Erica’s POV
I was alone in the room when someone burst in.
“Erica?!”
I sat up in alarm.
“Javier?”
Before he could take another step closer to me, nurses and security officers burst in and grabbed him.
“Take him out. He isn’t supposed to be here.”
The nurses looked at him sternly and gave the order as the officers carried him out of the room.
He struggled to get out of their grasp but they swarmed him. I knew that he was holding back. He couldn’t use his werewolf strength. There were people in the ward and it would attract a lot of attention.
“Wait!”
The men froze and looked at me.
“Let him go. I called him and asked him to come here.”
“But ma’am you need to rest.”
I took a deep breath. Javier’s golden eyes stared deep into my soul and I felt the warmth in them.
“I want him to be here. Just leave him. I’ll be fine.”
There was slight tension in the room and finally, they let him go. The nurses left with the security officers and we were left alone.
I was silent and turned my head away. I still felt bad for slapping him. And despite all of that, he still came to see me.
He pulled a chair close and sat at my bedside.
“Hey, what happened? Are you okay?”
I gave a nod. And flexed my arm that was in the bandage.
I was healing up quite quickly. I had to get out of this place soon before the doctors found out. I wouldn’t be able to explain anything to them.
“I’m…I’m sorry about…”
“No.”
He took my hand and squeezed it a little. I felt slightly guilty about the way he touched me.
“I should be the one apologizing. I…I got carried away and I let it cloud my judgment. I should have controlled myself and respected your boundaries. You are an amazing woman and despite what happened. I hope that we can be friends.”
I tried not to cry. I was holding back tears and my eyes stung.
He noticed and passed me a handkerchief and I wiped my face.
“Erica?”
I tried to open my mouth but the words refused to come out. I simply gave a nod. He understood that it meant that I was okay.
There was a brief silence.
“What happened to you?”
He looked at my arm and leg and I froze. How could I explain to him that I had been attacked by a wolf?
I had thought about it and I suspected that it was all Hazan’s doing.
How could I tell him that I thought that a mad wolf tyrant king was after me because only I could wield the one thing that he wanted and the one thing that could stop him?
“Erica? What happened?”
He squeezed my hand a little tighter. His grasp was gentle and comforting as he tried to urge me to talk.
I took a deep breath. I knew that Dante had refrained from telling anyone in his pack about what was going on, but would it hurt to tell him?
I looked at the door and made sure that no one was eavesdropping.
“Someone is after me,” I whispered.
I expected him to be stunned at least but he kept a calm demeanor and closed the door.
“Do you know who?” he asked as he sat down.
I took a deep breath.
“Alpha Hazan, he’s the Alpha of…”
“The Blood Moon Pack.”
Javier completed the statement and I was stunned. How did he know who Hazan was?
I saw a distant look in his eyes. He seemed sad and miserable.
“How did you…”
“I have met him. He destroyed my pack when I was little. He killed my parents and I was forced to run away. I was later adopted by a family in this pack and they took care of me. They made me who I am today but didn’t live long. They died three years ago. I swore that if I get the opportunity, I will make Hazan pay for what he did.”
His golden eyes blazed as I saw the anger in his eyes.
My heart sank. I couldn’t believe that that monster had hurt Javier as well.
I took his hand and squeezed it back.
“Hazan hurt my pack as well. He attacked it and now my people are suffering. My dad sent me here to get help from that Alpha but it’s not going as well as I planned.”
“Alpha Dante?”
I gave a nod.
“He was the one that pulled me away at the party.”
Javier gave a nod.
“It all ties together now. No wonder he had the guts to haul you away. He must have a thing for you. I can’t blame him anyway.”
I chuckled nervously.
“Yeah. A thing.”
I didn’t want to talk about Dante. It was also much easier to talk to Javier. I felt freer and more relaxed.
We had a lot in common and he was a good guy. Dante and I couldn’t pull this off alone. We needed more allies if we were going to make this work.
“I need to ask you for something, Erica?”
I perked up and looked at Javier in shock.
“What is it?”
“If you and the Alpha Dante are going after Hazan, I want to help. I want to get my revenge for my parents and my pack. That bastard needs to pay for what he’s done.”
I was aghast. Was he reading my mind?
“Javier, I would…”
Slam!
The door opened with such force that it shook the whole room.
Javier and I both turned to the door and there he stood, huffing in anger and glaring down at Javier and me.
“Dante?”
My heart began to pound in my chest as I felt his anger burn hot.
I was frozen.
Dante turned and locked eyes with Javier. Gold and green clashed against each other.
Dante’s eyes narrowed and he snarled.
“It’s you again. What the fuck are you doing here?!…”
