Marilyn had spent several days organizing the interview and sent it to the printing press overnight. By the next evening, the interview with Nelson was published citywide, drawing significant attention.
Her excellent work earned her praise from her superiors, but her sudden prominence also sparked resentment among many colleagues. She made numerous enemies who tried to undermine her, but Marilyn never retaliated because she didn’t care about such matters.
The Oconnor Group’s towering buildings were filled with talent, and Nelson, who managed so many people, was always a cut above the rest. He was different from ordinary people. She needed to grow stronger to stand by his side.
She couldn’t just be the eldest daughter of the Ellison family.

Callie’s job applications went unanswered, but she wasn’t in a hurry. She spent most of her time with Reuben.
When she had free time, she accompanied him to the hospital for check-ups. Tobias said he was recovering well; rehabilitation was tough, and reaching this point wasn’t easy. Callie was pleased to hear this.
“By the way, the medical team Nelson sent has left,” Tobias suddenly mentioned.
Callie recalled their last unpleasant encounter and paused, “That’s good.”
Tobias twirled a pen, looking somewhat awkward, and gave a bitter smile. “Actually, half of your father’s recovery is thanks to them. They dedicated nearly a year of their time and effort to him.”
She understood the implication: Nelson had put in a lot of effort.
“I see.”
After that night, the photos hadn’t been leaked. It was clear that Nelson had intercepted them.
As they left the hospital and reached the lobby entrance, someone suddenly called out, “Mrs. Oconnor.”
Callie froze and turned around with Reuben, seeing the elegant Mrs. Gamble approaching with a joyful expression. “What a coincidence meeting you at the hospital. What brings you here?”
Callie forced a smile, “This is my father. I brought him for a check-up.”
Mrs. Gamble seemed to understand partially and glanced at Reuben with a peculiar expression. Reuben took the hint, “Callie, I’ll wait for you outside.”
“Okay.”
After Reuben left, Mrs. Gamble pulled her aside and asked, “What’s going on? Your servants didn’t come with you?”
The class difference was particularly evident upon seeing her. Callie pressed her lips together, “I can manage on my own. What brings you here, Mrs. Gamble?”
Mrs. Gamble casually complained about her recent health issues and then suddenly asked, “There was quite a stir recently about you and Mr. Oconnor. How are things now? Have they calmed down?”
Callie hadn’t expected so many people to know about it and felt a bit embarrassed. She said it had somewhat settled down. Because of the previous incident with Lucia, Mrs. Gamble had a good impression of her and took the opportunity to say, “In a few days, there’s a week-long charity gala in Ylosea. Many prominent figures will attend. As a family member, will you go?”
“I won’t go. I don’t like those kinds of events.”
“Don’t be like that,” Mrs. Gamble shook her head at her reluctance. “Staying out of the fray won’t win a man’s heart. You might not know this, but the eldest daughter of the Ellison family is back. She used to covet your Mr. Oconnor the most. This charity gala will undoubtedly involve them, and there will be much talk in social circles.”
Callie could tell Mrs. Gamble was trying to help her out of goodwill, but if winning a man’s heart required competition, what was it worth?
She shook her head, “We’ll see. I don’t want to expose myself right now.”
If Marilyn saw her, she wouldn’t be able to maintain control.
