Chapter 425: Helping Out

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-11-6

Nelson stayed with Callie for a day, during which he didn’t handle any business affairs.
Most of the time, Callie lay in bed watching movies, with the curtains tightly drawn. Nelson held her by his side, occasionally glancing down at her focused expression, his eyes filled with infinite tenderness.
At one point, Callie’s phone rang. She kept her eyes on the movie and nudged him. “Can you get that for me?”
The phone was on the bedside table. Nelson lazily reached for it and unlocked it, seeing an email that read: “Hello, congratulations on passing our second interview. The third interview is scheduled for Monday at 10 AM. Please be punctual.”
Nelson’s expression darkened slightly. She didn’t notice anything amiss and didn’t look up. “What is it?”
The man put the phone back and pinched her full cheek. “You’re looking for a job.”
It was a statement.
Callie paused mid-bite on her chips and half-joked, “I still want to stay in the industry. Just hope Mr. Oconnor won’t cut off my path.”
Nelson eased his grip, his gaze distant as he watched the movie. “Which company do you want to go to? I’ll arrange it.”
“No need, I can manage on my own,” Callie said sincerely. “After all, I got into Oconnor Group by my own ability.”
Now that she was Mrs. Oconnor, it wouldn’t be right to use privileges; it would be embarrassing.
“Up to you,” he said in a lower voice, his tone particularly prominent against the movie’s narration.
Callie didn’t continue the conversation. He got up and left the bedroom to make a phone call, the details of which were unclear.
After a while, Nelson returned with his phone in hand, wearing casual pants and looking especially gentle and calm. He suddenly asked, “Did you come with Mrs. Gamble?”
“Didn’t you see?”
“Do something for me tomorrow,” he said, lighting a cigarette. “Bid on an item, and don’t worry about the price-just make sure to get it.”
“What is it?”
It was a clock with some years on it, likely costing at least eight figures. Nelson showed her a picture. “It was one of my father’s collections. After he died, it circulated around and only resurfaced this year.”
His father… That made it very significant. Callie took a deep breath. “I might not be able to do it.”
Nelson lazily held the cigarette in his mouth and ruffled her hair. “I believe in you.”
“And you?” Callie asked.
“I have a meeting.”
Nelson was attending an event at an international forum, not far from the auction site, with many media present.
Stacks of A4 papers were filled with dense new regulations for the year.
The scene was chaotic, with many reporters sitting on the floor, quickly browsing and summarizing the information into concise text for the public.
Marilyn, an employee of Vanco, was among them.
She wasn’t particularly noticeable but caught the eye of someone observant.
Finally having a break, Kieran tested Nelson’s limits by pointing in a direction. “A beauty like jade, and you can bear it.”
Nelson glanced over briefly before withdrawing his gaze with a hint of warning. “Watch your mouth.”
So Kieran could only pity Miss Ellison.
Marilyn was clearly there for Nelson, but his attitude remained lukewarm over the years, warranting pity.
Nelson knew Marilyn was present but focused on their respective duties without paying much attention.
During the intermission, the secretary was busy running errands and was stopped by a woman who used a pen clip to hold back her bangs, looking somewhat comical.
