Corey walked out of the elevator to the door of his apartment. He was about to key in the password.
At this point in time, the door opposite his opened. Accompanied by a shriek, a girl charged out with her head lowered, bumping into him accidentally.
The girl lifted up her head when she felt that she had bumped into someone. When she saw his face, she exclaimed, “It’s you!”
That was the extraordinary circumstance that marked Corey’s virgin experience of killing a cockroach.
He wrapped the dead cockroach in tissue before throwing it into the toilet bowl for it to be flushed away.
Then, he walked out and saw the girl walking out of her kitchen with a bottle of water.
Seeing him, the girl asked hastily, “So? Did you kill it?”
Corey nodded. “Yes, it’s dead.”
The girl heaved a sigh of relief. “I am finally saved.”
She then passed the bottle of water over. “Here, sorry for the trouble.”
Corey received the bottle of water and examined her mockingly. “Are you so afraid of a cockroach?”
The girl glared at him. “Every girl is afraid of cockroaches, ok?”
“Really?” Corey raised his brows. “I didn’t know that.”
The girl smiled before changing the topic. “I didn’t expect you to live opposite me.”
Corey smiled. “I didn’t expect you to live here.”
Right then, the girl who stood in front of him was exactly the girl he had met in the pub, together with Xiaoxiao—
Halle Mitchell.
“Is your girlfriend living here?” Halle asked this question casually but her eyes seemed to be hiding a deeper meaning.
“No, she lives at her house.” Corey looked around him and examined the simplistic style. There weren’t many decorations around and everywhere had a simple look. From this, he could tell that she disliked mess and complications.
Seeing that he was examining her apartment, Halle Mitchell smiled at him as if she had seen through what he was thinking. “I love simplicity, hence… I don’t like to have too many items.”
Corey examined her clean and clear face devoid of makeup as his mouth curled into a smile. “Actually…”
He hesitated for a while. “It’s not bad.”
Halle Mitchell sniggered. “The words ‘not bad’ don’t seem to be heartfelt.”
Then, she pointed at the sofa in the living room. “Let’s sit there and chat. It’s strange to chat while standing.”
“There is no need.” Corey rejected her. “I am about to go back. It’s inconvenient for me to stay so late.”
After he finished, he turned around and walked out of the door.
Halle Mitchell followed him to the door and thanked him before watching him enter his apartment. She stared at his closed apartment door for a long time before slowly closing her door.
The next day, in a noisy cafeteria, Rosiley and Ying Xiaoxiao sat in the corner.
Rosiley was eating her food slowly as she looked up at Ying Xiaoxiao from time to time.
Xiaoxiao was no longer as passionate and fiery as before. She was like a rotten cucumber, lethargic and deflated.
She put down her chopsticks and put her wrist on the corner of the table. She frowned and asked, “Xiaoxiao, was the meet-the-parents session yesterday not a success?”
Ying Xiaoxiao lifted up her head to look at her. Biting her lips, she asked instead of replying, “Rosiley, do you think I am crazy?”
“Why?”
Ying Xiaoxiao hesitated for a while before sighing and replying slowly, “I think I was crazy. I knew that he didn’t like me, but I still liked him. What should I do now?”
Seeing that she was frustrated and confused, Rosiley could not help smiling. “How do you know that he doesn’t like you?”
“I can tell.” Ying Xiaoxiao pursed her lips. “Do you think he likes me?”
She thought that it was very unlikely.
