CHAPTER 62

“The shareholders have called an impromptu meeting, sir… and Lady B will arrive any moment from now,” Clara announced, her voice laced with urgency.
I raised an eyebrow. “Right now?”
“Yes, sir.”
I ran my hands through my hair, feeling frustration crawling in. “Get Jake here, immediately.” I ordered, my voice stern.
Clara nodded and quickly left.
Moments later, Jake arrived, his expression expectant, without as much as waiting for him to take his seat I proceeded with what I had to say,”Jake, I need you to go to the airport and welcome Kings Land’s CEO. Clara will accompany you.”
His face contorted in protest. “Why me? Can’t someone else do it? I was told the shareholders are meeting in a few minutes, and I need to be there.”
My tone turned authoritative. “This isn’t a request, Jake. It’s an order from me, your CEO. Go to the airport and ensure Kings Land’s CEO receives a proper welcome.”
His expression darkened, anger flashing in his eyes. He had been testing my patience since joining the company as a shareholder, constantly questioning my decisions.
Have tried to make him understand countless times why it was best for him to climb the ladder himself, but he seems to have become deaf to my words.
With a scowl, he stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
Someone really needs to tell him that I don’t give a fuck about his anger.
I picked up my phone and dialed Clara. “You’ll be accompanying Jake to the airport. Get ready.”
Her voice remained professional. “Yes, sir. Right away.”
I hung up, my mind already shifting to the impromptu meeting that was in few minutes time, aswell as the mysterious Lady B.
Nora’s POV..
Kate had said she wouldn’t let her family know she was in town until her fiance had settled everything he had planned and had enough time to spend with her and her family.
Immediately they arrived at the airport, they went straight to their apartment. However, I and the kids had to wait to be welcomed by someone from Blue Enterprise, left with just me I’ll be heading straight to the house prepared for me
Holding my hands, Mia’s tiny voice called, “Mum.”
“Yes, dear?”
“Everyone has a flier that reads the name of who they’re welcoming. Why is no one here to welcome us?”
“They’re on their way, sweetheart.”
“Is it Grandma and Grandpa?”
“No, baby.”
“When do we get to see them?”
“Soon. Mum has some business to sort out first.”
The airport was crowded with people, and I placed both Mia and Mason on an empty luggage cart, rolling it to the waiting area.
Juliette had told me someone was coming to welcome us, but we’d arrived over fifteen minutes ago, and still, no one.
I checked my watch for what felt like the hundredth time.
Mia began to whine again, “Mummy, I’m hungry.”
“Let’s get some snacks, sweetie,” I replied, spotting a nearby cafe.
I rolled them both to the cafe, got them snacks, and waited as they ate. We spent another fifteen minutes waiting, still no one arrived.
The kids were already tired from waiting. After a while, I decided to get a cab and leave.
“I’m done, Mummy,” Mia said, wiping her mouth.
“Me too,” Mason added, resting his weight on the luggage cart.
We found the cab and I passed him a piece of paper with the address of where we are to stop, I helped them both get straped into the car.. “Mum, my jacket,” Mason said, pointing towards the direction we just came from.
“What ? Where?” I asked, turning around.
“There,” Mason pointed, ” next to the chair.”
My eyes finally caught on it; it was where we stood earlier. I quickly walked down to the spot, picked up the jacket.
As I turned to head back to the cab, I didn’t notice the person coming in my direction. I ran into him, dropping the jacket.
“I’m sorry,” I said, picking up the jacket without looking up.
“It’s okay,” the person replied.
That voice?
As I stood up, our eyes met. Jake.
Of all the person’s I’m to meet today, I ended up meeting the worse.
But my disguise seemed to be working. He didn’t recognize me.
“Sorry again,” I said, smiling slightly.
“No worries,” Jake replied, his eyes lingering on me.
He looked more matured since the last time I saw him, he was wearing a suite and looked quite bright and presentable.
The undeniable features between him and Mason was evident.
For a moment, I worried, but his expression showed only curiosity, not recognition. turning to leave.
“Yes, thanks,” I replied, turning to leave.
“Mia, wait for Mummy,” I called out, noticing she was trying to undo the straps.
Just as I took a few steps, Jake’s voice called out.
“Nora?”
I froze, my heart skipping a beat.
Damn it, I told Kate this won’t fool anyone.
Look at me, first meeting I’m already detected.
I slowly turned around, feigning surprise.
“Sorry, I think you’ve got the wrong person,” I said, forcing a smile.
Jake’s expression changed from curiosity to shock.
“Wrong person ?”
“Yes,”
“I’m so sorry, I must have mistaken you for someone else,” he said, his voice uncertain.
I flipped my hair, maintaining my disguise.
“That’s fine, I get that a lot,” I said, waving my hand.
Mia tugged on my hand. “Mummy, let’s go.”
I nodded, using the distraction to escape.
“Nice meeting you,” I said, quickly walking away.
As I got into the car, I heard Jake’s muttered words.
“That’s impossible… it can’t be.”
I quickened my pace, my heart racing.”go, go, go.” I said to the driver. I can’t afford to give him an opportunity to clarify his doubt.
Had I just raised suspicion?
Or had I successfully fooled Jake?
Only time would tell.
I can’t believe I had really agreed to take such risk, these people know me, they’ve spent years with me, some makeover won’t fool them.
The taxi took off, and I couldn’t help but glance back, my heart still racing like I had just finished a marathon race.
Jake stood there, watching us leave.
Our eyes met for a brief moment, and I quickly looked forward.
His eyes had so many questions, and I knew exactly what was running through his head.
“Mummy who is that man ?” Mason asked, the moment he noticed my attention was still on Jake.
“He’s no one baby, I think he came for someone, he just looked like someone I used to know..”
“Okay mum, where are we headed ?”
Wrapping my hand around his neck, I pulled him closer,”Home…”
I tried not to think about what have gotten myself into, however I couldn’t help but see everything going south.
I’m very certain Jake was the one who came to welcome me, however I need to mentally prepare myself, before facing anyone and that includes getting a new plan.
