Chapter 248 The Furious Lewis!

Book:Back To Thrones Published:2024-11-6

Kayden didn’t respond to Wood’s question. To him, talking too much now would be pointless. His priority was to heal Wood! Maybe curing Wood would uncover some information about that mysterious organization.
Of course, Kayden needed to recover at least half of his abilities. Without regaining that much strength, he wouldn’t be able to cure Wood.
Outside the door, Lewis was growing restless. Kayden and Sariah had been inside for over half an hour!
This was unacceptable to Lewis!
If there truly was a special relationship between Sariah and Kayden, he couldn’t say anything, but he couldn’t help thinking-was it necessary for Kayden to act so inconsiderately?
Being alone with her for such a long time under my roof in front of so many people, was an outright insult to the dignity of the Henderson family!
How was this any different from bullying the weak? I was an old man, and who knew how many years I had left? If word of this got out, the Henderson family’s reputation would be ruined!
The more Lewis thought about it, the more unhappy he felt. Yet, the more he fumed, the less he could do.
“What do you think Miss Faulkner is doing in there with that Defender?” Alex asked Seth in a low voice.
Seth’s eyes flickered as he replied, “Miss Faulkner is so beautiful. If you were alone with her, what would you most want to do?”
“Obviously, I’d fuck her! I wouldn’t waste a single minute.”
“You’re a man, and Defender is also a man, right? What do you think he’d do?”
Hearing this, Alex’s eyes widened, and he fell silent.
Everyone knew the implication, though no one dared to say it aloud. Finally, the two cast pitying glances at Lewis-they truly felt sorry for him!
Greedy Wolf stood guard at the main entrance, facing the door. He knew that Defender would never engage in anything inappropriate with Wood. No matter how beautiful she was, it simply wasn’t possible. Wood was Defender’s subordinate, and they had endured life-and-death experiences together amidst the chaos of wars. Defender was an extremely disciplined man and wouldn’t cross such a line.
Greedy Wolf had absolute confidence in Defender.
However, just because Greedy Wolf thought this way didn’t mean others did. He glanced over at Lewis and the two, Seth and Alex, who were squinting and frowning.
Greedy Wolf thought, Defender is still young, lacking social experience. He doesn’t understand how much people’s words can harm him. If rumors of this spread, it would affect his reputation. For a man hailed as the War God, to be rumored to have done something inappropriate with his amnesiac subordinate-it would be an unimaginable humiliation for Defender.
With this in mind, Greedy Wolf stepped forward, preparing to knock on the door to remind Defender. But just as he was about to knock, the door opened.
Kayden emerged calmly from the room, with Wood following him. Her face was flushed as she lowered her head, looking shy and demure, as though something secretive had just happened.
“Defender!” Greedy Wolf hurried forward, giving Kayden a once-over.
Kayden nodded in acknowledgment and then spoke to Wood, “I’ll be on my way now. Let me know if you need anything.”
“Thank you for your help, Defender,” Wood replied warmly to Kayden.
Kayden said nothing more, giving Lewis a nod before leaving the Henderson residence with Greedy Wolf. He paid no attention to Lewis’s dark expression. He simply didn’t care what Lewis thought.
Wood escorted Kayden to the door and, once there, made sure to tell him, “Dr. Scott, if you need anything, just say the word. I’ll be there anytime.”
Upon hearing this, Lewis’s look grew even colder. This was practically ignoring his existence, saying she’d be there anytime… such blatant disrespect! Lewis was simmering inside. This hurt worse than a slap in the face. Kayden was indeed powerful, and having him at his house should have been an honor for the Henderson family.
If Kayden were involved with one of his daughters, Lewis would have celebrated it, even begging Kayden to marry her. This alliance would have brought endless honor to the Henderson family, securing their standing.
However, Sariah wasn’t his daughter and she was his daughter-in-law. Kayden sleeping with his daughter-in-law was a completely different matter. She was an outsider who’d married into his family. Lewis would gladly offer his daughter, but never his son’s widow. No man could bear his woman being with someone else-even if Sariah wasn’t technically his woman, she had been his son’s.
Even though Lewis’s son had passed, for Kayden to have sex with Sariah within the Henderson residence was an outright affront to the family’s dignity! This showed no respect for a powerful family’s authority. Even a cornered rabbit bites back, and as the family lead, Lewis couldn’t just let it slide!
If it had just been physical, perhaps he could have turned a blind eye, but now there was also the close eye contact between them, with Sariah gazing at Kayden affectionately. Who would believe there was nothing between them? Certainly not Alex or Seth, who exchanged knowing looks, glancing instinctively at Lewis.
And just then, they noticed Lewis staring back! Quickly, they looked away. They didn’t dare offend Kayden, but neither could they afford to cross Lewis!
Once Kayden had finally left, Sariah reluctantly returned inside. The moment she stepped back, Lewis’s expression darkened further. After dismissing Alex and Seth, he returned to the living room and called Wood to join him.
Seated in the patriarch’s antique wooden chair, with “Henderson” engraved upon it, Lewis’s presence was solemn. His face was a mask of fury as he asked in a severe tone, “Sariah, what exactly went on in that room with Defender?”
Sariah’s face stiffened slightly at the question, and then she countered, “What do you mean by that? Are you accusing me? Do you think I’ve done something to betray the Henderson family?”
Lewis’s initial anger softened just a little, and he let out a deep sigh, saying, “I only wish you would show some self-respect! You must always remember, you are my daughter-in-law, Sariah Faulkner.”
Wood laughed bitterly. “Self-respect? I never realized you saw me this way. Fine! Think whatever you like. It’s pointless to explain myself if you’re so determined.”
Lewis’s expression shifted, and he continued, “That’s not what I meant. It’s just that the rumors outside are intolerable! The Henderson family is, after all, a reputable family. How can we allow such gossip to sully our name?”
“There has been gossip from the beginning. If you care so much about public opinion, why did you insist I marry into your family in the first place? Lewis, don’t forget, when I married your son, he was already dead!”
