OLIVIA
“So what do we know? I am running out of options to decide. My head’s blank right now. I don’t want him to hurt you. Everything seems to be happening so fast. Do you want to go back home to your husband, or would you rather spend the night with me?” Adrian asked me.
“I honestly can’t answer that. It’s rather complicated. What do you think? I want you to be honest with me. I would surely respect your decision regardless of how it turned out.” I asked Adrian in return and placed him in a difficult situation.
Deep down, I know he was hoping I would stay behind. I could see it in his eyes. Adrian is scared to admit it to avoid sounding too selfish. He loved my company as much as I enjoyed his. Unfortunately for us, Cyril has proven to be the stumbling block.
“I don’t know what else to say. I am equally confused as you are.
I just don’t want to be the reason Cyril would be mad at you. My conscience would haunt me for the rest of my life. I do not want that to happen.” Adrian said with a low tone. He was already feeling guilty that the whole thing was his fault. If this isn’t the perfect description of a perfect Gentleman, then I don’t know what else it is anymore.
“Don’t worry about my husband. He knows I stepped out anyway. Going home tonight won’t stop the impending storm lingering around my household. I would be thrilled to spend the night with you.” I assured Adrian and allayed his fears.
“Are you sure about this?
I honestly don’t think this is a great idea.” He freaked out. I thought he could handle the situation. It turned out I was wrong.
“Absolutely! I know my husband more than you do. You have to believe anything I say to you. And please, can you stop blaming yourself like a kid? It’s irritating.
You didn’t do anything wrong. It wasn’t my fault that I married a jerk. It’s my cross to bear. I guess I just have to deal with it for the rest of my life. I already accepted my fate. This is life punishing me unjustly,” I added. I was a bit sober, yet tried to appear cheerful. I wanted Adrian to see me as a strong, resilient woman.
It was supposed to be a dinner date and not a mourning ground. I also considered how long it took for me to apply makeup that complimented my skin tone. My tears could ruin it.
“Okay, If you insist.” He rolled his eyes. He wasn’t pleased with the way things turned out.
I was done with his righteousness. I wanted him to be ruthless towards me. I wanted him to act like Cyril doesn’t exist because that’s precisely what Cyril would do if he was in my situation.
“Should I speak to Cyril myself? That would be a great idea. Perhaps, he would listen to me. What do you think?” Adrian suggested. I bet he didn’t even think about the question. He was just curious to help out and didn’t realize how baseless he just sounded.
“Hell no! That’s not happening.” I fumed.
“What would you say to him? Did you realize how dangerous that is?
Cyril isn’t aware that I’m here. Calling him equally means that you’re inviting troubles to yourself. He can’t stand a cheating wife,” I cautioned Adrian and warned him about Cyril’s rage.
“I can’t believe this is coming from you. You’re still going to defend him after everything he’s done to you? But it’s fine if he cheats on you with other girls, right? Can you even listen to yourself speak? Does it even make any sense to you?” Adrian said disdainfully and looked sideways as though nothing happened.
I thought he was making sense until he allowed the spirit of Cyril to possess his body. How he found out about Cyril’s infidelity wasn’t clear to me. I wasn’t inclined to ask him, either. He may have spotted Adrian with some mystery Lady before.
“Like seriously Adrian?
I should have known that you invited me over just to insult me. Let’s pretend this meeting never happened,” I lamented. I was about to return to my car when he stopped me. He held the door to prevent me from going in.
“Let go of me.
I want to leave,” I cried and struggled to get him off the way, but he was too strong for me.
“I’m sorry for saying too much. I admit that I was wrong. I went out of line by making a travesty of your marriage. Trust me, it wasn’t intended. I was just looking out for you. I am not thrilled seeing you go through this. You deserve the best life can offer you,” Adrian apologized. He swept me off my feet with his captivating words.
If there’s one thing I can’t take away from him, it’s his aura and charisma. That’s something Cyril would never have. Rather than apologizing for his flaws, he would rather stay mute.
I turned my focus to Adrian. I would rather not do that at first. I had fallen for him helplessly. Staring at him in the eyes worsened it. He had total control of my body, heart, and soul by just staring.
“Take me to your home,” I muttered succinctly. That was the last thing I said.
“As your lordship pleases,” Adrian bowed as though I was some princess. He understood the assignment and didn’t even argue with me.
“Please drive,” I told him immediately, we got inside my car. My head has been pretty messed up lately. I am most likely to shorten our lifespan if I go behind the wheel.
Here we are now.
Welcome to my paradise,” Adrian announced as we pulled up to what seemed like the king’s castle.
“You’re not pulling my legs, are you?” I stayed back inside the car to narrow my gaze around. I needed to be sure that I wasn’t in heaven yet.
Just when I thought I was filthy rich. I had no idea that I was going to meet someone a thousand times richer like Adrian.
