I slept so well for the first time in a couple of days, but I couldn’t stop thinking about Aiden and Sihwa.
Took a warm bath as soon as I woke up and dressed myself for breakfast. I realized the time was 2:40pm. I guess I overslept because of how exhausted I was and the side of my head which bled last night was still hurting a little after my maid gave it a first aid treatment and called the family doctor early in the morning to check up on me.
I wore a yellow sundress gown, sprinkled some perfume, and combed my long hair before coming downstairs. I guess the maid has gotten everything ready for me and breakfast, too.
I walked to the dining table and saw my grandfather eating his scrambled eggs and toast bread on the table.
I sat down beside him and greeted him. “Good morning, grandpa.”
“Good morning.” He mumbled and swallowed up his food before he faced me. “How are you? How was your night? Did you sleep well?”
“I slept well, grandpa. Thanks a lot for yesterday.”
“You don’t need to thank me. You are my granddaughter and my daughter.” He smiled. “I can see I got the right size for you.”
I smiled and looked at my sundress. “Yes, it’s the perfect size. Jane got it for you after you ordered it, right?”
“Yeah.” He added. ‘She said she could figure out your size after seeing your recent pictures in the family photo your mother took before the mating ceremony. I told her to decorate your room too. I hope you liked your room.’
“I love it, grandpa.” I muttered and stared at my plate. “Thank you so much for helping me. I don’t know what to do next.”
“I would do more for you, Wendy. No one treats my granddaughter disrespectfully because she’s an Omega. I’m an alpha and your grandfather. I have to protect you from those barbarians who know nothing but the tails between their legs.”
I laughed. “Grandpa said barbarians.”
“It is true. They are definitely barbarians. If they had some conscience, they wouldn’t treat you like a whore. They ruin the reputation of alphas all over the world. That’s why people feel scared of alphas now. Their egos are over their head. Alphas are to lead and protect the weaker ones, not trample on them.”
I agreed with him. “Yeah, grandpa.”
He took my plate and served me some scrambled eggs and veggies. He set it down in front of me and asked. “Do you want bread? I heard girls like to watch what they eat right so they don’t get fat. I don’t understand them these days.”
I couldn’t stop smiling at his words. He was such a fatherly figure.
“Just a few slices would do.”
He took out four slices of bread and gave it to me. “It’s that okay or do you want more?”
“It’s okay, papa. I’m good.”
“Okay, dig in.” He faced his food, and I ate my scrambled eggs and veggies with bread.
We ate quietly before he broke the silence. “I want you to take it easy and not ruin yourself, okay?”
“Ok, papa.” I nodded and almost finished eating when a question popped up in my mind. “Papa, do you know what happened to Mom and-”
“Finish your food first. Then we can have the strength to discuss. We have a lot to talk about.”
“Ok, grandpa.” I finished the whole plate before glancing at his expression. I poured myself a glass of juice as my grandfather ordered a dessert for both of us. Jane brought along a dessert and served them to both of us.
“Thank you, Jane.” My grandfather uttered in excitement.
I didn’t know my grandfather loves dessert.
She gave her a slight bow. “It is a pleasure to serve you, Alpha Aiden.”
“Aiden.” I whispered and looked at my grandfather. “Your name is Aiden?” Why didn’t I know my grandfather’s name was Aiden?
“Yes, Wendy. My birth name is Aiden Nightshade.”
I gasped. “Why didn’t you-I mean- why did you keep your name from me?”
“I never kept my real name from you or anyone. You just didn’t realize what my actual name was because you were a kid back then. You just focused on calling me Grandpa as a child. It’s not your fault you don’t know my real name. Most kids grow up before they actually know the name of their parents. It is not a big deal.”
I didn’t know what to say. My grandfather’s name is Aiden Nightshade.
It was just like the first time we met when I first moved in with my mother. He shook my hands and welcomed me into my new home.
He even prepared a room for me and decorated it. He fought for me with his brothers and stood by me.
Aiden defended me and told my stepfather to enroll me into a new school after I got bullied at my previous one.
He taught me how to contain my scent as an omega. He did a lot of things in my life that my mother couldn’t spare a time to do for me.
He affected my life more than the woman who gave birth to me, and Sihwa came around and killed him.
And my grandfather has the same name as him. Why didn’t I ever know that? Like he said, it wasn’t my fault. Most kids call their parents’ mom and dad. They are very familiar with it and have mentally programmed themselves to believe that those are their parents’ names.
Why does it feel like Aiden is always with me wherever I go? He is always by my side? Was this what it felt like when people die and they say I will always watch over you?
Aiden, are you watching me right now? Are you staying by my side?
Does this mean any time I look at my grandfather, I will always remember you and feel comforted?
And the memories of Aiden’s dead body beside me welled my eyes. I shook my head and couldn’t hold it in my tears anymore.
My grandfather handed me a napkin to clean off my tears, and I took it and wiped them off. I cleaned my nose too and my lips.
“You don’t need to cry anymore. We will find our way out of this and justify his death.”
“Thanks Papa.” I mumbled and held the napkin, looking down at my fingers.
“We wouldn’t let his name go sour. I know he is important to you. We will do everything we can to justify him.” He rested his chin at the back of his folded hands and his elbows were resting on the table.
“Wendy.” He called and faced me. “What do you want to do with those alphas?”
I gulped and shook my head. “I don’t know, grandpa.”
