That unasked question soon found its answer as Patrick Connor arrived with his car and walked straight to the stage where Adrian was seated as the chief mourner.
“Fake, everything you’re doing here is fake and pure pretence. What do you think by erecting a mourning hall for Ava Leon you could silence the raging of your conscience? Spending so much to showcase the degree of your pretentious life” he bellowed.
His eyes are puffy and red. His complexion turned reddish for fury as he glared at Adrian. The latter was quiet and said nothing. He tried to be calm but he couldn’t, as his uneasiness gave way and he stared at Patrick with moist eyes.
That made Patrick Connor to chuckle aloud. Everyone present was surprised. Patrick Connor had been Adrian Lester’s friend for many years.
Richard walked over to ask Patrick to step aside and let Adrian give his wife the last right and respect he could give to her when Patrick lost his calmness.
“I can’t believe that you will be a part of this pretence sir? You knew that Adrian hates Ava so much that he could run her over with his car if no one would be a witness to it. You knew he openly acknowledged his mistress more than the innocent woman, Ava.
How can you not say anything to his stupidity? He threw her in jail and got a restraining order to prevent anyone from seeing her, not even her parents because he blindly believed that Ava wanted to kill grandfather.
Did you even know that Sam Leon died at Adrian’s feet because of his inhumanity and wouldn’t listen to his pleas to save his daughter? That man died in your Lester mansion.
And this son of yours, who suddenly wants to give his rejected bride a befitting burial and spending so much to erect a sophisticated mourning hall didn’t even spare Ava a thought to let her off and bury her father?
He wasn’t at the funeral of the man who fathered his suddenly beloved wife and neither did he pay Clara a visit. Your son is responsible for Sam and Ava Leon’s death sir!” Patrick Connor blurted.
Richard’s complexion went pale. He couldn’t say anything to all that Patrick said because even Adrian could not debunk it. So Sam Leon died before Adrian?
He didn’t ask for the details of it. But never expected it to turn out this way. He glanced at Adrian and for a long time, couldn’t shift his gaze away from him.
He heard the murmurings of people present. No one will ever approve of Adrian’s actions and attitude. He feels like they all would leave the mourning hall soon.
“Clara is in shock, is all your doing Adrian Lester. If that woman dies, I’ll know that you are responsible for the complete eradication of Leon’s family. And now, you are free to be with Lola Carrero.
Go ahead, announce your engagement amidst this period to prove to everyone in New Jersey that you loved Lola Carrero and the woman who stood between you both, have been murdered by you.
You killed Ava Leon and her father, Adrian Lester. You’re a broad day murderer. Karma will catch up with you and you will pay for all you’ve done..” Patrick Connor seethed and walked away from the mourning hall.
As he stepped out, one after the other, everyone followed. In no time, only the faithful employees remained and his bodyguards. Richard Lester turned around and left as well.
While this was going on, Ava Leon was lodged in a presidential suite in New Jersey. She didn’t know how the plot went but didn’t expect that in less than 24 hours, her appearance would have changed.
That night, Luna Wesley stepped out to relieve herself and she saw someone come to tap her “Someone wants to see you. Hurry up”
She didn’t think anything was off, because the fellow was dressed in the same uniform the officers wear. She followed and she was taken to pass through an unfamiliar route.
Two men took over from there and led her away into a car. An expensive Rolls Royce. At that moment, she was scared. Had Adrian sent people to murder her?
“How are you doing sister?” A deep masculine voice brought her out of her reverie. She turned back and saw two men standing, looking really charming and cute.
She’d been told that someone was coming to see her. She didn’t know who that person was. She’d been treated like a princess since the past few hours that she arrived at the suite.
Never had she sat down on such an expensive sofa before besides the Lester family. But the men who brought her always bowed to her before saying anything and never forgot to use the word “ma’am” in everything she said or answered.
But seeing these two men standing, smiling broadly and exchanging glances with each other, she became uneasy. But she seemed to be familiar with them. Had she met them before, somewhere?
“Good evening sirs” Ava said, fiddling with her fingers. Are they the ones who came to save her from prison? Why are they doing her any favours, to get back at Adrian Lester?
“My name is Santiago Blake” he said and drew closer to her. Ava stepped back and Santiago paused.
“And I am Jimmy Blake, the second son of Simon and Nancy Blake. I’m a lieutenant and I have come from X-city to get our sister who is presently in New Jersey” he said and drew closer to Ava.
Ava didn’t step back this time. She stood firm. She wants to know what these two brothers want from her. If he came to get his sister, how is that her business?
Anyways, she’s grateful that she’s out of jail. She would prefer if they go straight to the point as she’s not interested in anything else but why they saved her.
Jimmy was walking round Ava Leon in a circular motion, while Santiago remained at a spot smiling and impressed with his brother’s approach. No wonder these military men can sometimes get close to an enemy through subtlety.
“My name is Ava Leon. Were you responsible for me getting out of prison? If yes, why did you do it?” She asked, waiting patiently for the man who now walks around her in a circular motion to answer.
“Ava Leon…hmmm…you think” he muttered. She thinks she’s Ava Leon. She can be Ava but now, she isn’t going to be a Leon anymore. She’ll be Blake.
“What do you want?” Ava demanded, her gaze fixed on the man Santiago. If this man wouldn’t answer her question, the one over there should.
“Nothing, besides taking you home to dad and Mom. They are waiting to receive you” Santiago replied.
Ava chuckled. What are they saying? Her dad is dead and her mom cannot afford a single sofa in that suit. How can she hire these men to bring her home?
Even if the men are good Samaritans and did it for free, can her momma stand Adrian’s wrath when he knows what happened?
That devil of a husband!
