. “Alexander…”
He shook his head, cutting me off. “No, let me finish,” he said. “You’re not like anyone I’ve ever met. You’re strong and stubborn, and you have this fire inside you that I can’t ignore.
” I… I like you, Cara. More than I should.”
