Chapter 89
Iris
A sob burst out of my throat after I walked some meters away from the pack house and I crumbled onto the ground, my body trembling as I held back the urge to scream my lungs out in pain.
“Please help me, moon goddess. Help me to help him,” I cried bitterly.
Truly I needed her help because the ache that gnawed in my chest on seeing Gradel’s weak and helpless state grew with more intensity, prompting me to act faster.
I had to find Silas no matter what it would take me and it had to be now.
Still covered with my veil, I sauntered across the garden and sneaked out through the small gate that was meant for an emergency exit. Strangely, no guard was posted there but I didn’t care because it was to my advantage.
I’d never been to his place before as there was no need to visit him and I doubted if he’d still be there. Elda had succeeded in turning everyone away from Gradel and if Silas had any sense, he wouldn’t be in this pack.
And that posed a problem because I didn’t know where to find him.
Walking through the bush path, a cold eerie breeze blew over my veil and the hairs on my skin rose. I’d barely taken another step when a hand gripped my arm and covered my mouth, dragging me deeper into the woods.
Screaming for help was impossible since my captor had temporarily made me dumb. After some minutes of fighting and kicking, my masked captor finally let me go and I hit him hard with a punch, blocking my face with my forearms in anticipation of retaliation.
“Who are you and why did you drag me here?” I fumed, panting hard.
I got no response, instead, he dragged the black mask off his face and I palmed my mouth in surprise.
“Hegar?” Relief washed over me.
Beads of sweat had already gathered on his forehead and he wiped it away. “I’m sorry for how I manhandled you but I couldn’t think of anything else,” He apologized softly.
“No, it’s fine,” I waved at him. “I’m glad that you found a way to reach me after everything that’s happened. Where did you go to by the way? Are you aware that the Prince is in danger and almost every member of the council has betrayed him?”
He nodded and sighed. “I do, that’s why I ran away. From what I heard, Elda is searching for me and if he finds me I’d be left with two options. You understand, right?”
“Yes. He made me do the same thing as well. I’m his Luna now,” I admitted and his eyes widened.
“You must be joking, right?” He sounded baffled.
I shook my head and bit my lips, evading his gaze. “I had to save Gradel somehow, but I guess I made matters worse because his heart is broken and it’s all because of me. He’s yet to understand that I aim to save him but my hands are tied because I can’t tell him the truth yet,” I confessed, my voice breaking.
“Are you trying to say that you accepted to be his Luna to undermine his efforts?”
He finally caught on.
“Yup,” I popped the ‘p’ and suddenly remembered Hazel’s case. “Also, your mate was drugged by one of Elda’s men,” I informed him.
He snarled, his nose flared in anger. I had to take a step backward as he clenched his fists tightly until his knuckles turned white. Even his claws were threatening to pop out from his fingers.
I held his arms, shaking him vigorously. “Whatever is in your mind right now, don’t do it. She needs you to be alive and not dead.” I reminded him.
He drew in a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment and when he opened them, the anger had receded.
“You’re right, but I need to meet her even if it’s for a while. She’ll surely get better if we get intimate,”
Intimacy! I snapped my fingers at the word and then an idea flashed in my head. How could have I forgotten how powerful being intimate with a mate was?
“I’ll do something about it, but do you want me to tell her that I’ve found you?” I questioned and he lowered his head.
“No, not yet. Let’s surprise her. For now, we need to give all our attention to finding Silas. He’s the only one that can help us with the antidote,”
The trees made a swooshing sound and the dried leaves on the floor rustled as if someone had stepped on them. As if someone was eavesdropping on us.
“I need to leave now, Hegar. Send me a note if anything comes up. I’ll find you,” I said, hurriedly and turned away.
Getting caught by Elda or any of his minions was the last thing I’d allow to happen.

I headed straight for his room the moment my legs touched the courtyard. Presently, I’d tasked myself with knowing his plans before he executed them so that I’d be a step ahead.
That was the only way I could defeat him.
Though my body was screaming for rest since I’d busied myself with searching for Silas. So far, it felt like my suspicion had been confirmed and he had truly disappeared from the town. But I wouldn’t give up. I’d find him somehow.
Loud groans greeted me as soon as I got to Elda’s door. It wasn’t out of pain but pleasure, and delight, and immediately, I realized what was going on.
I didn’t care about what he did, but people were watching and I had to act jealous so I barged in without bothering to notify him and they both froze in the act.
He gently pulled out from her and pulled up his slacks, buckling his belt. The lady looked away, tossing the duvet over her body to cover herself.
I snorted and pinned a furious gaze on him. “Is this what you do when I’m out?”
He scratched his chin and splayed his hands. “You have been testing my patience and I’m kinda frustrated, sexually. But it wasn’t my intention for you to find out this way,” He replied with a lackadaisical tone.
“Oh really? So you plan to keep up with this then?”
He kept quiet while a plan formed in my mind. He could keep fucking around like a rabbit in heat while I dig his grave but I had to keep up the facade so I spun around and left without uttering another word while he ran after me.
