Prescott’s pov
We were standing in front of a tall shelf, I stood behind Nova with my arms crossed while she ransacked through the shelf, checking out some books in the row.
I tapped my foot on the floor, checking out the bustling activities of the store with the corner of my eyes. Suddenly, my eyes landed on a guy in a black jacket, suspiciously moving into the store.
I quietly moved away from Nova, not wanting to pull her attention while I strolled towards where the guy was standing.
That was my purpose in coming to town, to catch any suspicious person. The rogues can be anyone and there was no way you would know if you didn’t check out for their signature tattoo of blue wolf.
I briskly walked to where the guy was standing seconds ago, he was no longer there. I moved my gaze towards the other side to see him entering a door that I assumed to be the restroom.
I quietly trailed behind him, not wanting to raise a false alarm. The guy walked through the hallway and paused in front of a door, he stretched his palm to open a door to the men’s washroom when I grip his arm, turned him around and slammed his back against the door. The abrupt act made the wooden door make a loud noise.
“Who are you?!” I snarled, tightening my grip on his neck as he struggled to break free.
“Who the hell are you?!” he raged, his eyes blazing with fury as he tried to pull off my hand from his throat.
His face was red, his breath coming in short while letting out sharp gasps. I could feel his pulse pounding beneath my fingers, his heart racing with panic. I met his gaze with a cold, level stare.
“You don’t dare question me for I do the questioning!” I pulled him closer to myself, then slammed his back against the wall, making sure he hurt his bones.
The guy winced, his face contorted in pain as he fought to break free from my hold.
“Let me go, you bastard!” he snarled, his fangs emerging as he tried to dip it into my hand.
“If I were you, I would take my fangs back in.” I howled, gripping his head and pressed it to the door.
The guy lashed out, kicking wildly at my crotch. But I had sensed the movement of his leg, even before it reached my crotch. I grabbed his leg, twisting his leg between my thighs, squeezing until he gasped in pain. I held on tight, digging my fingers into the tender flesh of his neck. He tried to wriggle free, to break my grip, but it was no use.
“When I ask you a question, I fucking want you to give me a reply!” I barked at his face, dropping his leg to the floor, I moved my hand on his neck and tossed him to the ground.
He fell to the ground with a loud thud, winching as he crawled on his fours.
“Who are you?” I asked again, taking a deadly stride towards him on the floor, the guy went on his knees and joined his palm together.
“Please, don’t kill me.” he sobbed, crawling backwards until his back collided with the wall.
I took the last stride towards him, gripping his collar and pulling it down from his neck, checking out for the blue mark but it wasn’t there.
“You are not one of them!” I groaned out, feeling disappointed as I pushed him roughly by his chest.
“Why did you do that, if you’re not one of them?” I asked, crouching right next to him on the floor.
“I…” he trailed off, sneaking his hands into his pocket, and bringing out a pack of cigarettes. “I came to speak. Smoking is prohibited in the bookstore, so I had to sneak here.” he coughed, wrapping his palm around his neck, soothing the bruises on his neck with his fingers.
“Why didn’t you say so in the first place?” I hissed, standing up from the floor, staring down at him.
He arched his back, trying to adjust on the floor. “You attacked me as you as you get here, you didn’t give me the chance to talk.”
“Shit!” I cursed, turned and walked away from him.
I walked back to the spot where I had been left Nova, my eyes smouldering with rage. Every step was heavy and deliberate as if I were crushing something beneath my feet.
My fists were clenched at my sides, my jaw clenched in a hard line. I was a storm of anger and violence, and I had to do something to release the pressure building inside me.
Having gotten back to the spot to meet no one there, I took a deep breath, calming myself a little, thinking I was hallucinating.
“Nova?” I called, looking everywhere for her but she was nowhere in sight.
Could it be that she had gone outside without me? I thought, my feet dragging as I made my way towards the first section that led to the outdoors. But then, I heard a low grumbling sound that could only be coming from one person – Novalie.
I froze in my tracks, my heart pounding in my chest as I realized what that meant. The Queen was still in the store, and she was in danger.
“Aah!” Nova’s scream echoed through my mind, her cry was coming from the next section to where I was standing. I scrambled to the corner where her voice was coming from without hesitation.
I turned in the corner, my eyes falling upon a horrifying sight as soon as I got there. My Queen was trapped in the corner, a man’s hands wrapped around her throat as he squeezed the life out of her. Nova’s eyes were bulging as she fought to break free from the bastard’s grip.
A wave of anger washed over me, my vision turning red as rage consumed me. I let out an ear-blasting howl as I gritted my teeth angrily. I felt claws stretched out of my fingers. I leapt forward and dipped my claws into the guy’s back.
“Aah!” he groaned, throwing off Nova before gripping my hands that were in his gut. I watched as Nova groaned on the floor which makes me want to learn even more.
With a snarl, he made to charge at me, but I was faster than he was. I grabbed him by the head and ripped his head off his body in a brutal twist.
Blood sprayed everywhere as I hurled the severed head across the room, my chest heaving with exertion and adrenaline. My vision was clouded with red, and my hands were soaked with his blood.
“Are you okay?” I smiled, stretching out my bloodied hand to Nova but she moved away, her eyes widened in shock like she had seen a beast.
“My Queen?” I called, urging her to take my hand, with a smile on my face.
Nova glared at me, her eyes hardening into a stony mask. Her eyes flashed with disdain as she fixed her gaze on my hands, which were still covered in blood. She looked as if she wanted to melt me with her gaze alone, her hatred for me palpable.
I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of my mistake bearing down on me. “Please, let me pull you up.” my heart pondered hard against my chest, seeing Nova stare at my hands in disgust.
“Don’t dare stretch out that bloodied hand for me to take!” she growled, her eyes flashed with anger, and tears shimmered in her eyes as she stared at my hand with disdain.
“You this bloody beast!” she yelled, letting her tears fall freely from her eyes.
