Hearing Callie Pearce’s words, Flynn’s expression grew even more solemn.
Countless clues intertwined like a tangled ball of twine, overwhelming his mind.
Suppressing his frustration, Flynn began to analyze slowly.
Previously, he knew two forces were after his mother-the Clark family and the King of Poison’s faction.
Now, a new player, the Wakasa force, had emerged.
Which side did they belong to?
Or did they operate independently?
Even if the ancient medical texts were invaluable, it wasn’t worth the King of Poison’s backers deploying a hundred Grandmasters to intercept his mother.
Their motives were loftier.
It must be for the Heaven’s Punishment Ring, or something else.
The Clark family? Unlikely.
With the Clark family’s power, crushing Matteo Kaur, an ordinary man, was as easy as stepping on an ant, with no need for external forces.
Thus, the Wakasa force was likely only after the ancient medical texts.
The people of Wakasa were inherently greedy, prone to stealing and looting.
Their actions were unsurprising.
Unfortunately, they had made a grave mistake.
Flynn would not let go of anyone who had pursued his mother or harmed a benefactor!
Ostrad’s traditional medicine was like a precious gem, and given the nature of the Wakasa people, they definitely still had spies in Ostrad, bound to slip up eventually.
This was a score Flynn planned to settle slowly.
“Callie Pearce, is that all the information the old man had?” Flynn asked.
Callie Pearce nodded, “That was all he discussed with Matteo Kaur.”
“He left after saying, ‘I will watch over your safety from the shadows,’ and departed from Ravenwood Court.”
“As for whether the old man had any contact with Matteo Kaur over the next year, I do not know.”
Flynn frowned slightly, a trace of difficulty flashing in his eyes.
According to witnesses, the old man must have had direct contact with his mother and surely knew of her whereabouts.
Finding this man would be a significant breakthrough.
But Matteo Kaur, concerned for Flynn’s safety, was reluctant to reveal any past events, even when Flynn asked.
This was problematic.
As they reached the summit, they arrived at a flat area over ten acres large, filled with bamboo forests.
Scattered tourists frolicked among the bamboo.
Callie Pearce thoughtfully suggested, “Mr. Clark, there’s a pomegranate grove to the south of the bamboo forest. I tried some a few days ago-they were particularly sweet. I’ll go buy some for you.”
“Sure, the Mid-Autumn Festival is the perfect time for ripe pomegranates,” Flynn agreed with a smile.
After Callie Pearce left, Flynn opened his phone, looked at Matteo Kaur’s number, and hesitated before finally calling.
“Flynn, are you trying to kill yourself by calling? Buzz off!”
The call connected, but Paulina Johnston’s low, angry scold came through.
Flynn’s expression cooled, and he said sternly, “I need to speak to Uncle Matteo, hand him the phone!”
“Matteo Kaur is unwell and asleep from heart discomfort!”
“Heart discomfort? What’s going on? Isn’t he on medication?” Flynn asked worriedly.
“The medication is indeed good; Matteo Kaur should recover in ten days without issues.”
“But you, you instigator, are you hoping Matteo Kaur dies?”
“Listen Flynn, the Kaur family wants nothing to do with you. If you want Matteo Kaur to be well, then stay away from us, disappear completely!”
Paulina Johnston, worried about disturbing Matteo Kaur, took the phone outside, where her temper fully erupted.
Flynn’s brow furrowed deeply, his eyes frosty as he said, “Make yourself clear, when did I upset Uncle Matteo?”
“You didn’t upset Matteo Kaur? What about what you did yesterday?”
“Go ahead and die if you’re seeking death, but why involve Matteo Kaur?”
“You should have died at Cloudgate Mountain, end of story! Stop causing trouble for Matteo Kaur every day!” Paulina Johnston raged, her voice thunderous.
Understanding flooded Flynn, along with a deep sense of guilt.
“Then I’ll come now, and once Uncle Matteo wakes up, I’ll help him with acupuncture, ensuring…”
“Shut your mouth! What did I just say? Disappear from our lives forever, never to see each other again, are you deaf?”
“Come try it, if I don’t hack you to death with a knife, then my name isn’t Johnston!”
Paulina Johnston cursed, her voice fierce and terrifying.
She was utterly sick of Flynn.
If it weren’t for Flynn barging into their lives, Madeline would definitely have married a wealthy suitor, enhancing her financial prospects and benefiting the Kaur family’s fortunes.
She had just recently managed a divorce, hoping Madeline would marry Nathan.
But Flynn kept interfering, which was infuriating!
Indeed, in Paulina Johnston’s eyes, Flynn’s making trouble at the Stewart family and visiting her in the hospital was all to find a chance to reunite with Madeline.
He deserved to die!
“Mom, what are you doing? Why are you so angry?”
As Paulina Johnston continued to shriek, Madeline’s voice came through the phone.
“Who else could it be? That worthless fool, he still has the audacity to show his face at our home!”
Hearing this, Madeline’s expression darkened. She took the phone and said, “Flynn, do you know that Layla has secured a hundred billion dollar investment, thinking Rose will surely go bankrupt, and you’re considering coming back to the Kaur family?”
“But even if you come back to the Kaur family, we can’t protect you.”
“You’ve caused too much trouble, offended too many people, especially Lilia and Layla. As soon as they take over the Sharp’s Group, you’ll be the first they come after.”
For two months, Flynn had been reckless, using resources given by Nathan to flaunt himself before Lilia, who had tolerated him for a long time.
Once the hundred billion dollars is invested, Nathan will certainly let go, and by then, Flynn will be doomed-anyone who helps him will be too!
Flynn was stunned by this, then scoffed disdainfully, “A hundred billion dollars? So what? Just because Lilia has that much money she can win?”
“I’m telling you, she will lose, and lose miserably!”
Madeline shook her head, resignedly saying, “Flynn, do you know why I divorced you? Because we have nothing in common, you understand too little.”
“Don’t think that just because the Sharp’s Group has two Ancient Formulas, you can rest easy.”
“If Layla shorts the Sharp’s Group’s stocks, you definitely won’t be able to withstand it.”
“As for what ‘shorting’ means, I don’t have time to explain it to you, look it up yourself.”
“Just remember one thing, no matter how good your products are, in the end, business battles boil down to capital!”
“Continuous capital flow is the ultimate weapon to crush anything!”
“Madeline, why are you telling this scoundrel so much? Give me the phone!” Paulina Johnston snatched the phone, addressing Flynn:
“Flynn, I’m saying this one last time, if you have any conscience, stay away from the Kaur family.”
“And don’t interfere with Madeline’s future! She’s already found someone she likes, who has helped her several times, someone far better than you!”
“Even if you kneel at the Kaur family’s doorstep for a month, Madeline will not remarry you!”
“So give up already!”
Flynn chuckled coldly, “The person you’re referring to is Nathan, right?”
Silence fell on the other end of the line.
Paulina Johnston and her daughter were stunned, not expecting Flynn to know!
“That’s right! It’s Nathan, so what? He likes Madeline, and she likes him too. I advise you not to cause trouble for Nathan, or you’ll die even faster!” Paulina Johnston threatened.
At this point, she felt there was nothing left to hide; with Rose going bankrupt soon, Nathan would clear everything up, and Flynn was as good as dead.
Besides, she had heard that Nathan had arrived in Niarak yesterday, bringing several Grandmasters with him.
What could Flynn do, confront Nathan? He could have a Grandmaster finish him off in minutes!
“I won’t go after him, I just want to ask one thing-are you sure you never want to have anything to do with me again?”
“You’re sure you’ll never kneel and beg me in the future?” Flynn asked with a cold laugh.
