Nova’s pov
I paced back and forth in the royal infirmary, I rushed up to the closed door and peeked through the keyhole to see the royal doctor, attending to Shayna whose eyes were shut tight on the sick bed.
“Please calm down your Highness, she’ll be fine.” Cinder walked up to me, her eyes were crimson red.
She had been with me since we brought got here, she refused to go back even though we’d spent hours at the infirmary, waiting for the doctor to tell us the chance of Shayna’s survival.
“Can you wait here for me?” I wiped my tears with the back of my palm.
Cinder stared at me, unable to comprehend where I was going or who I was going to meet.
“Where are you going, your Highness?” she asked, her eyebrows rising while staring at me in anticipation.
“I need to see someone real quick, please stay here until I return.” I rushed out of the infirmary, heading to see the person who sent my maid unconscious.
I marched towards the residents building. All the maids I walked passed bowed to me, but I was too angry that I wasn’t able to reply to any of their greetings.
“Where is she?” I growled out to a guard, pointing out to the room that she reside in.
“She stepped out just now, your Highness.” the guard replied, his head bowed slightly as he blurted out those words to me.
“Any idea where she went?” I asked, I couldn’t believe she would be so cruel to do that to an innocent girl.
“To the garden, she left to take an evening stroll in the garden.” the guard replied, confusion written on his face.
“Thank you!” I turned around and left the building.
I was moving in a circle, I didn’t know where the garden was located and I was too angry to ask anyone for direction.
My breathing was heavy, I sniffed, fighting back the tears that were threatening to fall.
“As I’ve thought, it’s you, your Highness!” a cheerful voice beamed beside me.
I turned to see Rezso beaming with a smile. Tears flowed freely from my eyes. How can everyone be smiling when an innocent girl was fighting for her life in the infirmary?
“Lead the way to the garden!” I barked at him, Rezso seemed startled by my actions but he didn’t say anything.
“Sure, your Highness.” he gulped nervously and I wiped my tears with the back of my palm.
“Please, this way.” Rezso turned back to the direction he was coming from and I trailed quietly behind him.
After Cinder told me about her seeing Shayna being dragged to the field, I rushed to the field to meet no one there, only the lifeless body of my maid could be found there.
With the help of a guard, I was able to take her to the royal clinic for treatment.
It was confirmed by the doctor that she was no longer breathing by the time we take her to the doctor. I couldn’t believe that Shayna would be dead, JUST. LIKE THAT.
After much persuading, the doctor checked her again, only to feel her pulse and he began to work on her.
Cinder came to me minutes later to tell me that a lady who they knew to be the Lycan King’s best friend was the one who was responsible for it.
Cinder told me that she heard from the other maids that the lady, Ulrica, took Shayna to the field and beat her till she couldn’t stand on her own because she was a low-life werewolf.
“We are here.” Rezso blurted out, I smirked to myself when I spotted the lady, giggling to herself in the garden.
“Enjoying yourself, huh?” I groaned, my chest burnt in anger.
Seeing her smiling when someone was lying on the clinic bed because of her, made my inside boil in anger.
“You worthless bitch!” I yelled and speed up to her, before she could process what was happening, I jumped on her and pushed her to the floor.
She leapt to her feet, I didn’t let her regain her strength before I lunged at her, I used my strength to push her off her feet.
She landed roughly on the ground and I jumped on her, I grabbed her neck and strangled her on the floor while she struggled to break free from me.
“Yo… Your high… Highness?!” she knitted her brows, staring at me with confusion written on her face.
“How dare you do that to her? How dare you bully my sister?” I howled at her, I tugged at her hair and yanked it.
“Aargh!” she cried out, trying to retrieve her hair from my hands.
I sent a blow to her gullet and she let out raspy cries.
“How dare you do that to an innocent girl, you this cheap and nasty pig?!” I grabbed her hair and smacked her head to the ground.
“Your… Highness?!” Rezso gasped, he rushed up to us and tried to grab my hand but I slapped his hands off of me.
The lady tried to use her strength but she seemed too weak for a Lycan. I grabbed her arms and pressed my knees on them.
She let out a yelp. I raised my hand, and the tips of my fingers started to feel warm as if they were being pricked by tiny needles. Suddenly, with a sickening crunch, my nails started to stretch and grow into sharp claws.
I whacked my claws into the skin of her neck and she let out a gravelly cry.
“What is going on here?” a shrill voice howled, marching angrily at us.
I felt a pair of strong hands wrapped around my arms and pulled me up from the lady who was coughing out blood.
“Your Majesty!” Rezso’s voice shook as he greeted the King.
“Ulrica, are you okay?” Prescott walked up to the lady and helped her to sit on the floor. She crouched down on one knee and cupped her cheeks in his palms.
I struggled with the person who help my arms, I stared at the unfamiliar face and groaned. His nails were piercing into my skin.
“Can you stand up?” Prescott asked her, she groaned and nodded.
I scoffed at her, was she trying to act as the victim here, huh?
Prescott helped her up and Rezso rushed to her side.
“Have you lost your mind?” Prescott howled at me, he snatched my arm from the guy and pushed me to the floor.
“No,” I chuckled, trying to stand up from the floor. “I didn’t lose my mind, you’re the one who has lost his mind!” I spat to his face, making his jaw drop in shock.
“What did you just say?” he barked, charging towards me. I stood there, waiting for him to do his worst.
“I said, YOU. ARE. THE. ONE. WHO. LOST. HIS. MIND.” I roared, tears streamed down my cheeks and I didn’t bother to wipe them.
“Where were you when she was bullying an innocent girl? Where the hell were you when she has beaten a girl to unconscious? Is she because she was a maid? Did you choose to feign ignorance because she was a werewolf?” Prescott stopped on his track, he couldn’t take the last step closer to me.
“Does our lives mean nothing to you, Lycans? Because we are werewolves doesn’t give y’all the right to treat us as garbage. We also feel pain and it hurts a lot.” my lips began to tremble slightly.
I took the last step closer, closing the little distance between us.
“So? What gives you the right to fight a defenceless person?” Prescott glared hard at me, he didn’t seem to care about what I had said, all that mattered to him was to know why I did that to his sweetheart.
“I did it because she deserves It. How dare she bullied my girl?!” I yelled at him, Prescott scoffed and stared down at me.
“Who are you to judge? Who the hell do you think you are to judge her?” he gripped my shoulders and smirked down at me.
“Because I am the Queen! I am the Queen of this nation. If you can do as you wish because you’re the King. I will also do as I wish because I am the Queen! Just as the king can exercise his authority, I too have the power to make decisions for the good of my people and you’re not to question me because I never questioned your authority!” I yelled, my voice echoing through the garden, startling all of them.
