Prescott’s pov
Waking up in Blue Moon pack was a different experience than waking up at the royal villa. I was used to the quiet stillness of the morning at the royal villa, and here, I was waking up by the melodic jingling of the bell that chimed from across the palace buildings.
The sound was a little loud, but It was a soothing sound, one that brought a sense of calm to my mind. The stillness of the morning was replaced by the gentle bustle of palace members going about their daily business.
With a groan, I rolled out of bed and stood up, stretching out the kinks in my body. I slid my feet into a pair of soft footwear that was laid down on the floor, their warmth was a comforting sensation on my cold toes. I took a deep breath and exhaled, trying to shake off the last remnants of sleep. I knew I had a lot to do today, but for a moment, I allowed myself to linger in the peace of the early morning before I decided to go have my mouthwash.
Striding towards the bathroom, I entered and grabbed a pack of new toothbrushes.
After spending about ten minutes in the bathroom and five minutes getting dressed, I was standing before the mirror, wearing the old necklace chain around my wrist when a faint knock came on the door.
“You that is standing outside the door, get your butt in here,” I grumbled, pushing my unruly black hair out of my face.
I didn’t care about who was at the door, I just wanted them to enter so I could learn what they have for me. Whoever it was, they had some nerve to bother me at such an early hour because I wasn’t used to people knocking on me at such an hour.
“Greetings, your Majesty!” a girlish voice greeted me, I turned to see a maid standing six feet away from me, with her head bowed to the floor.
“Yes?” I groaned, turning my back on her to fix the buttons of my black shirt, rolling up the sleeves to my arms afterwards.
“Alpha has sent me here to fetch your Majesty for breakfast.” her voice was low and quiet, but it was still clear that I heard what she was saying without missing out on a word.
Alpha Randale? What happened to have my meal served in this room?
“Alpha said, it would be an honour for the family to have breakfast with your Majesty.” the maid mumbled, as if she could read my mind.
I opened my mouth, preparing to decline the offer of being at the same table with the werewolves in the name of having breakfast. But then again, the thought of my Queen came to my mind like a flash, thinking back to the previous night and how she was crying into my chest.
“Will my Queen be there?” I asked, turning to face the maid. She stood there, her expression inscrutable, and I couldn’t tell what she was thinking.
“Ahh, yes… Yes, your Majesty,” she stammered, her gaze dropping to the floor. She seemed nervous, as though she was afraid of saying the wrong thing. “Everyone is in the dining room, waiting for Your Majesty.” she continued her voice barely a whisper.
“Okay.” I gulped, feeling nervous all of a sudden. A part of me was excited to meet my Queen to know how she was fairing, and there was a part of me that was nervous to meet her, after seeing the other side of her the previous night.
“Lead the way to the dining room,” I ordered, my tone leaving no room for argument. The maid hastily gave a curt nod and scurried to the door, holding it open for me.
We walked down the corridor, my feet echoing on the stone floor, until we reached a large wooden door. The maid opened the door, stepping aside to let me pass. “We’re here, your Majesty,” she announced, her voice hushed, as though she was letting the people in the dining know of my arrival
With a deep breath, I stepped through the door and suddenly found myself face to face with the Alpha and his family. They all stood to their feet, their eyes trained on me as I approached. I did a quick survey before I could get to them.
There were six seats at the long dining table, and they were arranged in a specific order. The head of the table, the Alpha’s seat, was at the top, with his wife’s seat to his right and my Queen’s seat to his left. The first daughter’s seat was beside her mother. A seat was empty beside my Queen, and another empty seat was at the other top of the table. I was expected to sit at the other top seat, but I wanted to seat beside my Queen.
“Welcome, your Majesty,” they all greeted me in unison, their voices ringing through the room. I nodded my head in acknowledgement, trying to appear calm and collected while staring at my Queen.
I ignored the seat at the head of the table, instead, taking the seat beside my Queen. The room went quiet, the other families staring at me in shock. I had broken protocol by not taking the seat of honour, and I could tell they were surprised by my choice.
“Seat!” I ordered, crossing my legs under the table.
“Yes, your Majesty!” they retorted, taking back their seats.
Nova grumbled before plunging into the seat, she moved her seat gently and I paid a deaf ear to what she was trying to do.
“Ahh,” Randale cleared his throat, my ears darted to him, while my eyes were on the top seat, wondering why there were six seats when we were only five here.
“Since I do not know what Your Majesty would like to eat, I have the maids prepared a lot of…”
“No need to explain,” I said curtly, cutting him off before he could finish. I didn’t want to hear his excuses, I just wanted my meal, and perhaps have a little chat with my Queen.
“I’ll have a red wine and steak, then,” I said, my tone a little harsh.
“Ugh!” a voice scoffed in front of me, I moved my gaze away from the empty seat and darted my gaze to meet the voice, only to see the first daughter rolling her eyes with a disgusting look on her face.
Was that look meant for me? I narrowed my eyes, my brows knitting together in disbelief. A mere werewolf dared to look at me with such disdain?
I made to stand up from my seat when I heard the sound of a spoon hitting a glass cup.
“We’d be having steak with red wine, thank you!” Randale announced, I relaxed back into my seat.
For some reason, I didn’t want to cause a scene in the dining room, which was surprising. I darted my gaze to Nova, but she had her gaze fixed on her sister, which made me wonder what was going on in her mind.
A bunch of maids entered through a door I assumed led to the kitchen, carrying a tray with a covered dish and a glass of wine in their hands. The savoury smell of steak filled the air, making my stomach growl. But the aroma seemed to repel Nova, who wrinkled her nose in distaste.
I tried not to laugh at her obvious disgust, but I couldn’t help but crack a smile. It seemed she had her preferences when it came to food because who wouldn’t like steak?
I cleared my throat and moved my face a little closer to her. “It seemed like you don’t like steak,” I whispered into her ear.
She hissed and banged her fist on the table, startling everyone in the dining.
“I would love to have a big size of that steak!” she yelled, frightening the maids who jumped back in fright.
It seemed like this was the first time she had ever snapped at the maids, as everyone’s eyes were fixed on her in shock. I was the only one who seemed unfazed I couldn’t help but find the situation a bit humorous.
“I’m sorry, Princess,” the maid mumbled, her voice barely audible. “But we must serve the King first.”
“She’s the Queen now, not just a Princess!” I corrected the maid, my tone stern. “And who said you can’t serve the Queen before me?” I questioned with my brows knitted in anger.
The maids quickly bowed their heads, the fear of committing an unforgivable crime was clearly shown on their faces. They were no doubt feeling the weight of their offence.
“We are very sorry, your Majesty.” they cried out, their holds on the tray shook, making the wine threatening to spill from the cups.
“Go on and serve my Queen. Give her the biggest size of the steak.” I smiled, resting back into the seat, staring at Nova who seemed to be wanting to flee from the dining room.
“Eat well, so you’d have the strength to show me around the pack.” I flashed her a toothy smile, moving my hands to her head, patting her head like she was my little pet.
