Ulric looked at those three words, his eyes darkening, an indescribable feeling welling up inside him…
Just as he had resolved to let go, fate arranged for him to meet her again. What did this mean?
“Mr. Walters? Do you need me to conduct a deeper investigation into Taylor’s activities over the past few years?” Cedric asked cautiously.
He couldn’t fathom the CEO’s thoughts and didn’t dare to guess, because Taylor was a sensitive topic for him.
“No need.” Ulric paused for a few seconds, then added, “Not for now.”
He needed to think clearly about what he should do and what he truly wanted.
After hanging up the phone, Ulric poured himself a glass of red wine and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window of his hotel room.
This small town was very quiet at night, in stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Ulric tugged at his thin lips and took a sip of the wine.
The sour taste immediately swept through his mouth, spreading down his throat…
The breeze from the window brought him some clarity.
Rationality told him that since he had already decided to give up on Rosalind, he shouldn’t change his mind easily! Meeting Rosalind again was a test from fate of his determination.
Yes, that’s it.
Ulric felt the wind wasn’t strong enough; he wasn’t clear-headed enough.
He put down his wine glass, grabbed a random piece of clothing, and walked out of the room.
Downstairs at the hotel, because there were few pedestrians or vehicles on the street and the trees on both sides of the road were tall but not obstructive, the night wind was quite strong. It blew against him as if trying to provide some answers.
Ulric stood straight on the road in front of the hotel. His tall figure seemed somewhat lonely, and the hem of his clothes fluttered in the wind as if trying to break free from some constraint.
Suddenly-
Footsteps approached.
Ulric instinctively looked toward the sound.
It was that child with eyes very much like Rosalind’s!
She was wearing a blue puffy dress and staying at Dreamview Hotel too.
But… what was she doing out so late?
Ulric hesitated but couldn’t help walking towards her. He stopped in front of her and squatted down, “Little one, where are your parents?”
Floyd was clearly startled by someone stopping her!
She quickly raised her chubby little hand, signaling Ulric not to speak.
“I don’t have a daddy. Mommy is working; she’s very busy and can’t play with me, so I came out to play by myself for a while! Sir, please don’t tell my mommy.”
No daddy.
That phrase could easily lead people to think of unpleasant things.
Ulric slightly tugged at his lips and, almost involuntarily, reached out to pat Floyd’s head. “Alright, I won’t tell, but you can’t leave the hotel. Otherwise, your mommy will be worried if she can’t find you.”
Floyd immediately pouted, her big eyes blinking pitifully. “Ah? But I want to buy candy! Sir, I can leave the hotel!”
She even took out a five-yuan note and waved it around.
Tilda had given Floyd the money as a reward, telling her she could buy candy with it. Floyd had remembered that!
So when Aunt Tilda fell asleep and Mommy was still busy working, she sneaked out with the money!
But this strange man in front of her wouldn’t let her leave the hotel…
How could that be!
Ulric was amused by her words.
After all, she was just a child and couldn’t organize her thoughts properly!
But she was so adorable.
Ulric couldn’t refuse the pitiful look in her dark eyes.
“How about this: I’ll take you back to your hotel room to ask your mommy. If she agrees, I’ll take you to buy candy.”
