Ava waited but Adrian’s hands never descended on her chin. Eventually when she opened them, he was glaring at her and he turned abruptly and was about to leave.
“Hurt me as you want, but don’t touch my parents” she requested. Just what kind of a man is Adrian Lester? Good looks, but bad heart.
“You’re not in any position to tell me what I will do. As long as my grandfather lies on that hospital bed, your lives will be miserable” he declared and walked away.
That made Ava sad and she sobbed. Adrian Lester is going to hurt her parents. Her dad was already feeling so sickly and his heart is almost failing completely and he wants to hurt him and hasten his death?
He could vent his anger on her, she’ll take it. One day grandfather will be fine again and he will be able to tell everyone what happened exactly. Her hope is hinged on grandfather’s quick recovery, thank goodness that he was not dead.
Meanwhile Sam Leon’s health had greatly deteriorated. The doctor said he has just a few weeks to live, probably less than a month. It’s been four days now, since the doctor informed them.
His last days on earth were all he was living in at the moment. But he desires to have his daughter by his side for the rest of his last days. He had been feeling an unexplainable worry in his heart.
Is Ava alright? Is she doing fine? Why hadn’t she called to check on him? It’s unlike her. She would call her mom every day and ask after him. He would always hear her worried expression carried in her voice and words whenever she does that.
He would always smile and tell her he’s doing fine. He would be alright even if he knows there’s no assurance for him that he would get better. But four days have passed now, and Ava didn’t check on them.
And now that his days are getting close to its end, he wants to see her every single day, he wants to keep his gaze on her when he closes his eyes to this world so that he would always remember the face of his dear daughter when he opens them in the other world.
“Call Ava for me, I really want to hear her voice” Sam Leon requested. He couldn’t bring himself to do anything besides talking faintly.
He is worried about her. If she’s alright and everything is fine, she would have called them. She wouldn’t have been able to sleep without hearing that he is fine and still alive.
Was he wrong when he kept his promise to the Lester family? He didn’t force his daughter on them, the old patriarch approached him and requested that the young fellas be allowed to get married.
Having a cheating husband is definitely going to be a problem for Ava in her matrimonial home. He prayed to the Almighty that he always gives his daughter happiness always.
“I’ve tried to place a call across to her but she’s not answering her phone. It’s been two days I’ve been doing that and no response and she didn’t call back” Clara Leon finally voiced out her worries.
She didn’t want to tell her husband in order not to get him worried because of his health, but now that he asked her to call their daughter, she has to open up to him.
“Why didn’t you tell me that Ava is not answering her phone?” Sam Leon asked, now his fears were getting confirmed. Ava didn’t call and wouldn’t answer her. And to add more chilli to the sore, she wouldn’t call back.
Has something happened to his daughter?
“I don’t want to bother you because of your health,” Clara explained. Somehow she’s become restless too. If her husband now sounds the way he does, it means he is troubled within, like her.
“My health meant nothing to me if anything happened to my daughter. Ava is my life. If anything happens to her, my life will be ended before it’s due date” Sam Leon declared in a shaking voice. His body shivers and his complexion now pale as if drained of blood completely.
“Our daughter will be fine. I will call the phone in the Lester family and I’m sure Anna or any of the servants would answer it” Clara suggested.
Nothing should happen to Ava otherwise Sam would die and she would be bereaved of her husband so early. Sam and herself love their daughter so much.
Clara dialled the Lester family phone and it rang twice, no one answered it. She gave up but Sam said she should keep calling until someone answers it and tells her that Ava, her daughter, is fine.
She kept trying it until eventually, Anna answered the phone. She knew Ava’s family would want to hear about their daughter’s well-being.
“Hello, this is Lester’s family,” Anna said as soon as she answered the phone.
“Hello, this is Clara Leon, Ava’s mother…” She was still introducing herself when Anna interrupted her sharply, “What can I do for you?”
Clara was taken aback by the question. There isn’t anyone in the Lester family who wouldn’t know that Ava Leon is Adrian Lester’s wife. That way, she should be acknowledged when she said she’s Ava’s mother.
“Who am I speaking with?” She asked. Perhaps it’s a guest who answered the phone. She doesn’t want to assume that the voice was familiar and she could readily conclude that Anna Lester answered it.
“This is Anna Lester on the phone. What can I do for you, Clara Leon?” Anna asked, irritatingly. If grandfather hadn’t sold them out so cheaply, how dare this filthy thing call their family phone number?
“Anna, this is me Clara. I want to speak with my daughter” Clara requested. She could perceive the disdain in the other woman’s tone. She knew it’s her, yet she was asking her what she wanted.
What else is there in the Lester family that she wants other than to hear about her daughter’s well-being and that she’s fine? She has never crossed her boundaries because she’d know Anna Lester to be disrespectful.
“Your daughter no longer lives here. We can’t harbour criminals in our mansion” she informed and hung up. How dare they ask that murderer from her?
“What did she say? Did she say Ava is fine and probably busy that’s why she hadn’t reached out to us? What did she say?” Sam Leon asked, his hands shaking and he tried to lift himself but he couldn’t.
Clara turned to glance at her husband but she found it difficult to tell her husband, Anna Lester last words before hanging up on her.
“Talk to me, Clara?” Sam demanded agitatedly.
