One of the security personnel closely following behind Ivy’s car noticed something was off. He caught sight of the car jerking before taking off with full speed.
He quickly took out the communication system to inform the others.
“We have a problem, her car has malfunction. Don’t lose track of her car!”
“I repeat, don’t lose track of the Rolls Royce!”
The other personnel responded fairly quickly and sped up to catch up with the Rolls Royce.
The PPO organizing the team tried to contact Louis the driver, but there was no response.
The more they got closer to the car, the more the distance between them increased. This only confirmed how desperate the situation was. They had no choice but to continually try to catch up and monitor the car closely. Stopping the inescapable wasn’t possible at the moment.
________
“LOUIS, WHAT’S HAPPENING!”
Ivy screamed in fright, her eyes widened in horror watching the moving scenery accelerating in a swift uncontrollable speed. She clung onto the seat, her heart hammering in her chest. Fear overtook her senses as her eyes locked on Louis desperately trying to stop the car. His legs continually slammed on the brakes as his eyes darted to the windscreen.
“LOUIS, WHAT IS GOING ON!” She hollered again, terrified. Her throat sore from screaming. “LOUIS!”
Louis’s breath was heavy, his eyes earnestly focused on the windscreen as the car propelled with a frightening speed. “I… I can’t stop the car!” His voice trembled, panic surged through him.
“DO SOMETHING!” Ivy said in a pleading tone, hoping her cries would be heard. The fleeting speed of the car swallowed her breath. She felt as if she had forgotten to breathe because of the tension.
She held onto the edge of the seat with one hand, the other hand trembling while clasping the seat belt. Her mind was fuzzy, as her gaze helplessly wandered, unaware of how to get out of the current peril.
Louis, on the other hand, was solely focused, attempting to stop the car in any way he could. But it was difficult as he was trying to avoid running into a building or truck on the way.
A buzzing sound reverberated from down below. Ivy hastily grabbed her phone, her fingernails scraping on the carpet as a sense of respite creeped into her but immediately dissipated when the intensity of the situation hit her hard to her core.
“Ivy, what happened? Why did you scream a while ago?” Zack asked, his voice laced with concern.
Ivy’s eyes began to well up at the sound of her husband’s voice, her gaze shifted to the fast-moving scenery again. What was delaying the inevitable at the moment was the fact that they were driving through an area with fewer cars. Sooner or later, the worst could happen. She gulped hard, understanding how dire the situation was. If they were to get to a more jam-packed area filled with cars, the result would be horrific.
“Ivy, can you hear me?” Anxiousness surged through Zack as he desperately called out to her due to silence from the other end.
A raspy gasp escaped Ivy’s throat as she fought the urge to break down in tears. “Zack… I’m scared.” Her voice quivered, her mind running wild with pessimistic thoughts. “I’m scared….” A tear flowed down her cheek, her heart heavy with the desire to overcome the threatening situation.
“W… what’s wrong? Are… you hurt? Tell me….” He said in an urgent whisper.
Ivy pressed her lips with no strength to describe what exactly was going on. “Zack…. the car…” She sobbed between her words, her voice quaking. “I’m scared….”
She was usually good at controlling her emotions, but now, it was spilling out of control. She could only express every ounce of her feelings.
“What’s wrong with the car?” Zack’s nervousness increased by the second. Ivy’s replies were suspenseful, daunting him terribly.
A loud crashing sound thundered through the phone and the line suddenly disconnected.
Zack’s eyes widened in horror as he stared at his phone screen, his mind struggling to process the words that seemed to leap off the display. His grip on the device tightened, his knuckles turning white with tension. The room around him began to blur, the sounds of the world outside receding into the distance. It was as if the whole world was closing in on him, the weight of Ivy’s fear crushing him beneath its oppressive force.
When his mind had fully processed the terror, his rationality was triggered, prompting him to make a quick dash out of the office. He slammed the door behind and accidentally bumped into Bryan, who was bringing in some documents. Bryan stepped back startled by his boss.
“Sir, what’s the matter?” He asked as he noticed the urgency in his body language. Zack ignored him, hastening his footsteps to reach the elevator.
“Sir…” Bryan ran after him and got into the elevator before the door shut.
Bryan followed Zack, sensing something was off. As they approached the elevator, Zack’s pace quickened, his eyes fixed on the doors. “Sir…” Bryan started to ask, but Zack’s tense expression silenced him. He ran after him and slipped into the elevator just before the doors shut.
As they descended, the tension grew thicker than the air. Bryan wanted to ask what was wrong, but it was obvious it wasn’t good.
When they reached the parking lot, Zack snatched the keys from Bryan and got into the car. As Zack sped off the premises, Bryan’s confusion turned to concern. “What the hell is going on?”
