JADE
Valerie would not stop passing glances at mine and Luciano’s way as we ate breakfast. She seemed so uncomfortable and I did not know why.
Just minutes ago, she was happy seeing us, well Luciano, and now that breakfast had kicked off, she would not stop taking side glances of I and Luciano.
I tried not to focus on her numerous cursory glances but instead focused on the men talk during breakfast.
They were talking about their business and shits like that which I did not even understand a thing.
“So you need your ummm… goods to be passed through Ecuador?” Damien passed me a glance before completing his statement.
I did not need no soothsayer or mindreader to know that the supposed ‘goods’ they are talking of is nothing short of guns and probably hard drugs.
“Yes. I need to be passed through the boarders of Ecuador” Luciano replied plainly.
“Your men aren’t situated in the boarders of Ecuador. And you know this is my…”
“Your territory I know Damien. Damien with my goods in Ecuador it will be easy to get them to Peru and across the Pacific. My brothers have been quite irresponsible” I watched as Luciano’s jaw clenched and unclenched whilst he spoke.
His fist balled unconsciously and I had to place my hands over his, a soft smile on my lips which got his fist to unball slowly.
I caught side glances of Valerie with a scowl on her face but as quickly as I saw it, it vanished replaced by a calm look.
Wait, was she jealous of I and Luciano?
“Man we need to talk about this privately you know?” Damien spoke with bated breaths.
Luciano nodded in agreement.
“Can you men not discuss about business for now? Please we are having breakfast” Leila asked.
“Yes I strongly agree. Why don’t we talk about other things? Like uhm Luciano your marraige was surprisingly hidden from literally everyone. Why did you not send us an invite? You did not want the dangerous Valentinos to grace your wedding?”
“That is not the case. You are highly mistaken. Your brother knew. I told him” Luciano pointed at Damien.
A gasp left Valerie’s lips and she faced her brother. “You fucking knew he was getting married and you did not let me know” she smacked his shoulder.
“Ouch” Damien rubbed his arm. “I was actually busy that period. The wedding was quite sudden and I sent him gifts as regards to our absence. Right?” Damien smirked at our way.
“Still, you should have informed me” Valerie sounded so upset.
“Valerie, forget it. Now you are seeing Luciano and his wife aren’t you?” Leila spoke underneath her breath. It seemed like her words carried a hidden message.
“Yes. I am sorry I could not make it to your wedding Luciano and signora Jade” Valerie masked her anger and responded after a brief silence.
“That is not a problem Valerie. You do not have to beat yourself because you missed our wedding” I was the first to speak before Luciano.
“But it seemed like you never wanted the wedding to hold in the first place” I added, slowly drawing the words out of my mouth with caution.
My one hand was placed under my chin whilst I studied her piercing eyes with mine.
“Nonsense. You are mistaken Jade. I am indeed very happy to see Luciano married. I mean nobody actually thought he had it in him but here we are. I guess you were the trick he needed” Valerie smiled.
I was not fully convinced by her response but I bottled up the rest of my thoughts and flashed her a smile.
“Luciano let us leave the women to discuss whilst we go have our talk what do you think? I am quite filled up already” Damien suggested to which Luciano concured.
“Sure” Luciano sprang up to his feet and placed a kiss on my temple. “I will be right back Jade” he said to me before leaving with Damien.
I focused on eating my food when Leila spoke, “Come Jade, let us take you to our garden. We have a variety of flowers and it is a beautiful scenery. You will love it. We are about heading there right now”
“I am ok right here. But I might join you both there soon ok” I responded.
I watched them leave. Now finally alone, I could ponder on what exactly was going through Valerie’s minds and if she really felt jealous about I and Luciano being together.
After about fifteen minutes of being by myself, I was getting anxious and also tired of waiting for Luciano. I actually thought that he would show up soon that is why I declined going to the garden with Valerie and Leila.
But it seemed like I have been waiting for an eternity but my husband was not forth coming. I guess I will have to go to the garden and at least enjoy nature to my fill.
“Please come take me to the garden” I called a nearby maid who was going into the kitchen.
Obediently, she led me towards the garden.
We walked through the gothic hallway of the mansion until we approached a little iron gate at the end of hall with a measure of light from the outside illuminating the walls of the hallway.
“That there is the garden ma’am. I shall take my leave now” she slightly bowed at me before leaving.
I could hear the voices of Valerie and Leila in a heated discussion as I ponderously approached the little iron gates leading to the garden.
It seemed like they were in an argument.
Not wanting to just walk into their conversation, I pitched myself close to the wall and eaves dropped on them.
“He is married Valerie. What more are you asking off?” That was Leila speaking.
“How could he do that to me!? I was the one meant to marry him not that strange woman”
What! My eyes widened in shock and my lips went ajar as I tried to comprehend what I just heard.
My curiosity was now heightened.
“There are a thousand men out there who would want to be yours. Why Luciano? You can see that he holds no affection for you again or any other woman other than his wife” Leila spoke with frustration ringing in her tone.
“He is the one I want. He is the one I love! I want him no matter the cost!” Valerie was being so adamant in letting go of the feelings she shared for my husband.
“Do you want to be a second wife!? He is fucking married now. He can’t divorce Jade for you” Leila tried to talk sense into her.
“I do not care if I will be a second wife or even a fifth wife. I just want to be Luciano’s wife”
Her words caused a gasp to leave my lips which echoed round the walls of the hall.
I can not be here. I have to leave her right now. Horrified at what I just evesdroped on, I rushed through the hallways, reaching for the dinning area.
“Luciano…” I spotted him climbing down the stairs with Damien behind him.
“Can we go back home please” I approached him quickly and whispered my request.
“Is any thing the matter?” Luciano asked.
I shook my head. “Not at all. I just feel dizzy a bit” I managed to lie.
Luciano raised a brow at me but did not say a word.
Giving in to my request, he turned to face Damien. “We will have to go now. Hope you don’t mind?”
“Not at all. Thank you both for honouring my invitation to come here. Luciano we shall see some other time” he responded.
I smiled at him and interlocked my fingers with Luciano’s before we walked out of the mansion together.
Just in less than two months, my life had changed so drastically. I got married to a man whom I never knew, I found myself in a family divided by the thirst for power and wealth.
I made enemies within the family, my husband is practically the leader of a dangerous crime syndicate, he almost got killed, I almost got raped and killed and now I am in a country where the sister of a dangerous crime don wants my husband.
Wow my life can really not get any worse than this.
