Reuben had already learned about what Yamilet had done over the past four years. He told Callie, “Once I recover, I’ll divorce her.”
A long illness tests filial piety, and Callie wasn’t even his biological child. She had taken care of him without complaint for four years, showing her filial devotion. If he didn’t believe her now, it would be his fault.
Moreover, his feelings for Yamilet had long been exhausted.
In the evening, Callie received a return call from Nelson. Before answering, she was having dinner with Reuben. He glanced at her and said, “Go ahead and take it.”
Callie stood up. Nelson’s voice was hoarse from a long meeting. “What is it?”
She hesitated for a long time, unable to say a word. Her emotions were complicated. “Around ten tonight, I’ll be at Paucaster Villa Complex. Can you come back?”
There was silence on the other end before he finally agreed.
Callie didn’t stay overnight at the hospital today. She left early and wandered around the area, eventually ending up at Club Paradise.
Bridger personally received her. “What’s wrong this time?”
Callie sat on the sofa with her knees hugged to her chest, her long hair covering most of her face. She watched Bridger pour her a cup of hot tea, the steam rising slowly. She spoke honestly, “I don’t know how to face our future. I came to you because I had no other choice.”
She didn’t know why she could endure it for a year but suddenly couldn’t anymore.
Bridger nodded. As an insider, he knew everything clearly.
Only when someone cares deeply would they act this way.
Bridger smiled and said, “Callie, do you think Nelson has no feelings for you?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Have you ever seen someone treat the woman they like so ruthlessly? Wavering between me and her, and making me bear a debt of one billion dollars without hesitation.”
Bridger laughed. “If that’s what you think, then I need to tell you something important before you get more tangled up-you don’t really understand Nelson.”
Callie frowned, not understanding what he meant.
“I can’t say I know you very well, but I have a good grasp of Nelson’s psychology… Besides, you’re at the end of your rope. If you don’t hold onto him tightly, the future will be unimaginably difficult.”
“Let me tell you a story. You know his identity is extraordinary. Even when he was abroad, many people coveted him secretly. In military strategy, capturing someone’s weakness is key. Everyone thought Marilyn was his weakness and kidnapped her to threaten Nelson. Guess what? He remained unbelievably calm, rescued her alone without losing a single soldier or spending a penny, ignoring their threats to kill her. I’m not saying she wasn’t important to him; she just wasn’t important enough.”
“In my impression, calmness and composure are synonymous with Nelson. But recently, he stayed with me for several days. When he played around, he was very provocative. Crazy as he was, he didn’t touch a single woman in bed. I could see something had changed in him. Don’t doubt me; I have no reason to lie.”
Bridger handed Callie the teacup and smiled lazily.
“When was this?” Callie indeed didn’t know about it.
“When you were recovering from your injuries, also when his rumors with Marilyn were rampant.”
