Prescott’s POV
My heart tightened and my breath hitched as I stepped down from the car. My memories with Nova, right there in the courtyard of her father, came rushing to my head, making my hands trembled as I matched towards the Alpha’s building.
“Your Majesty, the King!”
“Greetings, Your Majesty!”
Two palace guards ran up to me, they bowed their heads in respect as I walked passed them without saying a word of reply to their greetings.
Czar, one of my warriors, and the two guards increased their paces so they could meet with my pace.
“Alpha Randale?” I asked, not sparing them a glance as I climbed up to the corridor to the Alpha’s building.
“The Alpha is in his office, Your Majesty,” the guard stammered, his voice quivering with fear. “He’s been expecting you.”
I nodded, keeping my eyes trained on the building in front of me. I remained silent as I followed the guard down the familiar hallway. Though I’d only been here a few times, it felt like I’d been walking these halls for years.
Getting to the Alpha’s office, I reached for the door, my hand trembling as it hovered over the handle. Czar rushed towards me, eager to open the door, but I waved him away. I needed to do this myself.
“Wait here for me, Czar,” I declared firmly, and he came to an immediate stop. He looked up at me, his eyes filled with questions, and I nodded at him to reassure him. “Wait right here for me.”
I whispered. He nodded in response, then mouthed the words, “Yes, Your Majesty.”
I took a deep breath and twisted the doorknob, pushing the door open with a creak. I exhaled slowly as I stepped inside, my eyes scanning the room. The Alpha stood at the other end of the office, his back turned to me. His hands were clasped behind his back. He abruptly turned around and his eyes met mine.
“You’re here, Lycan King?” he let out a faint smile as he walked up to me, his jaw clenched as he stood before me, “Welcome, Your Majesty!”
I stood still, my eyes were focused on the man who was giving me a sad smile, but I couldn’t see him, because my mind was a jumbled mess.
“Ehm,” Alpha Randale gulped, hitching his jaw as he moved his eyes around, obviously searching for something.
“Your Majesty?” he called, bringing me back from my wonderland. I arched my eyebrows, staring at him with a confused look on my face.
“Yes?” I demanded whatever he had to say.
“Would you love to have a seat and perhaps we go to the interrogation room when you’ve relaxed?” he asked, carefully picking on his words so he wouldn’t say what would get him on my bad side.
“Get me your eldest daughter,” I snapped, the words spilling out of me in a rush. I sounded harsher than I’d intended.
Alpha Randale’s expression shifted from neutral to confused, as if he wasn’t sure he’d heard me correctly. His brow furrowed as he asked, “You want to see my daughter?” His tone was sceptical as if he couldn’t understand why I’d want such a thing.
“Your… Majesty? I thought you were here for the last captive? Why do you want to see Tamsyn, did she commit any crime to you, Your Majesty?” he asked worriedly, his fists clenched tight, and his lips trembled as he stared at me, waiting for his answer.
I spun around and sat down on the couch, crossing my legs and leaning back against the headrest. I fixed my gaze on Alpha Randale, my eyes flashing with impatience. He was still standing by the door, frozen in place. I gave him a pointed look as if to say, “Well? Are you going to do as I asked?”
“Get me your eldest daughter, Randale, and vacate this building right this instance!” I howled, my shoulders heaved as I glared at the man who shook slightly after making me go mad.
“Yes… Your Majesty,” he mumbled, his head bowed slightly as he made use of the exit, leaving me alone in his office to ponder over what I was doing.
Will she know? Will the eldest daughter truly know what happened? Was she part of it? Did she do it to get at me just like the other day?
Different questions ran over my mind, I threw my head back, thinking that the eldest daughter would at least have a little knowledge about the rogue if truly she worked for him.
The door crept open, and the eldest daughter, Tamsyn, walked in with her head bowed to the floor. She stood still, not saying anything to me until I voiced out, “Sit!”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” she murmured, dragged her feet forward and sat down on the sofa across from me. “You asked for me?”
“Why did you do it? To get your silly revenge?” I scoffed, my voice laced with disbelief and derision. I balled my hands into fists, digging my fingernails into my palms as I glared at the eldest daughter. She looked confused as if she didn’t understand what I was talking about.
“Do what? What exactly did I do again?” she glared, her mouth slightly parted in anger.
“Nova! Why did you do that to her? Was it to get back at me?” I was been careful not to sell the whole information to her, if she was indeed one of them, she would react to it, and if not, she would definitely ask to know what she did.
“Did?” she scoffed, her cheeks raised in amusement. “Did Nova seriously send you here to get an apology from me? How stupid of her!”
“Lady, watch your mouth when you’re addressing my Queen!” I gritted my teeth, I couldn’t watch the eldest daughter use her uncultured tongue to speak ill of my wife.
“Whatever.” she rolled her eyes, pressing her palms on her thighs, “Whatever she said to you, I’m not going to be sorry for what I did, and how I talked her into joining in my plan. After all, you survived the attack, so why should I be sorry.”
That’s it, she wasn’t aware of what happened. That only means one thing, she’s not one of them.
“You should know when to give up and when to accept your fate. Even if you’re against my marriage with your sister, you should at least be happy for her as a sister, not to make her feel sad or anything.” I pressed my palms on the table, leaning towards the lady who was visibly shaking in her seat.
“I’m… I’m never going to let it go, You killed my mate so I will never forgive you for that, never!” she yelled with all her might, her heart was beating loudly and I was hearing it from where I sat.
“I never asked for your forgiveness, did I?” I smirked, resting back in my seat. “You should blame your weak mate for fighting those that are stronger than he was.” I stood up from the seat, snuck my hands into my jeans pocket and strolled towards the exit.
I gripped the doorknob, ready to twist it open when I turned back to see the eldest daughter, hitting her chest with her fist, somehow I felt sorry for her, but I couldn’t do anything to change what had happened to her mate.
“I’m sorry that your mate had to die.” I gulped, and people around me made apologies sound easy, doing it made me realise it was harder than I thought.
I swiftly turned around, opened the door and stepped outside to see Czar and two of Randale’s guards still standing outside, waiting for me.
I heaved a sigh, I thought I would get information from the eldest daughter, but since it was certain she knew nothing about it, my last hope was on the last captive and I hope he wouldn’t choose death over a piece of information of Eruba.
“Lead the way to the interrogation room!” I ordered, taking a long stride forward and the guards rushing to take the lead.
