As the motorcycle approached at high speed, Daniel quickly reflexively pushed Emily to the side, sending both of them flying. They both fell to the ground from the push. The man in black quickly left with his friend, who had almost hit Emily earlier.
After falling to the ground because of the sudden push, Emily and Daniel felt a cold gust of wind that pierced to the bone on the deserted street. However, while lying on the cold ground, a miracle suddenly happened to them. Their previously separated souls finally returned to their respective bodies. A strange yet miraculous sensation enveloped their bodies.
“Are you okay?” a middle-aged man’s voice rang out as the two of them fell to the ground.
Emily tried to get up and look for the source of the voice. Finally, she saw Daniel’s personal driver standing near to them, looking at him anxiously. “Is Miss alright?” he asked.
Miss? Am I not in Mr. Daniel’s body right now?
Emily finally realized the changes in her body. “It’s… I’m back in my body again,” she murmured in surprise at the sight of her soul returning to her body.
As Emily looked away, she saw Daniel, who had fallen beneath her, facing the consequences of the powerful thrusts Daniel had made while in Emily’s body earlier.
“Oh my God, Mr. Daniel. Are you all right?” asked Emily in a worried tone, watching as Daniel tried to get up.
“I’m fine,” Daniel replied weakly as he tried to stand up. He also realized that both of their souls had returned to their respective bodies.
Apparently, this is what can make our bodies come back, Daniel thought to himself.
He checked the clock on his wrist, which showed 22:00.
“Sorry, Miss and Mr. Daniel. I was too late to save you,” said Daniel’s personal driver in a regretful tone, while giving Daniel help to stand up.
“I was calling someone I know, so I didn’t see what happened to you,” Daniel’s personal driver explained, his voice full of explanation and regret for what had happened.
Emily, with a panicked look on her face, noticed the wound on Daniel’s arm that the impact on the ground had injured. “Your arm is injured,” Emily said with concern in her eyes, showing her genuine concern for Daniel’s condition.
“It’s just a small cut,” Daniel replied nonchalantly.
The three of them finally stepped into the car with Daniel’s personal driver opening the car door for them.
“Where are we going, Mr. Daniel?” Daniel’s personal driver asked.
“Look for the nearest inn around here,” Daniel replied in a calm voice.
“Yes, sir,” Daniel’s personal driver replied, ready to fulfill Daniel’s request.
“Sorry, sir, for saving me, you got hurt,” Emily said, feeling guilty for Daniel’s injury.
Their car couldn’t go very far because of the snowstorm that had hit, limiting their ability to continue their journey. Eventually, they could only find one small motel near the road they were on.
As Emily and Daniel got out of the car and entered the small motel, the owner greeted them.
“Welcome. Is there anything I can do for you?” the owner asked kindly.
“Give us two rooms,” Daniel said firmly.
The motel owner looked a little stunned. “I’m sorry, sir. But our rooms are full and only one room is available.”
“What? Only one?” Emily confirmed her hearing again, her eyes searching for reassurance.
“That’s right, only one,” the motel owner replied in a low voice.
“Give us that room,” Daniel said in a firm voice.
“Okay,” the motel owner replied as he gave them the room key.
As they were about to leave, the motel owner said in an unexpected whisper, “If you need, I also sell condoms here.”
Emily’s face instantly turned red, feeling surprised and embarrassed at the unexpected words from the motel owner. Meanwhile, Daniel’s face remained calm and cool, as if unaffected by the embarrassing situation.
“No need, thank you,” Daniel said.
“Do you have any medicine here? Or wound ointment?” Emily asked the motel owner.
“I think so. Just a moment,” replied the motel owner as he moved behind the reception desk.
The motel owner took a wound ointment from the shelf behind the reception desk and gave it to Emily.
Emily accepted the ointment with gratitude. “I’ll return it later,” she said with a small smile.
Emily and Daniel entered the motel room they had booked earlier. They immediately felt the cold air of the room and quickly turned on the heating to create a more comfortable atmosphere.
The room only had one bed in the center of the room. The room itself was not big, with simple walls and dim lights that created a rather gloomy atmosphere.
Emily stood in the center of the room with a confused expression on her face. With only one bed in the room, she found it impossible to sleep on the same bed as Daniel.
When Emily saw the scars on Daniel’s arm, she felt an immediate sense of concern. Without hesitation, she approached Daniel, who was sitting on the sofa near the bed, and took out the wound ointment given to her by the previous motel owner. Gently, Emily lifted Daniel’s arm to treat it.
“What are you doing?” asked Daniel in surprise when he saw Emily lifting his arm.
“I just want to treat the wound on your arm,” Emily replied nervously.
“There’s no need. It’s just a small wound,” Daniel refused firmly.
Despite Daniel’s firm refusal, thinking the wound was trivial, Emily was persistent and insisted on treating the wound.
“Let go of me,” Daniel said firmly.
As Daniel swatted Emily’s hand away with a little force, Emily lost her balance and staggered backwards, almost falling over. Without hesitation, Daniel grabbed the back of Emily’s head reflexively, protecting her from any impact. Despite the fall, both of them remained on the sofa, with Emily on the bottom and Daniel on top of her.
In a very close and intimate position, the two stared at each other. Their heartbeats were racing, creating a palpable tension in the air. Their lips almost touched in such proximity, creating a moment where time seemed to stand still.
Daniel immediately snapped out of the intense moment. Quickly, he raised himself from his position on top of Emily. Meanwhile, Emily seemed to blink her eyes with a rush of irregular breathing. Seeing Daniel in such close range made her imagine the flashback where Daniel kissed her in the bathroom.
Emily finally got up from the sofa slowly. She tried to calm herself from the flashbacks that suddenly appeared.
“I told you there was no need, but you insisted,” Daniel said in a firm voice.
Emily looked at Daniel with a regretful expression. “You got hurt because of me. I feel guilty, so I just want to treat your arm.”
“No need,” Daniel said firmly, his voice like a non-negotiable order.
“That’s it then,” Emily said and stood up from her seat and stepped slowly towards the door.
“Where are you going?” Daniel asked.
“Returning this wound ointment because my good intentions were not accepted,” Emily said with a hint of disappointment. After exiting the room, she slightly slammed the door loudly, showing her frustration and disappointment.
“I really can’t help myself anymore. How can he has a girlfriend if he has that kind of attitude? Who can tolerate his attitude?” grumbled Emily as she walked down the motel stairs.
Meanwhile, Daniel seemed to muse about the events that had just happened as their souls returned to their respective bodies.
“Our souls could return earlier because I helped her. What fate is this?” Daniel whispered to himself, trying to find answers in his turbulent mind. “What’s the purpose of that old lady doing this to us?” Daniel’s hands were clenched tightly, holding back the emotions that were growing up inside him.
