“Yes, she has a daughter, and she’s beautiful,” Lion said, looking at Johnny.
“Didn’t you know?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Johnny stood up abruptly with a bang, knocking over the cup on the table, which shattered on the ground!
“She has a child! She actually has a child! Are you sure?!” Johnny felt his mind go blank, as if struck by lightning over and over again, charred on the outside and tender inside.
Could things… not be as he imagined?
“I’m sure she does, what’s up? Tell me already!” Lion was really hanging by a thread with anticipation!
He had thought introducing Rosalind to Johnny might help him figure some things out, but instead, it ended not on the best terms, and he still knew nothing!
“How old is her daughter, do you know?”
“About… two years old.”
Johnny’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
Two years old…
Then it definitely wasn’t Ulric’s.
They had been separated for four years already, with no contact in that time, as Ulric had tried many ways to find out about Rosalind, all without success.
Johnny suddenly went from his agitated, incoherent state to deflating like a frostbitten eggplant.
“Two years old, so what? Are you trying to kill me with suspense?”
Johnny waved his hand and took a deep breath, “You know Ulric, right?”
“Of course! Who doesn’t know the CEO of W Group? Could it be…”
“You’re thinking right,” Johnny nodded, looking at Lion.
“Rosalind is Ulric’s ex-girlfriend, no, his ex-wife.”
Though he hated to admit it, Ulric had indeed married Rosalind.
Lion furrowed his brows, “So why did they get divorced? Did Mr. Walters cheat?”
“It was Rosalind, she fell in love with someone else!” Johnny couldn’t help but defend his good friend.
“Ulric ignored his own parents for her, and then she just left him, saying the pressure of being with him was too much.”
Lion didn’t respond.
In his eyes, Rosalind didn’t seem like the type to do such a thing.
She took her job seriously and wasn’t the type to shrink back from problems. The pressures of her job alone were immense, having worked her way up from a background-less clerk to where she was now; what could be more stressful than that?
Unless it was some other kind of “pressure.”
“Mr. Walters’s parents didn’t approve, did they?”
“Yeah,” Johnny nodded, “Given Rosalind’s status, nothing to her name, the Walters family definitely wouldn’t approve. They just saw her as someone trying to climb the social ladder.”
Lion guessed as much.
This was a common scenario in high society.
Every couple trying to break through class barriers faced this problem, especially a family as prominent as the Walters, not recognizing Rosalind’s status was understandable.
“Rosalind isn’t the type to trade love for money.”
“I know that too.”
Johnny understood all sides of the matter clearly, but still… he really felt Rosalind had been too heartless.
“So what surprised you about Rosalind having a daughter?” Lion suddenly put the pieces together.
“They were married, after all. I thought Rosalind’s daughter-”
“Rosalind’s daughter’s father is Ulric?”
