Nova’s pov
As I was dozing off in the chair, my body gradually began to slump over. Slowly, my head drooped down and my eyes fluttered shut. Then, with a soft thump, I tumbled off the chair and onto the cold, hard marble floor. I gave a sleepy groan as my head made contact with the ground.
The impact woke me up, sleep left my eyes and I winched in pain.
“Aargh!” I whimpered, dragged my body off the floor and stood on my feet.
I moved my gaze to the chair and I wondered why I was sleeping there in the first place when I should be having a peaceful sleep on the bed.
I yawned and rubbed my eyes with the back of my palm, my stomach made an annoying grumble and I held my stomach through the clothing. Just then, reality struck me; I slept off on the chair after the grumpy guy brought me to my room. I slept without having dinner.
“That stupid dumbhead!” I rolled my eyes and dragged my feet towards the mirror.
Checking myself in the mirror, it seemed like I just came out of a horror movie. My hair was scattered everywhere on my face, there were bags underneath my eyes and my eyes were closing on their own.
I let out a tired groan and dragged my feet towards the bed to have a good nap. I snuck under the duvet and was about to drag it up my head when my gaze moved to the wall, and to the wall clock.
The time reads ‘6:45’ meaning, it was a new day.
“Oh, my goddess!” I jumped out of bed when realisation dawned on me.
“Shayna is still at the infirmary!” I gasped in shock, my heart sank into my stomach.
I fucking left my dying maid, alone at the infirmary for hours! Cinder must have left her when I didn’t show up, right?
I took out a pair of flip-flops and slid my feet into it, running towards the exit.
I grabbed the doorknob and twisted it open, stepping out to see two guards by the door.
Why are they still here? Didn’t he ask them to keep me inside for the night, why are they still here?
“Hey,” I strengthen my dress as the guards stared back at me, “can you move? I need to step outside for a moment.” I cleared my throat when the guards stared at me in bewilderment.
“Sorry, the Lycan King said not to let you step foot outside.” they turned their gazes away from me after saying that.
“Huh!” I scoffed, not believing he could be serious when he was saying it. “I need to see my maid.”
“Tell us what you want, your Highness! We shall have other maids to attend to you,” they replied, not sparing me a glance.
I sighed sadly, how will I get to see Shayna now that I was grounded?
“I want my breakfast to be ready in the next ten minutes, tell that to the maids.” I grabbed the doorknob and stormed inside, fuming angrily as I headed for the bathroom to have a bath.
After spending over fifteen minutes in the bathroom, I walked back to my room, with a towel tied around my chest.
“Someone was here!” a wave of unfamiliar scents mixed with scents of foods flooded my nostrils.
I moved my gaze around the room, searching for whoever owned the scent. I couldn’t catch a glimpse of a soul, other than a tray of food on the table.
“Huh?” I moved towards the window, where the table was placed. I pulled out a chair and sat down.
As I slowly pulled the royal breakfast tray to myself, I opened the lids of the covered plates to see a bowl of fresh berries glistened like jewels, each berry plump and juicy. Besides it was a bowl of fruit salads which sat pretty like a work of art, each fruit is chosen for its perfect ripeness and colour. There, the steaming pot of fragrant coffee sat beside freshly baked bread with a variety of Jams and spread.
Staring at the richly set breakfast, I felt full even though I haven’t put any of the food in my stomach.
I grabbed a slice of bread from the plate and applied jams on it.
After spending about ten minutes, eating my richly served breakfast, I got up and walked over to the closet to dress up for the morning.
I picked out a pair of black jeans and a wine shirt. I laid down the dress on the bed and walked over to the dresser.
After drying my hair with the hand dryer, applied a body lotion and went to put on my dress.
“Call the maids in to clear the table,” I yelled out to the guards at the door before plunging into the bed.
The maid must have been standing outside the door all this while, as soon as I asked the guard to get her, the door crept open and she walked in.
“Greetings, your Royal Highness!” she bowed before heading for the tray of unfinished food.
“Greetings to you too.” I yawned and rolled out of bed, remembering the books I saw in my closet the other day.
I opened the door of the closet but couldn’t find the box. “I remember seeing it here.” I groaned and ransacked through the closet but couldn’t find it.
Then it dawned on me that I saw the box in the former room, and my stuff hasn’t been moved to the King’s building.
I groaned and walked back to bed. The maid finally packed up the tray and held it as her life depended on it.
“I shall take my leave.” she bowed and I nodded my head. She hasn’t made it to the door when I called out to her, she paused and turned around to face me.
“Yes, your Highness?!”
“Have you seen Cinder today? She works in the royal kitchen.” I asked, staring at her as she seemed to be thinking about who Cinder was.
“I’m afraid I haven’t seen her anywhere in the royal kitchen today,” she mumbled, I nodded and she gave a slight bow before walking out of the door.
I tossed and turned on the bed, thinking of what to do to get out of the room but nothing seemed to come to my mind.
I was about to give up on trying when I heard a familiar voice, arguing with the guards at the door.
Hearing that voice, I gasped and jumped out of bed, running to get the door.
“How dare you tell me that I can’t see her Highness?” the voice howled, I grabbed the doorknob and flung the door open.
“Lady Everest?” I beamed, staring at the daring lady in front of me.
“Your Highness! Are you okay?” she asked, staring into my eyes with concern in her eyes.
I did not care if she was here to go against Prescott just to get him mad, or if she came because she was truly worried about me. I did not want to know the reason why she was here, but I was grateful she came.
“Please I need your help…”
“I heard what happened to your maid. C’mon, let’s get you out of here.” she winked at me, I moved away from the door and walked passed the guard.
“Thank you, lady Everest.” I blurted out, walking side by side with her out of the King’s building.
“I’m not doing this for you!” she smirked and I nodded in agreement.
I know she didn’t do it for me, but why was she there?
“Why are you here? Why did you come to get me out?” I couldn’t help but ask, Lady Everest smirked and stretched out her palms.
“Taking you somewhere.” she grinned darkly, I gulped down nervously, silently praying I haven’t got myself in trouble by leaving my room without the King’s permission.
