Nova’s POV
My hands clenched to my sides as I entered the royal kitchen. My mind was on the lady and I didn’t know why I was heading to the royal kitchen when I should be heading back to the King’s hall.
I could still hear the sound of the slap, echoing in my head. I took a deep breath before entering the kitchen to see Anika writing down something on a note.
“Your Highness!” she paused whatever she was doing when she felt my presence. Her eyes widened in shock when she realized it was truly me, the Queen, who had just entered the kitchen.
I sighed, before walking over to the table set and sat down on the stool, while staring at the freshly cut vegetables on the counter.
“Anika,” I paused, staring at the covered pots on the cookstove.
“Yes, Your Highness!” she walked over to me and stood right in front of me with the note in her hand.
“Do you…” I trailed off, thinking of a better way to lay out my questions. “Do you by any chance serve His Majesty separately? He hasn’t been eating with the rest of the family, has he?” I asked, staring at Anika who shook her head as if she had been waiting all her life to be asked that question.
“No. Not at all.” she smiled, closing the note in her hand before dropping it on the table.
I nodded, already knew he hadn’t been eating with the family. Then where did he have his meal?
“When and where did His Majesty have his meal? I would love to be among the people who would be serving His Majesty’s meal, tonight.” I bit my lip as I sounded desperate just now, Why would I want to do that If not I had ran out of ideas and I didn’t know how else I could see His Majesty if not by going extreme. Anything it take just to see his Majesty, I am more than ready to do it.
“His Majesty doesn’t have a server…” Anika mumbled, pulling out a seat and sat down. Her gaze was on me as she opened her mouth to speak again.
“Lady Ulrica came whenever she pleased, she requested for a specific meal to be made and she would sit down here until we got it done, She would be the one to pick out maids who would be serving his Majesty.” She added, picking up the note from the table.
My eyebrows knitted in shock when realization dawned on me. That fucking bitch was the one serving my Prescott and it was his food the maids were carrying earlier. How was I so foolish to not think it that way?
“Even this night?” I asked, hoping she would tell me otherwise, but no, she said what I knew to be the truth.
“She had come for it, and I’m very sure his Majesty must have gotten his meal by now,” Anika uttered, I let out a drag of air as I stood up from the stool.
“What time does the lady come for His Majesty’s breakfast?” I asked, turning my back on her.
“She usually comes around 7:30 to 8 a. m…” she uttered, I heard the sound of the seat hauling on the marble floor and I assumed she just stood up from the seat.
“I will be here around that time. Make sure you prepare whatever His Majesty would love to have for breakfast, I would be taking his meal to him myself.” I ordered.
“Yes, Your Highness!” Anika muttered I didn’t say anything as I made my way towards the exit.
My head was filled with the thought of Prescott who was avoiding me, and his best friend who was doing everything to serve my purpose to him.
I didn’t know what was going on in the Lady’s head, but whatever it was she was planning to do, it was not a good thing.
I hastened my footsteps as I made my way to the King’s Hall, My heavy heart seemed to melt and I felt my worries fly away the moment I saw Shayna, standing beside the fountain at the King’s Hall. I took a step closer to her and I watched as she slowly turned around to stare at me.
“My Princess?” she called, her eyebrows raised as she stared at me. “Are you just coming? Are you okay?” she rushed up to me.
I nodded, smiling as she gave me the look that told me she was worried about me.
“You shouldn’t worry about anything. I’m fine.” I smiled, grabbing her shoulders in my hands while staring right into her eyes.
“But… you seemed stressed,” she mumbled, pouting her mouth while giving me her glassy look.
“Get me the royal guard, Rezso, and I will be fine after having a word with him.” I let go of her shoulders, I took a step back as I stared at her.
“The guard from earlier?” She asked, I nodded my head while waiting for her to go get my order done.
Shayna gulped down nervously as she moved her gaze away from me.
“I will go get him, Princess.” Shayna bowed before walking away.
I sighed, spun on my heels and walked into the building. I need to write to his Majesty and request for his audience. I can’t possibly deliver it to him myself, he would never let me meet him, and there’s no way my letter would get to him unless I asked someone from the Villa to deliver my letter to him.
I entered the room that was supposed to be my matrimonial bedroom that I should be sharing with his Majesty. I walked over to the closet and brought out my box, Aunt Velvena was kind enough to fetch my things, including my box from the King’s building.
I took a neat sheet and pen before dumping the box back in the closet. I rushed up to the bed and began to scribe down whatever came to my mind.
I started with how gravely sorry I was. Then, I wrote about how much his absence had been making me do things that I never thought I would do to myself, and then I wrote about how I was going to hurt myself if he didn’t take back his order and come to the King’s Hall. I didn’t know I was that desperate until I said I missed the air around him, his voice and everything that reminded me of him.
I was about to seal the letter when I heard a faint knock on the door. I hastily took the zeal and sealed the letter.
“Yes, Come in, Rezso.” I hastily stood up from the bed and rushed up to the door with the letter in my hand.
If his Majesty read my heartfelt letter, there was no way he wouldn’t want to meet up with me.
I opened the door to reveal Shayna, She let out a weird smile when she saw me staring over her shoulder.
“Where’s he? Where’s the royal guard?” I asked, My gaze was a little bit hardened as I stared at her with confusion written on my face.
“I told you, no one would dare enter this building. The Madam had made it clear that no one should be seen anywhere around this building.” She chuckled, eyeing me with a smirk on her face.
“I asked him to come so he should be here, isn’t it?” I groaned, fanning my face with the letter as I was already getting tired of the whole thing.
“Well, the guy is outside.”
I didn’t wait for what else she had to say before walking past her.
Getting outside, I saw Rezso, standing out of the building with his back pressed on the wall. I walked up to him, not minding that I was barefoot.
“Hey,” I called out to him, Rezso hastily got his back off the wall to stare at him, he looked somewhat down and I held tightly onto the letter, thinking I should just reconsider what I was about to do.
“Your Highness?” he called, his eyebrows raised as he eyed the letter in my hands.
I let out a deep breath, shutting my eyes as I stretched my hands to him.
“Make sure it gets his Majesty,” I mumbled, pressing my lids tightly shut.
I felt the letter leave my hand and I let out a deep sigh, perhaps in relief or fear.
“I shall get it to his Majesty.” I heard him say, The distant sounds of footsteps were the next thing that I heard before opening my eyes.
“I pray to the moon he would come to me if he gets my message.” I gulped, my heart was beating hard against my chest as I walked to the Fountain to have a seat.
Waiting for the royal guard’s return seemed like torture because I was scared of him returning without His Majesty.
