Prescott’s POV
“Your Majesty!” Wharton, the royal Beta, whom I had left the matter of the nation in his hands before leaving the royal Villa, his voice echoed through my mind and I let out a soft groan.
This was my first time hearing from him and being away for a couple of days.
“Yes, Wharton,” I said through the mind link as I slowly got up from the seat, after sparing my Queen a last glance.
I walked away from the dining room, not wanting to display any unnecessary facial expressions at the dining. I didn’t know the purpose of my Beta’s mind link and I needed to be someone quiet to be able to express myself.
“How are you doing, Your Majesty? And how is the matter with the rogue, are you making any progress in finding the root of the rogues?” he asked in one breath, his voice came out hoarse and I let out a loud groan.
“I’m still on the rogues, I haven’t gotten my hand on anything useful and it makes me feel sick.” I let out truthfully, didn’t have any reason to hide the fact from my Beta.
“Do you think the name Eruba is real? Do you not think we were chasing the wrong rogues?” Wharton questioned, his tone was low and I wondered if what he said needed to be debated, or if he was only trying to convince himself.
I opened my mouth, trying to imitate talking to an actual person. Suddenly, the link got interrupted and I heard Dixon’s voice take over the link.
“Your Majesty, the last captive has been taken to the interrogating room, We will be needing your audience.”
“I will be there in 20,” I said, ending the mind link on both sides as I resumed my walk out of the dining hall.
I walked briskly out of the dining hall, walking down the corridor in the hope of interrogating the last rogue. After killing off the first two, I didn’t get anything useful out of them. I intended to suspend the last guy till this morning, perhaps I could get my act together before getting to meet the last rogue at the interrogating room.
I made to turn on my feet when I heard a faint voice calling out to me.
“Your Majesty… Prescott!” A faint voice that I knew to be Nova’s travelled through the empty hallway, I paused and slowly turned around to see Nova, running up to me with her palm on her chest.
“My Queen?” I called, my voice came out rather in a whisper.
Nova got to me, she stopped, grabbing her knees in both hands as she tried to catch her breath.
“Hey, do you need anything?” I asked, my brows knitted as I stared at her back, wondering what was so important that she had to run after me from the dining room.
“Nothing.” she panted heavily, slowly raised her head and nodded her head. “I don’t need anything. I need you to go somewhere with me.” Her voice shook as she looked sideways, trying to see if anyone was staring at us.
“Right now?” I asked, hitching the back of my neck as I remembered that I needed to be in the interrogation room in 20.
“Yes,” Nova nodded her head, gripping my arm in her hands. “Yes, you need to come with me now,” she whined, gently pulling my arm and I let out a dry chuckle.
“Okay,” I smiled, gently removed her grip on my arm and intertwined her hand with mine. “Where I need to be can wait, I will gladly pause everything in this nation just to be with my Queen.” I winked, gently rocking my thumb on her soft palm.
“Oh,” Nova smiled, her rosy cheeks grew red as she tried to hide her face with a few strands of her hair.
“Don’t! Don’t do that.” I moved my free hand to her face and tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear, exposing her rosy cheeks as there was no hair to cover them.
“I like your face better this way.” I nodded for her to know I wasn’t joking about it.
“Ahem,” she cleared her throat and moved away her gaze as she stared at the golden wall.
“Why do you need me, My Queen?” I asked while staring at the lady who seemed to have forgotten why she was there.
“Ah, yes,” she bit her bottom and her face suddenly went pale as if I just reminded her what she wanted to forget.
“Are you okay?” I snaked my hand to her jaw, gently raised her jaw making her stare at me.
“Um, I’m fine,” she sighed, freeing her jaw from my grip. I let her stare into space for a second, not saying anything to invade her thoughts.
“Please come with me, I need your audience somewhere in this palace.” she breathed out, her heart thumping hard in her chest as she spoke.
I stared at her, my gaze was sharp and intense. A thought in my head told me that something was wrong with her, but I wondered what that was.
“Can you tell me what is going on with…”
“Please don’t ask questions.” she groaned, cutting me off as I tried to ask if she was truly all right.
I couldn’t just start assuming things when I didn’t even know if anything was wrong with her or not. She seemed disturbed, her breath was heavy and I moved my gaze to her hand in mine, it was throbbing in distress.
“Alright,” I sighed, tightening my grip on her hand. “Let’s head to where you were taking me.” I flashed her a reassuring smile, trying to ease her worry since I didn’t know what was wrong with her.
“Yes, Your Majesty!” she bowed before leading me to the place she had in mind to go.
Our hands were still intertwined together, sweat was coming out of her trembling palm. I didn’t know what was wrong with her, but something didn’t feel right.
Perhaps she got herself in a mess and she needed my authority as her husband and King to bail her out of whatever troubles she had gotten herself into.
I chuckled lightly at my silly thought. Nova wasn’t the type to get in trouble with anyone. I might not know much about her, but I could vouch for her and I could bet everything I have on her that she wasn’t the type to get in trouble.
Then, if that wasn’t the case, then what was with her sus action? I traced my gaze on her hand to her shoulder, my eyes drifted to the side of her face to see balls of sweat rolling down her face.
I hadn’t been keeping track of the hallway we were walking on until we entered a dark hallway if it wasn’t for my sense of vision, I wouldn’t be seeing anything in the dark room.
I gripped tight onto Nova’s hand tightly, making her stop walking. I let go of her hand and gripped her shoulders to stare at me. It made sense to me now that she had gotten herself in trouble and I need to learn what that was before I proceed to go further into the dark hallway.
“Nova, I want you to tell me what this is all about…” I paused midway into my speech as I felt a presence behind me, I made to turn but I felt something pierced into my chest, breaking a few bones as it went deeper into my chest.
“Aargh!” I howled out in pain, I tried grabbing the person by the neck but I felt the object pierced deeper into my chest.
I hot liquid dripped down my chest, and my head felt heavy as if whatever I was pierced with was made of a deep poison.
My legs went numb and I fell on my knees with my hands curling around the object that felt like… A dagger?
That was when it dawned on me, I had been stabbed with a poisonous dagger!
