It was too late for those on the upper levels to give much thought to the collective silence that followed Paige’s cry, counting down thirty counts in their minds.
Enrico stood in the room, his face hard to see.
Rachel slumped down, feeling the silence of the moment, and she let out a low laugh.
How could people be saved, they all had to die, all of them.
Three.
Two.
One.
The people on the upper level moved, the two rooms on the lower level shook wildly from the fluctuations, and Rachel was thrown back and forth against the walls of the realm, her stomach turning over and gushing wildly, a mouthful of blood spewing out of her mouth, and a headache so intense that she wanted to explode.
Enrico was also unable to stand still, one hand on the wall, people slipped into the corner.
In the other room, Jasper was tied to a chair, slightly opening his eyes, he watched the room in front of him hanging in the sky, the cold temperature made him as in an ice coffin, lifeless.
In the darkness of space, Blanca begins to sink faster and faster, getting closer and closer to the gears.
The accelerating gears are like flesh-eating beasts, already opening their bloody mouths.
Paige and Brangelina ran forward recklessly, their faces as expressionless as ever, but their feet didn’t hesitate for a second, precisely following the same route, pushing against the mirrored doors.
The entire underground space shook violently.
Far away, there were screams coming from the distance, cries of people trying to save each other.
“Give me your hand! I’ll pull you up!”
“Don’t give up! It’s over if you fall!”
“Come up! Come up!”
The people were all forcing their way through the mirror wall, groping for the edge to climb up amidst the violent shaking, and some of them didn’t have enough stamina, so they had to wait to be rescued by those who went up first.
As everyone was desperately trying to rescue them, they saw two slender figures swoop out from the side, grabbing the thick rope that went down vertically and plunging down.
“Sister Paige–” the six members of the Peak Club who had just climbed up shouted out loudly at the sight.
There were no shortcuts on the path to the lower levels, only the tedious engineering structures laid out outside the rooms and labyrinths, which were intricately constructed inside, so that one mistake would be the end of everything.
Panicked, the six slumped over the edge and peered down, only to see the two of them plunged into endless blackness for a split second, with only two thin lights shining, but also shining further and further away.
The watch on Paige’s hand had its own torch light function, while Brangelina was holding Paige’s cell phone in her mouth, and using its flashlight to shine a little light in the darkness.
Unable to see in the pitch blackness, this little bit of light is of minimal use, and both of them are left to fumble around with their understanding of the design plans.
Descending, leaping nets, going deeper.
Two minutes later, the two jumped to one side of the stone wall, their backs against the cold stone wall, their hands against it, their feet only halfway solid.
Beneath their feet, the loud sound of gears coming from the empty darkness, as if a giant beast was whimpering, ready and waiting to devour everything …
“How are you doing?” Paige looked aside to Brangelina, who had only just come to her senses and was definitely not as fit as she had been.
Brangelina leans her head back against the stone wall and takes the cell phone out of her mouth, panting heavily, “My martial arts skills weren’t as good as Blanca’s once upon a time, and they’re even worse now, but don’t worry, I won’t hold you back.”
Paige nodded, then adjusted her stance to stand a little steadier, then hung the end of the rope coiled around her waist from a fixed mechanism position on the stone wall.
Whether or not they could survive depended on whether or not they could accurately grab the rope and climb up in a moment.
The rope was from the cabinet in the main control room, and the quality was unknown.
Seeing this, Brangelina took a deep breath and followed her example, securing the rope.
Paige held out her hand and peered down through a little thin light.
Brangelina followed suit and looked down.
The black space in front of them was filled with countless little organs flying around, quartering the maze close and far away.
And just below their feet, two suspended rooms were shaking violently.
Further below, huge gears were already nearly engulfing Blanca’s feet.
Blanca, doomed to die in this place.
“…”
Brangelina looked breathless.
Suddenly, her hand was held.
Brangelina stiffened, turned her head, and saw Paige looking deeply at her, her voice slightly deep, “Don’t you die.”
This place, there was no room for the slightest mistake.
At those words, Brangelina’s breath slightly converged, smiled, her gaze penetrated with love, “Do you want to call me an aunt? It’s not for you to recognize THE Folsom family, it’s just to recognize me, do I deserve it?”
“…”
Paige watched her silhouette blur in the darkness with some bemusement, surely she was the smartest of women, and really knew how to “take advantage of a fire.”
Paige paused before speaking solemnly, “Aunt Brangelina.”
She never complained to Brangelina.
At the sound, Brangelina froze, then smiled a little deeper, “Hey.”
Blanca, did you hear that?
The Folsom family is sorry for this child, and you can’t wait for understanding, but at least, my sister got this cry, which is a kind of indirect acknowledgement of this child’s relationship with you, and it’s time for you to be comforted.
With that in mind, Brangelina gripped her hand tightly, “Go.”
Paige took her hand and the two of them stared evenly ahead.
As the small organ turned in front of them, the two jumped forward without thinking, their hands separating as each departed with the organ.
Paige’s grip on the small parts of the mechanism that were working was so tight that her arm was scraped raw and her palm was bleeding from the abrasion.
Not caring about the pain, she clutched the mechanism and lifted her off-air feet upward, finally allowing herself to climb to the top.
The mechanism turned two rooms above.
Brangelina pulled out the gun Paige had given her and shot the top of the room directly above her.
“Bang.”
The roof of the room is punched with gaping holes.
Brangelina leaps down into the shaking room.
Before leaping down, she subconsciously looked toward Paige, who was not far away.
Paige also shoots at the roof of the room Enrico is in, but not just once, but several times in a row.
The roof wasn’t an important part of the organ, so it wasn’t sturdy, and after a few shots, a small part of the wooden roof fell off and hit the floor of the room.
Dim light filtered through.
Paige stood on top and just watched as Enrico stood against the mirrored wall, glaring up at her with eyes as hard as if he was going to eat her.
Both rooms were descending rapidly.
Paige looked at Enrico from top to bottom, looking deep into him.
I have to admit, Enrico is still handsome when he’s angry.
She thought, and with a sharp removal of the rope from her waist, she threw herself down through the gap in the roof, then jumped only to the dark center between the two rooms as Enrico looked on in shock.
“Paige, what are you doing?” Enrico yelled out.
The speed of the fall Paige had experienced before, that time she had fallen off the snowy cliffs of Eastdown in front of Blanca, flying so fast she could feel death so deeply.
This time, on the other hand, she was in the dark.
Paige could feel the chill of the wind, and by instinct, she grabbed a handful of the thick rope in the center, and still the person kept sliding down.
The palms of her hands were abraded with a tearing pain.
