Chapter 418: They Are Impossible

Marilyn was packing her things, ready to leave in despair, when she saw the imposing man.
He walked with steady steps, his face immaculate, followed by a group of people. His slightly raised eyes cast a chilling glance.
In front of him, Marilyn seemed very petite.
She looked at him with surprise, joy, and fear in her eyes. Her voice softened but remained composed, “Nelson, I’ve been waiting for you.”
The gentle call was extremely tender.
No one expected Nelson to come back specifically for this little researcher.
Nelson glanced at her and then walked forward to open the door, instructing the others, “You all get out first.”
Everyone left, but not without giving Marilyn a curious look before they did, finding it unexpected.
Marilyn quickly followed Nelson, feeling a resurgence of hope in her heart.
Behind him, she spoke timidly yet carefully, “Nelson, I thought you wouldn’t come back.”
Nelson always kept his thoughts hidden, his expression unreadable. He looked at Marilyn with indifference, “You should know that I’m not here to talk about this.”
Marilyn tilted her head in confusion, “I don’t understand. I’m here to interview you on behalf of Vanco.”
“Those photos were taken by someone you hired.”
Marilyn’s face darkened immediately, “What photos?”
Nelson just examined her under the light.
“Marilyn, I hope you know your limits.”
Marilyn’s smile slowly faded, “Nelson, I really don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Nelson poured himself a glass of water, the droplets cooling his lips.
She stepped forward, “Nelson, I know my affection for you has caused you trouble. I’m very sorry, but I can’t control myself. I just want to stay by your side. I can wait for you.”
She laid her feelings bare before him without any pretense.
Nelson found it amusing, “Wait for what? What makes you think you have that right?”
“Because you came today.”
The man looked into her eyes, seeing all her panic and uncertainty. He made it clear.
“We are impossible.”
The simple words shattered all her feelings.
Marilyn almost cried.
“You should have known we were impossible when you went to London.”
She held back her tears, the clear liquid hanging in her eyes. She forced herself to stay calm and said, “No matter what, I came here with a task today. Since you promised to accept my interview, I believe you won’t break your word, right?”
Shifting the topic to work was indeed clever of Marilyn.
The interview ended at three in the morning. The rain outside had tired and finally ceased.
Nelson left decisively. During the interview, his attitude was indifferent; he answered every question. He gave her this courtesy, and his answers were exclusive. The newspaper would surely sell well tomorrow morning.
He seemed lazy and relaxed, but beneath it all was an underlying indifference.
Nelson didn’t care about Marilyn.
At most, he softened his heart out of a shred of sentiment.
But his resolute departure left no room for retention.
Marilyn stood still, her eyes narrowing involuntarily, filled with calculation and resentment.
